I've never done a combination mod/dead thread before where all the secrets of the setup are laid bare to dead folks -- I usually go for something along the lines of "you can discuss spoilers in the dead thread but I will reveal nothing" -- but I played a game recently with that sort of dead thread and had a good time, so let's try this out.
this thread will be made public when the game ends. if there's something you would prefer someone not read, don't post it here.

The Director
"and the three of you look like Little Nemos. Merle, I can see three quarters to four fifths of your entire butt. you look like Jeffy from Family Circus."
"this is my sleepy sack. I get night terrors. somebody unzip me!"
"the three of you are going to need to suit up into your business regalia, because I have a job for you that I need you on right now."

Payment:
while most of the Bureau of Balance's members do what they do because they truly believe in the Bureau's mission, you understand that a proper incentive is crucial to ensuring a job well done. three times during the game, you can target another player at night. during the next day, if that player would receive gold as a result of participating in a lynch or a Fantasy Gachapon item, that player will instead receive twice that much gold or two Fantasy Gachapon items respectively.

Steven the Goldfish
"I'm going to name the goldfish Steven."
"Steven? okay. Steven the goldfish. Travis, I thought you would be psyched about this."
"I'm pretty psyched, Griffin, but it is very much like the feeling when a kid is begging for a dog, and the parents bring home like a goldfish."

A literal goldfish:

Magnus Burnsides
"it's called the Oculus, and it is able to turn anything you create with illusion magic into something real, into something tangible."
"but that sounds great!"
"it really sounds awesome."
"it's really great, unless you use it to conjure an illusory army, or some sort of illusory dragon--"
"still sounds great. very great."
"or an illusory black hole that then destroys the world."
"not seeing a downside."
"but we could've used that for so much good!"
"you cannot use the Grand Relics for good. their power overwhelms and inevitably leads only to evil."
"Griffin, in case you're wondering, this is the scene at which we start to plant the seed of, like, oh, 20 episodes from now when Magnus splinters off and is like 'we can use these for good.' this is the beginning of it."
"oh, I see, I see, I see."
"yeah, this is the endgame, we're setting the scene for the endgame."
"we could have used it for good! the power, as long as it was wielded responsibly!"
"you better keep that shit in check. cause that sort of thinking will consume you, and tear you apart from your friends, and lead you to create a rival Bureau faction."
"you're probably right; this will probably never come up again."
alignment:
you are aligned with the town.
win condition:
you win when only members of your faction are left alive or nothing can prevent this.
Magnus rushes in:
you don't wait to kick off a plan of attack, and as long as you don't hesitate, it usually works sometimes. the first vote you cast each day will instead count as two votes. note that this will increase the number of votes in the game, which might change the number of votes required to achieve a lynch.
lynch vote:
you can vote for another player to be lynched in the game thread. once a majority of votes cast are for the same person, that player will die and the day will end.

I'm writing this post before there's a player list, but once I have one of those, this will be the role distribution:
Original Roll String: 1d13
1 13-Sided Dice: (5) = 5
Original Roll String: 1d12
1 12-Sided Dice: (4) = 4
Original Roll String: 1d11
1 11-Sided Dice: (3) = 3
Original Roll String: 1d10
1 10-Sided Dice: (7) = 7
Original Roll String: 1d9
1 9-Sided Dice: (2) = 2
Original Roll String: 1d8
1 8-Sided Dice: (2) = 2
Original Roll String: 1d7
1 7-Sided Dice: (3) = 3
Original Roll String: 1d6
1 6-Sided Dice: (3) = 3
Original Roll String: 1d5
1 5-Sided Dice: (1) = 1
Original Roll String: 1d4
1 4-Sided Dice: (1) = 1
Original Roll String: 1d3
1 3-Sided Dice: (1) = 1
Original Roll String: 1d2
1 2-Sided Dice: (1) = 1
(the first role goes to the player corresponding to the first die roll, then that player is removed from the list, so there's 12 players left; repeat until there's just one player left who gets the last role on the list.)
"halfway there! oh boy!"
"now, which way do I turn it?"
"to the right. and I want you to take both your hands and make 'L's with them. the one that looks like an L is the left hand."
"okay, got it."
"and so turn it the opposite direction to that."
"is that clockwise or counterclockwise?"
"it is clockwise."
"I don't understand clocks; I'm a digital man, myself."
"why did you ask the question between the two if you didn't--"
"I'm still trying to figure it out, so I use learning opportunities like this! okay, I'll put my hands on the crank, and you just turn my hands. how does that sound?"

you always greet everyone you meet with a warm, welcoming salutation, and, uh, I wouldn't say it makes people like you per se, but they at least don't immediately kill you. one time during the game, you may write
hello, sirs!
in the game thread, and as long as there are at least 5 players alive when you do this, you will be unable to be lynched for the rest of the day.
lynch vote:
you can vote for another player to be lynched in the game thread. once a majority of votes cast are for the same person, that player will die and the day will end.
accrue gold:
if you are one of the players voting for the player who is lynched, you will receive 80 gold. you will receive an additional 80 gold if that player is part of the mafia faction.
Fantasy Gachapon vote:
you can vote for another player to receive an item from the Fantasy Gachapon in the game thread. once the day ends, the player with the most votes (or one of the players with the most votes chosen at random if two or more players are tied) will receive a random item from the Fantasy Gachapon.
spend gold:
each night, you may spend gold you have accrued on items available from the Fantasy Costco. these are outlined in the third post of the game thread.

"does anybody want a... kiss?"
"yes."

"oh, I see, I see, I see."
"yeah, this is the endgame, we're setting the scene for the endgame."
"we could have used it for good! the power, as long as it was wielded responsibly!"

Magnus rushes in:
you don't wait to kick off a plan of attack, and as long as you don't hesitate, it usually works sometimes. the first vote you cast each day will instead count as two votes. note that this will increase the number of votes in the game, which might change the number of votes required to achieve a lynch.

Irrelephant11, SirCakez, Nosferatu, skitter30, RadiantCowbells, Varsoon, and Gammagooey have confirmed. Creature and Porkens have picked theirs up but haven't confirmed yet, which I just can't believe. (I actually can believe it)
xRECKONERx, Porkens, and Shoshin have confirmed. also I was mistaken earlier and thought Creature hadn't confirmed but guess what Creature did confirm. neither of the remaining two have picked up their PMs yet though
the current version of their plan is that he kills someone at the very start of day 2 and then probably gets lynched, so he wants to use up his gold so that if there's another role that steals gold the effect of that is minimized. which, y'know, isn't the worst plan, but the nightkill getting blocked complicates things.......
oh I just caught the crumb, that's cute! I hope that gets caught simply because it'd be delightful for someone to organically pick up on it
in the original version of this setup, the mafia was pretty weak, and the Jess the Beheader role was
extremely
situational to the point where it might not ever make sense to use it -- making her a day vigilante evolved out of trying to increase the mafia's power. the most expensive Fantasy Costco items are basically game-winning for town if they can get to them, and generally the Fantasy Gachapon abilities will represent at least a small swing in the town's favor. a mafia day vigilante is for sure a powerful role in just about any setup, and an argument could be made that it's a bad role to include regardless, but imo it doesn't make the setup scum-sided.
yeah, the mafia PT has pretty much treating a Gammagooey lynch as a sure thing that they shouldn't even try to evade ever since they decided on that daykill a couple hours ago.
northsidegal kills SirCakez.
Porkens zone of truths Shoshin.
Shoshin purchases a wand of switcheroo and uses it on skitter30.
Gamma Emerald vends fried unicorn dick to northsidegal.
Porkens attempted to buy more stuff than he has money (wanted to get stones of farspeech and an unlimited pasta pass) for but I didn't see it before deadline so I'm giving him until the morning to verify which purchase he wants to make.
SirCakez dies.
Shoshin and skitter30 are switched.
northsidegal receives unicorn dick from Gamma Emerald.
skitter30 receives "today, you can't change your vote after you make your first vote of the day."
the lylo discussion actually came up in setup design! the only role that doesn't work in lylo is Angus (which actually just triggers at a specific number of players regardless of how many mafia are alive). I'm not opposed to roles that don't function during lylo but I also don't like explicitly confirming when lylo is -- in this game I actually confirm in the rules that it's only 2 factions, but I like leaving those sorts of things at least a little ambiguous when possible. obviously 3 player lylo is almost always easy to work out as 2 town/1 mafia (and in the case of 2 factions has to be), but, like, if there are 7 players alive and no scum flips yet, I don't want the players to be 100% confident that it's lylo.
Shoshin used the gold to switcheroo with skitter30 last night. Porkens and NSG haven't explicitly acknowledged this in the mafia thread yet, but they should implicitly both know that this is the case since the vote lock got redirected to skitter30.
btw, this is the current gold in case anyone was curious:
also on the one hand I realize that having 50% of the "this week's Adventure Zone is brought to you" bits basically be Sydnee McElroy bits is leaning a little hard on people who aren't even on the podcast, but on the other hand, listen: Sydnee is terrific and is the best at what she does. all the best bits on
Gamma Emerald is purchasing an Extreme Teen Bible and using it on Shoshin (redirect to skitter30)
Gamma Emerald is unicorn dick vending Shoshin (redirect to skitter30)
skitter30 moving the death cop ability over to Shoshin, which actually works, because it's a ~non-targeting ability~ and therefore is unaffected by the switcheroo. I mostly did that to avoid having a role that just targets people for no clear reason in the setup because there are a lot of tracker abilities floating around this game but hey it works out well here
Gamma Emerald is purchasing an Extreme Teen Bible and using it on Shoshin (redirect to skitter30)

Shoshin is tracking Gamma Emerald. (assuming no changes, that should return "Gamma Emerald targeted skitter30.")
Nosferatu is paymenting Porkens.
...the mafia still haven't submitted any night actions. I gave them a reminder in their PT once I noticed, but that gives them about 20 minutes to notice and submit a kill.
I didn't bother starting day 5 before going to bed last night because I was very tired and it is difficult to unlock a thread and say "nothing happened" when you are tired
northsidegal actually responded and officially made it a no kill. imo intentionally putting the town in mylo isn't the
so if player A and player B are switcheroo'd, and player B and player C are switcheroo'd, anything that would target player A will instead target player C, and anything that would target player B will target both player A and player C. so if Porkens did the exact thing you're describing, schadd, he would be the only one to die.
Nosferatu payments Gamma Emerald
NSG kills Shoshin (redirects to skitter30)
Porkens neighborizes NSG and skitter30 (redirects to Shoshin)
Porkens tracks NSG

there's now a Porkens/NSG/Shoshin neighborhood
Porkens receives "NSG targeted skitter30"
Porkens receives "you now have a 1-shot cop ability."
skitter30 dies.
Nosferatu receives "Gamma Emerald has given you some fried unicorn dick."
Gamma Emerald will receive double rewards on day 6.
presented without context, here's something I just wrote in the mafia PT:
In post 185, xyzzy wrote:listen buddy if I knew the opposite word of "incriminate" do you think I'd be here moderating mafia games on the internet? no I'd be using that skill to become incredibly wealthy and famous

...the mafia still haven't submitted any night actions. I gave them a reminder in their PT once I noticed, but that gives them about 20 minutes to notice and submit a kill.
this isn't actually relevant to the game at the moment, but one interesting thing worth noting is that the scum win condition is "when only members of your faction are left alive or nothing can prevent this," so if Shoshin got lynched and then Gamma Emerald got a vigilante kill as his second Gachapon item, he could potentially kill a mafia member and also prevent another mafia kill from happening. Nosferatu moving his FG vote to himself is definitely a mistake here unless he's decided that Gamma Emerald is scum.
