RULES:

*inspired by northsidegal

General:

Spoiler:
-Adhere to all site rules.
-Always play to win.
-Remember that this is a game - heated discussion is allowed, but personal attacks are not. Comment on play, not player.
-Pretending to break the rules will be treated similarly as actually breaking the rules.
-Do not quote any private communication regarding this game—this includes your role PM, other mod communication, posts from private threads, etc. Paraphrasing is acceptable. If you're unsure, ask me first.
-If you need to get my attention, please include "@mod" in your post or PM me.
-
This (#FFFF00) is my color.
If you use it I will cry.
-Do not use encryption, hidden text or excessively small text in your posts.
-Do not use any form of provable randomness. This includes dice tags, screenshots of random.org, etc. Saying you flipped a coin is okay, providing some sort of proof that you did isn’t.
-Each day phase will last for 12 days, with night phases lasting 48 hours.
-Do not post in the game thread or any private topics following your death, with the exception of the dead thread.
-If you have the ability to edit your posts, do not do so.
-My decisions are final. If I feel you are violating any of the rules, I will take the appropriate action.
-As a general principle, whenever moderator action is required I will attempt to make the decision that has the least impact on the natural flow of gameplay. For example, force replacing instead of modkilling whenever possible.
-Have fun! but not too much fun.

Voting Rules:

Spoiler:
-All votes and unvotes must be in bold or in VOTE: tags, with vote tags being preferable.
-Votes in spoilers will not be counted.
-Abbreviations and nicknames are acceptable, as long as I can understand them.
-Unvotes are not necessary before revoting.
-Lynches will occur when a majority (>50%) is reached. If no majority is reached before deadline, the day will end in a no-lynch
-Voting to end the day in a no-lynch requires only 50% of players rather than >50%.
-Once a hammer has occurred, the game is in "twilight". Discussion may continue until I lock the thread but no further votes or unvotes will be counted.

Specific Setup Rules:

-Night actions this game will follow Natural Action Resolution.
-If you do not send me an action for the night, I will assume that you are not taking one.
-The Mafia private thread will be predominantly open as to balance the game.
-At least one player has received the following role:
Spoiler: Vanilla Townie
Welcome to
game
! You are a
Vanilla Townie
.

You have no night actions.

You win when all the Mafia have been eliminated.

Confirm by replying to this PM with a summary of your role.

Wiki says they're on the normal white list for roles, but it'd be a great troll to name the game that and then not include any

Honestly, I would guess the title has nothing to do with the setup.

Interesting choice of game theme.

VOTE: Gamma Emerald

Having an SK in a mini normal is not within guidelines though, so that's definitely out.

Why engage in OMGUS this early? What are your thoughts on how someone should go about achieving their town win condition?

Mewtaph, what draws you to that vote in particular as noteworthy? (given it's post #6 and I assume not a serious case of OMGUS)

Do you think a vote or post along those lines is inherently less useful even in RVS?

I think that, even for RVS standards, it's not really a productive line of thought to follow, even in jest or RVS.

I want to hear how they think town should approach achieving their win condition because I think it'll help me discern whether that vote was one of complexity (an actual reflexive action against votes on them) or on a less serious note. Their answer will offer me an idea of what to expect from them in future posts.

I mean it's very clearly "on a less serious note," though I am on board with it not being productive. Additionally, how will having an idea of what to expect from him in future posts be helpful? It isn't hard for scum to fake townie consistency when you hand them an opportunity to construct their town persona right at the start of the game.

I don't quite see why
this
is a productive line of thought to follow.

Personally, I think that pursuing early thought processes is generally helpful.

I don't see how answering a question of that nature would really enable the mafia to build up a sense of townie consistency. While the mafia may choose to adopt a specific persona by selling "consistency" as a town tell (subtly, overtly, or waiting for someone else to do it for them), I think as the game progresses, so does their lack of it as they are forced more and more into fake scumhunting for players they know don't exist.

This line of thought is somewhat open to manipulation by mafia players, but I think it's important to inquire and receive expectations of other players' play.

Having an idea, even if brief, of how someone thinks, can ultimately make it much easier to see inconsistencies in one's thought process, or help explain why another player is thinking differently from what you are even if you are of the same alignment - and isn't that what the mafia is afraid of?

Do you disagree with that line of thought? Why?

Okay, I'm following. I suppose I was assuming perfect play when I stated how easily this enables mafia to sell their townie-ness, which is an error on my part considering what the game is. I appreciate the pursuing of early thought processes to try and progress the game, but I can't say I'm sold on this particular process.

The question is just kinda empty? Maybe I'll see it when we get an answer but there's only so many ways to answer "how do you win as town" and they don't reveal much.
I want to hear how they think town should approach achieving their win condition because I think it'll help me discern whether that vote was one of complexity (an actual reflexive action against votes on them) or on a less serious note.
I agree with the rest of your reasoning but I still think this ^^ was stupid.

Also, can you guys explain your Mewtaph votes? Despite my reservations about his methods he's willing to push the game forward and is one of the few players to post literally anything of value so far. I'm feeling town

You give scum all the answers, you risk letting them better hide amongst us. I'm certainly not giving anyone an explanation of my thought process, mainly because I couldn't succinctly describe it.
