Current Score: Resistance 1 - Imperials 2

CURRENT LEADER: Iconeum

Welcome, Agents, to the distant future.

Corporations have subverted democracy and now rule the world under an oligarchic iron fist. To them, we are all pawns in their geopolitical games.

"The distant future."

Luckily, there is hope. We are all members of The Resistance, a highly trained espionage team to take down The Empire.

Our next 5 missions will determine the fate of the world as we know it.

But there are spies in our midst...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

So what is The Resistance?
Adapted for MafiaScum by Mathdino

Spoiler: THE BASICS
The Resistance is inspired by Mafia, with the elimination mechanic removed, and win conditions replaced by a points system. The game is essentially centered around townhunting over scumhunting.

Depending on the number of players, there will be 2 or 3 Empire spies working together to sabotage The Resistance. Think of spies as scum, and Resistance as town.

If The Resistance successfully completes 3 "Missions" out of 5, The Resistance wins. If the spies successfully sabotage 3 Missions, The Empire wins.

tl;dr
: It's a Mafia game but you're voting for town.

Spoiler: GAMEPLAY (Different from board game)
Setup:
Pre-game, the mod will PM the players telling them if they are Resistance (town) or Spies (scum). See below for the number of spies for particular game sizes.
The Spies may not privately communicate.
(this is important)

Day phase:
The game is played in 5 rounds (day phases). During each round, the players will vote on a team of players that they want to go on the "Mission" (the mission is just flavour). Each round requires a different number of players for the Mission, ranging from 2 to 5, depending on the number of players.

Voting:
Votes will be cast and counted like in a mafia game. On a day requiring a 2-person team, for example, one might VOTE: Mathdino & northsidegal. When a simple majority is reached on a particular team, the thread will be locked and that day's team will "go on the Mission".

Night:
During this Mission (night phase), each player must PM the mod whether they want to pass the Mission, or sabotage it. Unless otherwise indicated, a mission requires every player on its team to "pass" in order to win.

If the Mission succeeds, the Resistance gain a point. If the Mission is sabotaged, the Spies gain a point. The next round then begins.

In the morning, the number of players who chose to sabotage is publicised.

Miscellaneous:
If the deadline (1 week) is reached on a round without reaching a majority, the Spies automatically gain a point, the Mission is skipped, and the next round begins.

All standard rules of mafia apply. While modding, I will be using my standard ruleset.

setupThere are 6 of you, 2 are Imperial Spies, each mission below needs just 1 sabotaging spy for the Imperials to gain a point.

Mission 1 will need 2 operatives.
Mission 2 will need 3 operatives.
Mission 3 will need 4 operatives.
Mission 4 will need 3 operatives.
Mission 5 will need 4 operatives.

Suggestions & NotesRemember that every player on a Mission must PM the mod for the "night phase" to end.

I will try to keep a consistent twice a day schedule for vote counts. Please always let me know if I make a mistake, or if I can improve things for your understanding and I will try to keep people happy

SITE RULES

ALL Site Rules apply.
This is just like any game of mafia. You can reasonably assume Site Rules supercede My Rules. Specific Site Rules that are common issues are restated below.
Spoiler:
1.
No discussion of ongoing games.
This will be taken very seriously. Do not discuss this game outside of the game thread or other games outside of their game threads unless your role PM specifically states that you can. If you aren't sure whether something is okay to say, read the link or consult me.
2.
Do not use secret code, hidden text, or other such cryptography in the game thread
, as this constitutes discussion outside the game thread.
3.
Do not bring in outside influences into the game
such as bets, promises, trust tells, etc.
4.
Do not quote any communications with or from me, the moderator
. You may paraphrase. If you're not sure whether it's okay, ask me.
5.
Don't be a jerk.
Use common sense. Abusive behavior, game-irrelevant harassment, slurs, and threats will not be tolerated. You should play to win, but you should also be considerate to the other humans playing this game. Breaking this rule in particular can make things very unfun. I do not want to see that happen.

GAME-SPECIFIC RULES

1.
I am the mod.
I reserve the right to change or add rules, and will inform the players of this. I reserve the right to make the final decision in problematic circumstances and rules infractions, potentially including force replacements, or modkills with or without warning.
2.
I am a fair mod.
PM me ASAP if you see a mod error or a rules break. I will do my best to fix things. No matter what the flavor implies, I guarantee fairness and non-bastardness.
3.
Do not pretend to break the rules.
I will treat this as actually breaking a rule.
4.
If your account is not listed, do not post in the game thread.
If you post from the wrong account, I expect you to correct this ASAP.
5.
Do not edit your posts
. You will be force-replaced for this. I can fix broken tags.

ACTIVITY EXPECTATIONS

6.
This game is a commitment.
Please treat it as such. If you need to go V/LA, just let us know
in bold
and mark it in your profile. Otherwise, prods will be issued every 2-day period without game-relevant posting. If you don't respond or I keep having to prod you, I will replace you.
7.
Play the game.
"Prod-dodging" every 47.9 hours does not constitute treating this game as a commitment. I expect game-relevant posts and reasonable activity, and will give warnings and prods to players that do not appear to be playing the game in good faith.
8.
Do not spam or clutter the thread.
Please keep low-quality game-irrelevant posting to a minimum. If a large number of posts are irrelevant, it impacts me, other players, and potential replacements.
I am willing to give out warnings and replacements for excessive spam/clutter
. Multiposting is okay. Multiposting without substance to rack up your post count or claim a page top is not okay.

"DAY" AND "NIGHT" RULES

9.
The "Day phase" will last 7 real life days.
Extensions of up to 2 days for replacements.
10.
Voting
: Use the vote tags (VOTE: Accept) or the bold tags (
Vote: Veto
). Don't test my willingness to count your vote.
11.
Majority vote
. Missions will be sent upon strict majority. You may continue posting in a "Twilight" phase until I lock the thread.
12.
No Mission
: If there is no majority by the deadline, the "night phase" will be skipped, and the next "day phase" will start.
13.
The Mission will last until every Mission team member has PM'd me
. If any members do not PM me in 48 hours, I will find a replacement.
14.
You may change your mind if you resend your night action before everyone has PM'd me.

15.
We will now be using the Leadership Mechanic. In the order already set (Before roles are even set) in the OP, each person will have an opportunity to suggest an appropriately sized team, which the rest of the thread can discuss and either Veto or Allow the proposed team. This will continue in this order, picking up where it was left off each day start.

MISCELLANEOUS

16.
OOC text will be my mod color
.
I may edit posts or post responses in the game thread like this to differentiate myself.
Do not use it!
17.
IF YOU NEED ME TO SEE SOMETHING, BOLD IT.
Ideally use
@Mod
or
@brassherald
. You may ask for vote counts, replacement, V/LA, prods on other players, BBCode fixes, and rules clarifications at any point within reason. I guarantee some kind of response.
18.
This is a game, remember to have fun!
Remember that as The Resistance is a social/debate game, it's okay to attack people's play, but it's never okay to attack the person. It's just a game. Play nice.

You are the first leader, you can choose a team of two people to suggest as the team to send on the first mission, the rest of the players can either Accept the team and send it or Veto the team and not send them, 4 votes to send are needed to send a team.

I'll clarify anything you guys need, I may not have fully explained the leadership mechanic as well as I should have.

Nah. I strongly suggest Pine take me with him. I'm much more reliable.

I consider to veto against any team this phase that does not include me.

Right, so neither of you. Got it.

No no, you misread.

@Mod, does the 'Leader' chip go down according the the numbers in the playerlist? And how many veto's before scum win a point?

by BuJaber
I'm not the mod but I assume yes and 6 (full cycle)

Aight Pine good plan.
Sabotaged mission 1 is better for town anyway.

Leader will go according to the list, in order from 1 to 6. A Veto shows will just not send the suggested team on three or more vetos. One of the players sent needs to sabotage any mission to get a point from imperial spies.

i'm getting it right, though? If a veto occurs, the leader position is passed down on the list. But after a certain number of veto's, there is a point for scum?

Just wanna get it straight, it's important for strategy and stuff

I thought I knew how his game works from reading the rules several times in the past, but now I'm just confused.
I've got that we want to send town (resistance) on the missions, but do we all vote to pick the team, or does a different leader choose them each time? The first and second post seem to disagree.

Posted: Wed May 09, 2018 8:47 pm
by BuJaber
Both.
We discuss and offer suggestions.
The leader chooses.
We vote on his choice.
If we get 4 or more "yes" votes it passes. 3 or more fails it doesn't go and the next leader chooses the team.
If no mission is approved 6 times in a row the spies get an automatic point.

3 or more "no" votes.

Do not mix up pass/fail of missions with yes/no of pre mission voting.

I propose using the Heal/Hurt tags for unofficial voting. Heal for a positive vote, hurt for someone you'd veto.

I will not guarantee that I'll abide by the group's decision if I disagree with it, but unless there is a big problem with it, I'll go with the group.

I would probably vote yes for any 2 this round. But I prefer HEAL: Pine & Buj

by BuJaber
Actually yeah I'll definitely vote yes for any team
Even a fail round 1 is good for town if we just play the next mission(s) correctly. In fact I suspect with 6 players since there are only 2 spies and 4 resistance a first round fail would be really good because it narrows the possibilities significantly.
