Because it's a depressing major and not suitable for a young college student who thinks they're actually going to fix the world.

The original dream was criminology degree -> law school -> reform the school to prison pipeline, de-criminilization of some drugs/sex work, proper social support for young men and women entering their 'life of crime,' getting rid of private prisons, improving inmate living conditions and training them in proper life skills like a civilized nation would.

Oooh boy. I want to say it was the middle of my sophomore year when I was getting burnt out from regular life-stress that I realized there was no way I had enough fortitude for what would be an exhausting and soul-crushing career path. (And poor. I thought being a lawyer meant I'd make lots of money)

You didn't ask what major I switched to, but I'll say it makes sense given the above.
