1) All sitewide rules apply.
2) You may not discuss this game anywhere outside the game thread unless specifically allowed by your role PM. In such case, a PT will be provided and you may not discuss your game outside the game thread and/or the PT.
3) Be civil and treat other players with respect-attack the case, not the person. Mafia is a heated game, but insults, personal attacks, and bullying are not allowed. I determine what constitutes a violation. It's not up for debate.
4)
Blue is my color for this game. Do not use it.
5) Quoting or pretending to quote your role PM, PTs, or private communications with the mod is strictly forbidden. Loose paraphrasing is permitted. If you're not sure, ask me via PM BEFORE you post it int he game.
6) Violation of the rules will result in action as I see fit up to and including modkill.
7) If you notice errors on my part (such as in VCs) please let me know in thread by using
@Mod
8) For other issues, please PM me.
9) If you have outside information that influences your knowledge of the game, are aware of someone else having outside information, or have any reason to believe that the game has been compromised, it is your responsibility to inform me via PM immediately.
10) I reserve the right to change the rules as necessary.
Voting/Lynching
1) For your vote or unvote to be counted,
you must use vote tags or bold tags and put the vote at the beginning of a line
, like this: VOTE: picky mod
Vote: picky mod
This is because I manually do VCs and it's easier for me to just scan along the left edge.
2) Votes for misspellings or acronyms of players' names (such as VOTE: Playrname or VOTE: PN) are valid as long as the player being voted for is clear. You are not required to unvote before changing your vote. However, votes that are behind spoiler tags, in quote tags, in small or invisible text, or otherwise concealed are invalid.
3) You may vote for a No Lynch.
4) A lynch will occur when 50%+1 (rounded down) of the votes are cast for the same player; a No Lynch will occur when 50% of the votes are cast for that option. When this has happened, the game enters twilight and any subsequent votes and unvotes will not be counted.
5) You may continue talking after a lynch or deadline has elapsed until the mod posts to end the day. After that, you may not post even if the mod forgets to lock the thread.
6) If day phase ends without a lynch or no lynch being reached,
the person with the most votes is lynched (plurality lynching)
. In a tie, the person who first reached that number of votes is lynched.
7) This game uses a special mechanic, stranding, instead of lynching. When I say lynch or no lynch, that really means strand or no strand. See the setup-specific rules below for more information.
Activity and Day/Night Phases
1) Day phases will be 5 calendar days long.
2) Night phases will be approximately 48 hours long. They may be longer or shorter in order to fit my schedule.
3) If a replacement is needed during a night phase, I will extend the night deadline until some time after a replacement is found, regardless of whether that slot has a night action.
4) In order for night actions to be accepted, they must be PM'd to me or posted in bold in PTs before the deadline is up. If a player does not select one, he or she will default to "no action." The last action submitted before the posted deadline will have effect. Any one mafia may submit the actions for all the mafia. Masons must submit actions individually.
5) Players may be prodded after thirty-six hours without posting. Players may request prods on other players. All prods will be announced in thread. A post must have content to reset the prod timer - "prodge" type posts don't count. The prod timer carries over from one day to the next, i.e. night does not reset the prod timer.
6) Players who do not respond to a prod within twenty-four hours or need to be prodded too many times will be replaced at the discretion of the mod.
7) Because this is a blitz game, VLAs will only be accepted for emergencies. Otherwise, you're required to meet the posting requirements above.
8) Once you're dead, you may no longer post in thread. No 'bah' posts.
Setup-specific Rules
The full setup follows. Feel free to ask any questions via PM or in the game thread.
Spoiler: Full Setup
The setup is open and includes the following:
8 citizens:
2 masons:
1 Mafia Strongman
1 Mafia Goon/Backup Strongman 1
1 Mafia Goon/Backup Strongman 2
Mafia and masons can talk privately at all times, including pregame.
Voting is as usual with phase ending when time runs out or a majority vote is reached. If no majority is reached, the player with the highest number of votes is stranded. In case of a tie, the player who was first to that vote count is stranded. The player voted is not lynched, he is Stranded:
If all players are dead at the end of the night, the mafia wins.
Enjoy the game!

In post 441, Carl Tuckerson wrote:@all: What are the rules on posting known information from an ongoing game? Hectic has flipped in one that hasn't finished yet and I don't know the extent to which I can cite that game to make a point here. Sorry if this is already too much.
Don't do it. The fact that he has flipped changes nothing.
There was a report of outside communications involving living players. I'm locking thread until I can sort this out. That probably won't be until tomorrow as I'm going to bed soon.
In the meantime, maybe everyone could read the fucking rules - both for this game and the site rules.
I have a PM out to the listmod. Game will be closed until I get a response.
Good news! Additional information was received. Outside communication occurred, but it was accidental and caused no harm to the game. Game will now resume as normal.
They were the toughest gang in all the Purge. They knew that the only way any of them died was caused from within - they were betrayed by their own, and there was probably still one left.
Menalque climbed up on a pile of the dead and shouted, "It's Icon! Kill him in the face! Terminate his existence with a literally humungous level of prejudice!"
Icon tried to run, but they chased him down.
Icon was caught...but he had one last, desperate move to make. He reached into his coat pocket, pulled out his wallet, flashed it open and waved it. "It's not me. I'm a card-carrying mason. It's Gandalf! Kill the traitor!" He shoved the wallet back in his coat before anyone could get a good look. ROugh hands reached out and grabbed Gandalf, holding him in place.
Egduf, Hectic and Tet turned their guns on Gandalf and fired. "That should do it." But, Menalque went and searched the dying body. Gandalf had a genuine mason card on him. Menalque held it up for all to see. Egduf, Hectic and Tet realized they had killed the wrong man. "Meh, what the fuck. It's Purge night anyway," they said, shrugging their shoulders.
Oversoul nodded his head and said, "Yeah, what the fuck. It's Purge night," and bashed in Tet's brains for no apparent reason.
Iconeum's bluff had bought a little time, but it wasn't enough. TiphaineDeath raised his gun. "Wait. He's mine," Menalque said. "Just wound him." TD shot Icon in the knee, taking him to the ground beside Gandalf. Gandalf had almost bled out, but with his last breath he said, "You ain't no fucking Mason," and shot Iconeum in the nuts - the traditional punishment for fakeclaiming mason.
Menalque stood above Icon, gloating. "I've been waiting for this a long time, you scumfuck." He aimed at Icon's face and fired...but not before Icon got off a shot as well. Menalque fell, dying beside Icon and Gandalf, and for some reason Tet.
The sirens sounded again. Purge night was over.
Iconeum - Mafia Strongman
;
Gandalf - Town Mason; Menalque - Town Citizen; and Tet - Town Citizen
;
were purged Night 2.
TiphaineDeath, Egduf, Hectic, and Oversoul - all own Citizens
- survived and won The Purge 2, along with the rest of the town!
The New Founding Fathers thank you for participating in The Purge, and hope you can make it to The Purge 3!

I mentioned that outside communication was reported. Here's what happened.
Menalque contacted me, saying he had received a game-related PM from Gandalf. I immediately closed the thread to determine what happened. It took some back and forth, but eventually I determined that:
Gandalf is new on the site and not familiar with the forum design. He hit the "PM" button on post 1084 by Menalque. That created a PM to Menalque, quoting Menalque's own post. Gandalf then got confused and sent it. So, Menalque received the following PM from Gandalf:
To me this appeared to be an honest mistake that caused no damage to the game. However, when town makes a mistake I think it's only fair to consult with the mafia. So, I sent the above information to the scum team and asked if they were OK with resuming game as normal with no action taken. They quickly agreed to this.
Special thanks to the scum team for graciously accepting this as a mistake and letting game proceed.
Note that at that point, only Iconeum was left and the town win strategy applied. BUT, that strategy depended on the existence of at least one mason to sit out - otherwise everyone dies and scum win. So, scum could have lobbied for Gandalf (the mason) as the offender to be modkilled. They were aware of this, but didn't push it. You'll see in the mafia thread that Iconeum specifically said he didn't want to try to use this issue to get a cheap win.
I don't follow the Scummies, but if there's one for ethical play, these guys should be nominated for it.

- My apologies to the scum team, as it turned out that with 1 scum and at least 1 mason left, the setup is broken. I believe we have fixes in the dead thread, but other sugestions are welcome, as I'd like to run this game again in thee future.
- There was other sloppy play aside from the PM issue. Everyone should review the site rules. Newcomers to the site especially, but it wouldn't hurt if the veterans did a refresher as well. https://forum.mafiascum.net/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=6470
And of course always read the specific rules for the game you're in.
Let's work through the idea of last surviving scum gains 1X passive BP.
If 1 scum and 1 mason and the circle kill idea is used, all that's left is the mason (or the person the scum was supposed to target) and the scum. Scum wins. So, that break is fixed by adding the BP.
If 2 masons, then 2 town plus the scum are alive and scum loses.
Question: is this necessarily a flaw? Point being that town gets down to a single scum with both their masons still alive, don't they deserve to win?
If 2 scum, pairs are used, 1 mason is odd man out and barricades, scum aren't paired together: the scum SM dies, but scum goon is saved by BP. 1 town is left alive. Scum win.
If 2 scum, pairs are used, 2 masons barricade, scum aren't paired together: 2 town and a scum are together, scum lose.
So, no, the addition of BP by itself doesn't solve it.
Maybe the solution is to just remove the masons? The idea was that the masons gave town the chance to coordinate a 2-shot kill and potnetially take out a barricaded scum, but they never seem to get used for that anyway. If they provide a breaking strategy, maybe we just get rid of them.
If you want to pre-in, please send me a PM with "Purge 3 Pre-in" as the subject.
That will be easiest way for me to find it later.
My next game will be a role madness game based on the Arnold Schwarzenegger Conan movies. If anyone wants to pre-in, please send a PM with Conan pre-in as the subject. That game won't have 5 kills in a night but will still be pretty wild. Roles will be based on the movie characters as much as possible.
Pre-game players will draft an NFL team. Each week two players will win 1X powers based on team performance (highest-scoring teams who also won their game). Winning players will choose from a list of powers. Each can only be used once in the game. NFL knowledge might be a little helpful but really isn't necessary.
Due to the NFL mechanic, phases will be strict 5-day days with plurality lynching and 2-day nights. Prods will be given after 24 hours. Please don't sign up if your shcedule doesn't accomodate this pace.
