Morning Tweet really has a sick sense of humor. I was planning to joke around and try and help solve this game, but then imagine my surprise when she actually gives me Odd Day Jester...

First game here in a while. Im interested to see how site meta has changed, what the players are like now, how I hold up as a player, etc

Please do me a favor and outline your typical playstyle with these questions:

1) Intuitive, or analytical?
2) Independent, or Collaborative?
3) Aggressive, or Passive?

I will respond to my own questions once I get some responses to the survey. As this is my first post I would also like to say good luck to you all! Hopefully this will be a good game!

1) Very analytical. I will find whatever I can to incriminate and frame weak looking townies. My signature dish contains nothing but low hanging fruit, and I am exceptionally skilled mislunching.
2) Independent. I will not hesitate to bus my weak partners to oblivion. If you're too weak to make the cut, you're out of the team, and that's final.
3) Incredibly aggressive. I normally have 10 to 15 rage fulled 1v1s per game, anything less than that and I haven't done my job.

nah its not SRs at this point in time yet. Some of the entrances have made me felt like scum was trying real hard to look town by seeming like a bold townie. In general I think that's a pretty good way to approach a game as scum since first impressions always last even if only subconsciously. So what I would say about these are that they are suspicions that may influence my decisions later in the game but they are by no means reads yet

When did this become a thing? I presume it came out as a reaction to the giant wave a few years back of everyone doing nothing but meta reads (which was also a bit daft) but I'd like to at least discuss some of my issues with the so-called meta issue that I see a lot.

First off, the 'people can change their meta' argument. To that I say, yes, and? People (scum) can game *any and every tell in the book* that's kind of the point of being good scum, doing whatever you can to appear town. Insomuch as I have a scum meta, it is to have it look as much like my town meta as possible, so, yeah, naturally players can and will and should do whatever they can to match metas, just as they should do it to affect any possible tell around. So the idea that scum will attempt to manipulate a tell applies equally across all tells, yeah? Unless the tell is actually objective (and the only ones I've personally found like that tend to be mechanic and voting based - so...y'know, stuff like setup spec and VCA that people *also* whine about. So, first off, this is a dumb complaint when someone uses meta as a tell.

"Meta is garbage!" This is another I hear a lot. I presume people say this because they've seen meta be wrong. Okay, whoop-de-doo, I'm pretty sure I've seen every tell under the sun be wrong. The real question is simply how well supported/researched is the meta being used. Is it from one game? Then maybe it's garbage. Is it from a five year history and 10+ games? Then I'd be awfully willing to buy it (and generally have never experienced people doing a drastic meta shift in some random game to break their meta and own face). So, once again, this makes meta...wait for it...basically like every tell out there.

"I change my meta every game, so I can't be meta'ed" I would suggest this implies you're a bad player, unless your claim is all town game styles are equally effective (and if you think that I'd love to discuss your research and conclusions). I also...well, kinda don't believe this, and even if it is exactly true - then that's your meta, and theoretically tells could be drawn from it even then.

So, basically, stop random attacking meta for empty reasons. If you have an issue with a meta case, describe them. If you can't, then it's probably a perfectly valid case as far as the style the case-maker has chosen.

I think this is genuine, and I'm trying to figure out if scum!Redados would be as enraged in the same way.
To answer your question, Redados:

There'll most likely be more wagons, by virtue of there being more players, and more competing wagons. Newbie games are semi-open since they have the setup table, while this is a closed game, so there'll be a lot more talk of justifying people's role claims once that happens, and what fits with what. There's also just going to be more 1v1s and conflicts in general. The more people you put in the same room together, the likelier you'll get people who clash.

In all seriousness, my urge to lim shelly is still there, but I worry it comes close to lim on policy more than anything else. Her play is so ridiculously aggressive that it feels like it could easily mislead the town. Not to mention, her SR'ing of anyone who looks at her funny is distracting, even though my gut tells me she's town this game.

Can you articulate on why your gut is saying she's town? Acknowledging that aggressiveness and unpredictability for her is at best NAI, and at worst scum-indicative, why?

1) Mm, not necessarily. You probably tend towards one of them as town, unless you intentionally change the way you play as town every game. Your first scum game was your first on-site and had you a lot more reserved, and the recent one revealed your final form, so I'm chalking the increase in erraticness up to an increase in confidence.

2) You tunneled people hard, such as Gimli from that game, and wouldn't let go once you'd latched on. You haven't done that with Redados here, although it has only be 1 or 2 days and I should probably hold onto these thoughts a little bit longer before revealing them...next time.

Okay, I'll give you my quick rundown based on the top off my head:

1. Noraa - Gut says town.

2. Mundivore - I like his clown gimmick, which ironically makes him pretty clowny himself. Hasn't done a whole lot content-wise, but wanting to policy elim shelly while admitting his gut says she's town is slight +town for him, given his following reasons in 899 are okay.

3. bugspray - Probably town. Entered strongly, but want to see more.

4. JacksonVirgo - Liked him while he was here. Interactions with shelly especially.

5. duppin - Townish for admittance of voting me despite not scumreading, and then progression of moving vote elsewhere after looking through my ISO.

6. MiniMegabyte - Townish from META (everyone's favourite)

7. Tayl0r Swift replaces Grendel - Towny, I liked his thoughts for the most part.

8. Odd Day Jester - Obvscum. Kill it with fire.

9. shellyc - Gut screams scum. Meta implies scum.

10. Saudade - Lacks fire. Could be due to real life. Unsure.

This was addressed by me in 994 - I ISOed the slot I was most unsure about. I seem to have addressed all of her reasons and she doesn't have problems with the case, yet still implies she would wagon me if there were more support in 1065. I'm wondering if she's forcing herself to scumread me despite not having proper reasons, in order to go against the grain and look towny for it. Tinfoil, but I don't like it from her.

I really like Noraa's 1111, and agree shelly voting with 2 scumreads on a wagon of someone which she previously called town or unsure is sus.

Noraa's 1125: RQS (Random Questioning Stage) is actually slightly scum-indicative if you look at the data. 835 is NAI, since Grendel can be overwhelmed and genuine about it as both alignments.

As of page 47, I am pretty confident Noraa is town, probably enough to make her my strongest townread. Her paranoia and "viberead" around Tayl0r feel very genuine, and voting/scumhunting based on feelings is something most scum struggle to do naturally, they usually look for objective or defensible reasons.

The inter-wagon paranoia was a good sign I think, but a few comments on what was discussed:

Noraa is a bit over zealous to be talking about post flip associations, but I still agree with her Redados read. I don't feel like I have been pocketed at all, when I read her arguments I find myself agreeing because they are raising points I was already thinking, rather than seeing them as new arguments that I follow. For example 1196 and 1197 have a similar analysis of the big catch up. That we both reached these posts at more or less the same time makes me strongly feel that Noraa is on the same wavelength as me and so probably town. I definitely don't see Noraa as sheeping either, she has been a lot more vocal about redados.

Still no problem with Taylor.

Shellyc continues to do things I don't agree with. I'm not sure if I believe that is scummy anymore. She is very in the moment, post 1281 is the most illustrative here but 1240 works too. Speculating that the majority of scum are within the current most relevant players (Redados wagon + Redados) seems not very likely to come from scum, who would have a greater awareness of the rest of the game. It would also be a poorly motivated scum move - I can't see the benefit of constantly disrupting and drawing attention to a limited selection of players especially when shelly has already caught a lot of flack for this already.

I can't tell if you're addressing this at me, but I'll have a look at these points after I've finished catching up. I gotta ask though: How do you keep your leaves so green at all times? The seasons come and go but UNOwen stays green; what's your secret?

I like 1164 from Gyrados. You can kinda see his progressions evolve through the post. I gotta say though, I sincerely hope I'm not being pocketed because he finds my jokes funny. Also, about Redados's catchup wall there: I like the number of times he reaffirms he's still scumreading UNOwen throughout that post, it gives me the feeling he's constantly thinking about the read while he catches up, and is keeping us updated about it. Also, his thoughts on UNOwen early kinda mirrored mine in that he was being a little too selective in his posting, which is why I prompted him to talk to me about Noraa. Redados pushing this over someone like shelly who looks like a far more viable counterwagon I also like. I don't think Redados is scum.

I'm fine with Redados's answer regarding why he's less emotive this game btw. It's what I figured and at times I get this "this is really irritating but I'm going to stay cool" vibe from him when replying to scumreads line Noraa's and I find that kind of tone really town-indicative.

oh as for my own read on Saudade I said early on why I thought he was slightly suspicious earlier, generally it comes to me getting the impression that he was just trying to be heard and make sure he had a presence without actually attempting to game solve. My initial plan was to just give him some time and wait for him to do something. he and a couple of other players talked about him having good reads and I have to admit I thought it was a bit odd how he kept talking about his own good reads while also saying he had no real reads yet since it is early on in the game. Don't get me wrong it obviously makes sense for him to not have good reads yet and it is definitely not fair for me to call him out for that, but i think you will agree that it is harder to fake good reads as scum which was why I wanted to give him some more time to see if he would come with these so called "god reads", but then a little later norwee decided to vote on him which I did not expect, but I decided to join the wagon since I thought it would be interesting to see what would happen. Unfortunately he had to deal with some real life stuff which made the push rather lackluster in my opinion

For many years I've been trying to find the secret of making sleep obsolete, but you lot seem to already have that pinned down.

Redados saying Noraa is tunneling because of new player energy, but then making no hypothesis or conclusion on her alignment is sus, like in 1634.

Tayl0r's obsession with getting people to look at and ISO duppin is sus and feels exaggerated. She doesn't bring up any duppin posts and explains exactly which points she finds suspicious, she instead asks people to "look at" duppin over and over, which isn't particularly helpful for convincing people someone is scummy if she really believes that.
1700 - Not a fan of this either. This is too BIG PICTURE in terms of evaluating shelly and Noraa's playstyles. Yes, their playstyles may be NAI, but what about their content and reasons and you know, the stuff you're supposed to look at to determine who's scum in a game of mafia? Slotting 2 of the top posters as null reads because their playstyles are NAI is a particularly lazy read from Tayl0r.

duppin's responses to the push are towny, my only qualm being how he's somewhat apologetic/understanding of Tayl0r's reasons, I'd have liked if he ripped into her a little more. I think this is just his personality though.

1728 - Tayl0r's push and this post read as incredibly bad faithy. Her whole problem with duppin is lack of reasoning for scumreads. Duppin provides the reasoning and points out he's explained them before. Tayl0r responds with "getting a scumread from you is like pulling teeth." rather than acknowledging she was wrong.

1734 - Why in the world are you not voting for Tayl0r by this point, duppin?

1743 - Norwee is 17.293021% scum

Top of page 71 now, but I really scumread Tayl0r at this point. The way she approaches and talks with duppin reeks of bad faith, like she's set on tunneling someone and even when duppin raises a good point or evidence to refute what she's saying, she never fails to find a way to sidestep it. Not conceding ANY points in an argument is a scumtell, and I think this is scum!Tayl0r finding a nice cosy tunnel since that's not a bad strat for scum most of the time to look engaged and occupied, but it looks really forced here.

one of the reasons i thought duppin was scum was the way the wagons and votes were moving. but the recent vote movements make a lot more sense and suggest that duppin could be town. or scum is covering by hopping on and doing stuff a bit late. but i think its indicative that duppin is town.

I think Tayl0r's on L-2 right now. Along with my prior stated reasons, I'm not happy with the reasons for her stance change on duppin and the Norwee/Mundivire theory. Theorising Norwee/Mundivore are both scum because they voted for bad reasons and took opposite sides of the wagons sounds like a fun theory, but there's not much basis behind it otherwise, so it's too tinfoil for me to believe Tayl0r actually thinks that.
