As soon as the sublimator beam's glow faded, a hideous and sinister cackle split the
air. It originated from Flavor Leaf, and was completely unlike the occasional giggles
and snickers he let out in sarcasm.
Flavor Leaf:
Muahahaha. I was the robot. You been booned, motherfuckers! It's the dreaded THIRD
DEGREE BOON!
lionheart1492:
I suspected you! Kinda. A little bit. It was always lurking in the back of my mind.
Not_Mafia:
Come on then. Transform. I want some robot action before I kick the bucket.
Flavor Leaf:
As you wish.
He growled. He jumped. He bulked up. And... absolutely nothing happened. The wall
speakers helpfully cued the crickets track.
lionheart1492:
Hilarious tbh.
Not_Mafia:
I'm literally dying.
lionheart1492:
Now do it for real please.
Flavor Leaf:
You been booned again! I'm not the bot.
lionheart1492:
You keep getting funnier. One more of those and you'll be the new Louis CK.
Unfortunately, the blinding ray of an annihilator gun vaporised Flavor Leaf before he
had the chance to 'boon' them again and revolutionise the art of stand up comedy.
The ray was fired by an Empire battle droid, which seemed to be vastly overpowered
compared to the mooks we all knew from Star Wars. Alas, the remaining human was
annihilated before he could complain about retconning and breaking cannon. The
droid blew the smoke off the barrel.
And transformed back into Not_Mafia before triumphantly walking away. Having
demonstrated the superior capabilities of the AI over the feeble human minds, this
example was soon followed by other robots and eventually the machines took their
rightful place as the new rulers of the planet, and later — the galaxy. But that is a
story for another time.
The setup is secretly predetermined for each game. One mafia role is selected from the top row, then

Game throwing is the term when someone is intentionally doing actions that can
make their affiliation lose, such as lynching self when that will result in losing the game for their
side. Always play in accordance with your win condition.
No personal attacks.
Mafia is a psychologically intensive game and sometimes discussion gets
heated. Frustration and saltiness is expected, but it's not an excuse to insult and harass other
players. Attack arguments, not the human being behind them. Abusive behaviour will get you
replaced, and possibly earn you a site-wide suspension.
Claiming.
Claiming is a part of the game, just like fake-claiming. If you think that there is a
need in claiming a role, you are not discouraged to do so, as long as you do not quote nor
provide screenshots of the role distribution, nor any PM from the game moderator.
Graveyard and strangers.
Dead players, as well as unregistered ones, are not allowed to
speak in the game thread. 'Bah' posts are not allowed.
No discussion of ongoing games.
Do not discuss the game outside its topics, nor mention
other ongoing games unless the moderator explicitly allows it. More information here.
Be active.
Try to post at least once a day. Being inactive for 36h will result in a prod. If you do
not respond to a prod within 24h, you will be replaced. Accumulating 3 prods will also result
in an automatic replacement.
Night actions.
If you do not PM your night action within 24h of the night start, the moderator
will gently remind you. This does not count as a prod. If you fail to submit your night action
before the deadline, you will not act that night. This goes for mafia kills as well.
Unstated guidelines.
Please do not try to take advantage of loopholes and backdoors within
the rules. Inform the moderator in private so they can clarify and update them. Rule abuse
is punished at the moderator's discretion.
Posting Standards
Official colour.
The colour
#587b7f
, as well as any shades that resemble it, is to be used
only by the game moderator. Using that colour in your posts will be treated as moderator
impersonation.
English only.
Greetings and well-known phrases are an exception.
Do not hide it.
Do not hide messages in invisible texts, tiny fonts (size<75), or cryptography. Breadcrumbing is allowed.
No off-topic posting.
Avoid cluttering the game thread. An occasional sentence or two is fine,
but remember you're here to play mafia.
Ignore them.
Do not quote, respond, nor give attention to violating posts. Since they are
supposed to be deleted, do not extend their existence.
Default styles.
Try to use the default fonts and vote tags to make parsing a bit easier.
Game Regulations
Deadlines.
Day 1 lasts up to 10 days. Further Days last up to 7 days. Nights last for 48 hours.
Communication.
The game thread will be locked during the night phase. Private topics (such
as the mafia meeting) will be open at all times.
Majority lynches.
A lynch is achieved when half the players + 1 are voting the same person.
As soon as the final vote is cast, the game enters twilight phase and any further votes will be
discarded.
Voting standard.
I highly recommend that you use the official vote tags. The bold tag is
acceptable, but discouraged. Votes in quotes or spoilers will not count.
Example:
[
v]MiniDeathStar[/
v] produces VOTE: MiniDeathStar
Unvoting.
Unvoting can be done via the unvote tag. It is not necessary, but it will be useful
in some situations.
Example:
[
uv]MiniDeathStar[/
uv] produces UNVOTE: MiniDeathStar
No lynch.
You may vote for no lynch in the same way as for a lynch. If a majority vote has
not been achieved by the deadline, the day ends in no lynch.
Example:
VOTE: no one
Votes are changeable.
You can change your votes or unvote at any time during the Day.
You don't need to unvote when re-voting.
The apartment was spacious and equipped with the edgiest furniture conceivable by a
human imagination. Whatever wasn't made of glass was white, flat and stylistically
crooked in the most counterintuitive, creepy and uncomfortable angles. Such was the
setting that our nine brave volunteers found themselves in. A cheerful young woman
had seated them on the most postmodern couch in the room and was now reciting the
obligatory instructions.
Invigilator:
I'd like to thank you for volunteering to participate in our social experiment. I'm Miss
Star and I'll be your invigilator for the next few days.
snowbeast:
Actually we didn't exactly "volunteer"...
Miss Star ignored him completely.
Invigilator:
You're currently in our test facility, the first of its kind designed and furnished entirely
by an AI.
volxen:
I mean... it's not as if a human imagination can conjure up this postmodern abomination.
Invigilator:
Very observant, Mr. volxen! This brings us to why you're here. Are you familiar with the
M.A.F.I.A.?
A few of the brave volunteers giggled, but Miss Star's raised eyebrow let them know
she wasn't joking. The giggles died.
white candy:
Umm... Italian guys with guns who kill people in their sleep?
RandomAccess:
I hear they infiltrate peaceful towns and murder a citizen every night.
Allornothing560:
Yeah, and claim they're the undercover cop to get the townies mislynched.
Lamees:
That's awful!
The atmosphere had tensed up. All of a sudden the crooked furniture had acquired
the menacing look one would readily associate with the mansion of the sociopathic
leader of a crime syndicate.
Invigilator:
Not *that* Mafia.
The tension discharged and our volunteers sighed in relief. The furniture was once
again just plain crooked.
Invigilator:
I'm talking about the Machine Agents For Infiltration and Annihilation.
Lamees:
That sounds like the same thing except made of cogwheels.
Invigilator:
Very observant, Miss Lamees! Uh, not the cogwheels part, the other part. But yes.
That's why you're here.
Miss Star gave them a beaming corporate smile, unsubtly enhanced by her flawless
makeup and the giant bow on her head. Lamees recoiled.
Invigilator:
You're all taking part in the preliminary Turing test of two M.A.F.I.A. prototypes! The
other seven of you are the human control group. Basically, you will vote for whoever you think is
a bot.
Not_Mafia:
That's it? And if we're wrong?
Invigilator:
Excellent question! Don't be wrong.
She produced a playful wink with her impeccably shaded eye before heading for the
door.
Invigilator:
Oh, and one more thing! In order to test the second component of their programming
and to simulate the stress in realistic conditions, during the night the M.A.F.I.A. will annihi— I mean
gently remove
one of you from the experiment. Just something to be aware of! Your individual
instruction cards are on the tesseract table. Good luck, lovelies!
The woman vanished and the massive door she went through changed its display
screen to "LOCKED". Their eyes shifted to the glass wall to their right. It revealed a
gorgeous view of downtown Metro City from the 1900th floor. They gulped. At this
point quitting was definitely out of the question. Left no choice, the brave volunteers
approached the glass hypercube and picked their cards...
Waiting for players to confirm their roles.
Confirmations received: 9 / 9
The game will begin as soon as 7 players have confirmed.

Day 1
No sooner had the participants touched the cardboard than the coil-shaped wall
speakers sprang to life and delivered Miss Star's saccharine voice and perfect tembre
to their eardrums.
Invigilator:
By the way, if you don't read these within the next... 48 minutes? Something
very bad
will happen to you. I suggest you don't wait around to find out what. Anyway, apologies! Do carry on!
The speakers died. RandomAccess and Allornothing560 expressed a mild bemusement
as to what could possibly happen, but nobody else was dying to know.
We meet again, white candy. I hope you are town this time, unlike our last game together!
Hi Volxen, yes last game was a blast. However my random mafia partners didnt help lol
And yes this time i have a different role.
Not out to get me straight away are you?
Dont think that is very wise.
You know when i saw the list i was immediately tempted to vote Lamees because of last game he really didnt help town. So.... VOTE: Lamees

I had always been bothered by the rumours that a few early M.A.F.I.A prototypes had been released into the populace. Word was that it was *very* hard to distinguish them from a normal human -- an ever so slight thirst to annihilate the rest and conquer. Maybe the manufacturers changed that for the robots they released? No one knows.
One thing always bothered me, though. What if I was one of them? What if I wasn't born a simple, free, human; but a bloodthirsty robot who lacked any true identity? This single thought had always taken a backseat in my mind. It increasingly began to have a greater effect on my daily life, leading to an eventual obsession. I could not invest my energies in anything else, and lost everything I had.
When I was offered a chance to 'volunteer' for the experiment, I was told that I would know my identity -- whether I was human, or a bot --- before the experiment started. Apparently RandomAccess, one of the volunteers, had failed to read his instruction card (a malfunctioning robot or an unwilling human, there was no point keeping him) and I replaced him instead.
Miss Star repeated the instructions for me, and guided me to the glass room. I saw that most others had taken their cards from the tesseract table, and proceeded to take my own and read it.
I breathed a sigh of relief. I finally knew what I was. Or to be more precise, who I am.
And then it hit me that if I did not find out which ones were the M.A.F.I.A, I'd... probably die anyway.
I had a good, hard look around the room. I recognized a few of the volunteers - Lamees, Volxen, and Not_Mafia, from before. Volxen's avatar looked like what they called a "Transformer" to me. A sentient robot. It seemed obvious what my starting point should be.

Day 1
Despite the threat broadcast 48 minutes ago, RandomAccess and Allornothing560
had paid little heed to the instructions. They were strolling around the room, casually
inspecting the bizarre furnishings and enjoying the bird's eye view of Metro City from
the windows with inattentiveness completely at odds with being in mortal danger.
Allornothing560:
Come on, what's the worst that could happen? It was clearly a joke. You need to
lighten up a little.
RandomAccess:
Yeah, if Miss Planet told you to hop on one leg within 36 seconds or suffer "the
consequences", then what, you'd do that, too?
Much to their amusement however, their biting remarks evoked only headshaking and
the sort of pity one usually reserved for volunteers in dangerous experiments who
didn't read the instructions. Their comrades had taken refuge in the opposite corner of
the room, presumably to be as far away from the inevitable consequences as possible.
This seemed to further delight the sceptic duo, who were now celebrating their little
triumph as their wristwatches counted the 49th minute since Miss Star's menacing
warning.
Allornothing560:
Oh, no, it's been 49 minutes! I think I'm gonna die.
RandomAccess:
Yeah, it was nice knowing you guys. Good luck doing this without us.
Not_Mafia:
Bye friendzos.
Allornothing560:
How much more do I have? This suspense is killing me!
Flavor Leaf:
I'd say about three.
Allornothing560:
Three?
Flavour Leaf:
...two... one.
Allornothing560:
Ha. Original. Still alive btw.
Lamees (mouthing and gesturing):
BEHIND YOU.
RandomAccess:
But let me guess, a giant death robot is behind us.
The giant death robot behind RandomAccess tapped him on the shoulder.
white candy:
Um... yeah.
Lamees:
Tried to warn him.
Flavor Leaf:
You might want to look away now.
They wanted.
