The tail is bent, I find it hard to think that's an architectural coincidence when it would look a lot more symmetrical and pretty if the path just went from the the east gate to its tail.

Tbh, the map seems to show that the kitchen and the black smiths are in the same room, they're just different doors.

The south rooms lead to a winding stair case that seems to be a dead end. Or immediately drops us into a dungeon, either or.
The north seems to allow us to enter the area on the second floor.

Might as well go to the food storage first. If we can/are forced to back track we can probably use whatever we get from the food storage in the kitchens. Then go to the blacksmiths before advancing.
If we can't back track we should probably just go the right way, which seems to be the food storage/stair room on the north side.

Probably. I tried to meta game based on player interest because I was worried it might die if we grinded. But then woop, there’s a tiger with 20ish HP maybe that wasn’t a good idea.

That was a joke. But D&D (from what limited experience I have with it) doesn't really encourage grinding. So I suspect the issue here is that we're not going about this dungeon correctly. It's possible that we're being punished for trying to go through the "wrong" way.
For example crawling on top of the lion or using magic to just fly up to its mouth near what is probably the end room. Skipping all the content that the DM intended sometimes does end up with a meteorite landing on your party.

It's also possible that this is a *little* like dark souls in that if we had gone invisible while climbing up we would've been fine and you can think of it as a ladder you only get to use if you've advanced enough (i.e., if you've failed once and made a new character to try again, since I don't think any of the characters have a rope and a means of invisibility combined) to avoid retracing. Maybe even both. But I very much doubt we're going to get a ring of +10 AC or something and trivialize the content.

What are the odds of running away, versus throwing food at it, continual light? straight up retreating seems risky if it's anything like the newer editions due to attacks of opportunity.
