Since the game thread is approaching 50 pages in ~5 days I thought I'd have a look at the stats for the previous runs of this game.

It's interesting. The scum team this go-round is really unhappy about not having daytalk. Even in 2018, when the game was last run, the lack of daytalk was never brought up during postgame discussion.

I think daytalk has become so ubiquitous that the idea of functioning as a team without it is near inconceivable now.

I remember how isolated I felt as scum in my first MS newbie game. As soon as the QT would open at night I'd pour all my pent-up observations and ideas into the QT and then wait...and wait...and wait for my partner to show up and give his thoughts.

That was more agonizing than not having daytalk, actually. I wanted to use the night phase to fullest advantage, and my IC-partner just didn't seem to care about the opportunity to strategize.

I think adding daytalk would require other changes to maintain the balance, and I'm not sure the whole premise of the game would survive that kind of tweaking.

It's something I want to explore in postgame.

There are many apologies and much wailing happening in my DMs atm.

Now that Day 1 has ended with Nacho's flip I can say that I was having massive, unpleasant flashbacks about Day 1 of the 2013 running of this game. Nacho and I (Sangres hydra's first game) had a strong (and correct) scumread of the pirate mollie/Andrius hydra off mollies play on page 1 and 2 of the game.

A few of the other town didn't believe our read was real or had other reasons for scumreading us, and we were put at E-1 for several hours. It was a fluke of timing (scum player who should have hammered us was asleep) that we survived to put out a reads list, and the reads list itself convinced enough town that we might not be scum. Town went on to elim the mollie/andrius hydra at the end of Day 1.

Anyway, this Day 1 felt like how that game's Day 1 could easily have gone.

I imagine Nacho also thought a lot about the previous game, and wondered why his play this time wasn't enough to turn the reads around.

bork and I were talking about this setup and how much people who have played it love it/hate it.

In 2013 we made an effort to get it into the approved Open setup list, but llamafluff thought it was too scumsided. 7-5 ratio and no PRs does make it look like some kind of mountainous nightmare.

If they haven't played it, I don't think people appreciate just how much info town gets from the wagon movements and the sacrifices. I feel like if anything the setup is slightly townsided.
