general:

- Please adhere to the site rules.
- Do not discuss this game of mafia outside of this thread.
- Day phases will last 10 days (or until an execution is achieved).
- Night Phases will last 38 hours maximum. On any given night, if all players PM me that they are okay to speed up the night, it will end sooner.
- During night phase, no talking may be done in the thread.
- Do not quote PM's from the mod at all (real or fabricated).

This includes specific timestamps; please ask me if you're uncertain whether something breaks this rule.

Paraphrasing is acceptable.
- If you have any questions about your role, or the game, feel free to PM the mod.
- "Bah" posts are not allowed.

- i don't like players using the term "lynch" in my game, and i make an effort to provide a bunch of fun and stupid alternatives. i would appreciate seeing that effort returned

- No impossible/hard to read text, or cryptography. For example, I would prefer that no font size smaller than the one you're reading now be used.
- The mod may make mistakes - please point out any mistakes gently. Mistakes will be corrected where possible, but sometimes mistakes are made that cannot be reversed. These will stand as final to be commiserated over after the game.
- If you need to get the mod's attention, either PM me, or bold the text you wish to draw to my attention.
- I reserve the right to alter/remove/add any rules as I see fit. You will, of course, be notified if that happens, however.

SETUP:

• there are 7 town and 2 mafia
  
• players start with 2 HP, and die when their HP goes to 0. nobody knows what their HP is other than that it starts at 2. executions occur as normal.
  
• all actions emerge from potions, and may use one each night by default. whenever a player takes an action, they lose the potion that allowed them to take the action (though the potion may be received by another player). the only exceptions to this are that mafia have a factional inventory of potions, and choose the distribution of potions between the members at the end of day 1; also, they have some amount of factional information and daytalk. players may only use a potion at night, though the potion may have effects at other times. there is not a factional nightkill.
  
• players will flip with their alignment & the amount of potions they had when they died
  
• players are explicitly allowed to claim their ingredients
  
• sometimes the potions will taste kind of bad. this is a bad thing (it would be better if they tasted good)

@schadd_, if I were to say something like "hey, retti, I think datisi is wrong about X, Y, Z in post A, because E, F, G, what do you think?" would that count as disagreeing with datisi and lead to receiving damage? asking because in the post explaining about how the power works, it says that datisi must be clearly addressed for the damage-taking to apply, and in such an instance retti would clearly be the one being addressed, not dats

maybe the word "addressed" is awkward for this, but there are circumstances where you could make a statement like the one you suggested and still be obviously intending to communicate your disagreement to datisi specifically (this would of course be context-dependent). so to answer your question, in a vacuum that statement would not make you take damage but it's not impossible !!!

i should also note that this principle could also apply to certain statements made publicly and superficially directed as a question toward me

I think your charisma potion is just fine. This is me disagreeing with you, and you should be loving it.

I believe it works in tandem with Rhyme and Reason. I'm hard locking R&R because I have the exact same potion, though I haven't used mine yet to deal 1 damage to a player. I think in tandem with your potion, we can execute players we don't want around.

just a quick primer on what the hell happened here:

-tsjis shot by r&r night 1
-pob long and toogeloo shot by mafia on night 1 (toogeloo would have died of charisma if not executed)
-t3 self inflicted charisma wound d2
-mafia able to make three shots on night 2 via one potion of Drink More Potions, which were tsjis, pob long, t3
-endgame via equal town and scum this day phase
-mafia out of damaging potions after this (just two roleblock potions, which would be useless as everyone has pretty much used any useful potions at this point)
-rhyme and reason would wake up with an inno on skitter (endgame besties)
-so if e.g. tsjis survived (like if she hadnt been shot, or maybe even claimed to be shot) mafia would be staring down 5p elo with 2 clears and maybe no nightkill power left. Yowza! the game would hinge solely on them being able to take down r&r which i think would simply happen LOL

let me know if anyone would like me to clarify the full distribution of potions to everyone, that information would be scattered around a bunch of different threads and things. i'll save everybody time and say that like 80% of criticisms of the setup are totally correct and 20% are HORRIBLY MISGUIDED and SWATTED AWAY LIKE A MOSQUITO. i think it turned out roughly similar to a 9p micro with a vig, which is kind of a mediocre one. i think i did potion of charisma just because, like, charisma is a classic thing to have a potion of & i couldn't think of a more honest way to implement it. hopefully you don't mind having tried it out, it's nice to have the occasional reminder why people don't do posting restrictions. Lol

rundown of a setup i'm planning to run for MBOS 13

(inaugural mini theme for the boxen), hopefully a clarified version of the setup from this game:

• semi open 8:3
  
• there are potions again. and no nightkill either!
  
• every player gets: approximately 1 pain potion (deal 1 HP of damage). approximately 0.5 harmography potions (watcher but only applies to pain potions). approximately 0.2 jailkeeper potions. approximately 0.3 doctor potions.
  
• every member of the mafia gets approximately 0.4 additional pain potions, and approximately 0.7 potions of Drink More Potions. (note: pain potion will be amended so that you cannot use more than one on a given night)
  
• on day 4, everybody dumps their potions into the Torlet. then a magical fairy brings everyone a new distribution of potions by the same rules that they got them on the first day (which can then be used as soon as night 4)
  
• when i say "approximately

• Why Poisson Distribution?:
  um its a way of getting whole number amounts of thingies. evilly i like the variance of it. also i have to find ways to use my stats degree.

this resembles a nightless game where mafia are struggling to muscle their way in to the execution order ever so slightly, sort of an inversion of how it usually works. in particular, a 3:8 nightless game has a town EV of 45% ish, which i think is a pretty high number by our standards and i wanna say nightless games will tend to be more difficult for mafia in generalㅡso mafia will really want to try their damnedest to sneak in a few kills of their own, and town tries to Thwart and Detect their kills and Make Kills of their Own. the aim is to bring focus on a few fundamental intuitions of night play, as well as the relatively underexplored condition of defending one's own kill choices.
