That's not necessarily true. Anyway, while it might be

proper play to lim claimed 3rd parties, that's not always the case, and in most cases, it doesn't hurt to let them survive one or two more days to get a better idea. There's almost always other scum to hunt.

Despite what the wiki says, I think it makes a lot more sense to treat Survivor as an alignment and not a role. "Third party" isn't an alignment in the traditional sense in that it encompasses a broad range of alignments. I think the (Role) designation is more to disambiguate the page on the wiki from the game Survivor.
