Board game night at Cook's. Bring your own dice – still feel a bit weird about the delta variant. Emergency accommodations have been made just in case it gets too late or someone decides to film a Speed remake at the local airport. Hey, you never know.

Before we begin, a few ground rules.

Boring and Long Rules List

Nope. Didn’t steal these from anybody.
  1. MafiaScum rules.
Follow them. They take precedence over these.
  2. Mod communication.
Don't quote it, especially private ones. That means role PMs.
  3. Private communication.
Only use the threads I provide. Don't PM other players, use other PTs for talking about this game, or use any other medium to communicate about the game to other players. I'm fine if you mention the votecount in-thread.
  4. Games.
You're playing this one. Play to win it.
  5. Cryptography.
I don't like it. Don't hash your posts or use a Caesarean cypher or anything like that.
  6. Small text.
Don't use it. Anything smaller than the Small size will get bumped up in size, except for tags.
  7. Games of chance.
While this setup is based on rolling dice, keep in mind that provable RNG is still prohibited.
And yes, you may claim that you rolled whatever you like. The setup will be randed from your rolls anyhow.

  8. The L-Word.
    Don't use it.
  9. My mod color is
    #0FBF15, bold.
You may use colors similar to it, however, using the color itself isn't neat.
  10. My flavor color
    is
    #888888, italicized
. This will denote information that is not necessary to read to play the game, but will improve your immersion should you read it.
  11. After death
you are permitted one contentless bah post. Posting content in a bah post, making multiple bah posts, or bahposting in PTs will get you warned and the bah censored.
  12. Any questions?
Ask. Please use PMs, though — that guarantees that I see it and that any potentially sensitive information is kept sensitive.
Ballot Counting
  1. VOTE: Cook
or VOTE: Cook to cast. UNVOTE: or
    UNVOTE:
without a name on the inside is fine, same with including the vote name. You may use nicknames or shortenings, so long as it's clear who you're referring to
  2. If I think it counts, it counts.
If I can't tell who you're referring to, it won't.
  3. Hammer by simple majority.
Once majority is reached, no new or changed votes will be permitted.
  4. You may cast a vote for no-hammer.
    Simple majority
(more than 50% of votes are for it) rules.
Deadlines and Timing
  1. Days last
    seven
    days, nights last
    two
, with the exception of the first day, which lasts
    ten.

  2. Once a hammer vote has been cast, we enter a phase of Twilight, in which you may continue posting until the flip happens.
  3. Any posts made post-flip will be redacted.
  4. Unusual to me, even if I am watching the thread when hammer occurs, twilight is guaranteed to last one hour.

  5. Days will end faster if a hammer happens.
  6. Nights will end faster if all players vote to nightskip.
Prods, Replacements, and Activity
  1. Prods will be issued every 72 hours without game-advancing content. Even something as simple as "Cook is scum" or "Let's vote Cook" counts as advancing content.
  2. If you are prodded, you have 24 hours to respond or I will search for a replacement.
  3. If you are prodded 3 times throughout the game, I'll search for a replacement.
  4. If you are on V/LA, instead, I will poke you every 72 hours. Two pokes is a prod.

The Setup

  1. Everyone will get the same role PM:
    3d20
    .
  2. Once everyone has confirmed, I will take the dice rolls and generate
    one role per confirmation
    .
  3. I reserve the right to make any edits to dice rolls that I wish with the intent of making a more "balanced" game.
I will try to refrain from doing so but if there's a
    really
broken role combination like Serial Killer Vigilante Roll Twice (Multitasking and Rampaging) then I will change it. This may also be used to merge Masonries with only one member.
  4. After all roles are generated, I will randomize the setup and give you your second role PMs. Confirm with those and we'll start the game rolling.
Role PM
3d20

Your role and alignment are variable and will be decided shortly.

Please confirm by replying with

Code: Select all

[dice]3d20[/dice]
.

Spoiler: First Die - Alignment
1-12
- Town

13-14
- Mafia

15-16
- Werewolf

17-18
- Alien

Aliens get a single-shot nightkill. They will win ties in endgames.
19
- Cult

Granted Cult Leader abilities as well. Re-roll this as Third Party if a Cult Leader already exists.
20
- Third Party

(Roll 1d4 to determine your wincon:
1. Survivor, 2. Jester
3. SK, 4. SK)
SK gains a nightkill if selected.

Spoiler: Second Die - Role
1 - Vanilla (town)/Goon (groupscum)/Bulletproof (3p)
2 - Alignment Cop (moderator, roll another d20 to determine which alignment it finds, turning it essentially into a Bloodhound, Cop, Seer, Conspiracy Theorist, Private Investigator, or FBI Agent, depending on what rolls)
3 - JOAT (With a 1-shot of Alignment Cop, Doctor, Roleblocker, and one role on this list (roll d20) each.)
4 - Mason-type (Roll d20, rerolling same-faction results, to determine if they are added to the Hypogeans, Masons, Monks, Truthers, Atheists, or Neighborhood Watch, based on what evil alignment rolls)
5 - Neighborizer/Cult Leader
6 - Fruit Vendor
7 - Paranoid Gun Owner
8 - Parity Cop
9 - Role Cop
10 - Tracker
11 - Asceticizer
12 - Motion Detector
13 - Finder (moderator, roll another d20 and consult this list for the result)
14 - Voyeur
15 - Doctor
16 - Babysitter
17 - Bus Driver
18 - Jailkeeper
19 - Roleblocker
20 - Vigilante/Serial Killer

Spoiler: Third Die - Modifier
1, 2, 3 - Normal (no modifier)
4 - 1d4-shot (may only use the ability in question the specified amount of times)
5 - Multitasking (may use multiple abilities that aren't the same in the same night)
6 - Odd-Night (ability only works on odd nights)
7 - Even-Night (ability only works on even nights)
8 - Night 1d4 (ability only works on the night specified)
9 - Simple (ability only works on Vanillas and Goons)
10 - Complex (ability only works on power roles)
11 - Reflexive (will passively use their ability if someone visits them)
12 - Activated (must choose when to use their ability the day before)
13 - Doubled (may use their ability twice in the same night)
14 - Rampaging (uses ability on everyone who also visited their target)
15 - Godfather (appears Town)
16 - Miller (appears Mafia)
17 - Hirsute (appears Werewolf)
18 - Ugly (appears Alien)
19 - Evangelistic (appears Cult)
20 - Reroll twice, adding both modifiers. If they contradict, the higher die wins. If they are complementary (read: even and odd night) they cancel out.

Pregame

Aliens are given a bonus role in their PT.
All 3p players will also be given a bonus role PM. They may choose to pick either role to confirm as.

For up to one prod timer's length at the start of the game all Aliens may choose to shuffle around and redistribute their roles as they see fit, including the unused role. These will lock at the end of that timer.

Example:

dice tags removed because previewing sucks

3d20 - I rolled a 17, 4, and 12. Alien Mason-type Activated
For the Mason-Type roll. I rolled a 20, which is 3P, so Neighborhood Watch.

Meaning the (unflavored) role PM is as follows:
Alien Activated Neighborhood Watch

- You are a member of the Aliens, a group of evil villagers who want to kill off the rest of the Town.
- Your Alien PT is
here.

- As a member of the Aliens, you share a night-kill, which you may opt to execute. As a faction, you may only do the nightkill
X
amount of times.
- During the day you may PM the mod to join the Neighborhood Watch PT the night following, a secret group of players who are all guaranteed to not be Third-Parties.

Clarifications

This list will get updated as questions get posed, but a few off the top of my head:
  • Jester does
    not
    end the game if eliminated.
  • Cultings resolve after kills. If you die and are culted in the same night you will retain your original alignment.
  • Cult Leader is the only member of the Cult capable of performing the recruitment. If the Cult Leader dies the Cult will remain alive but powerless. Culting does not vanillaize.
  • Town and 3p members are always able to be culted. Groupscum are able to be culted if there are no other members of their team left alive. Atheists (Mason-type who know they aren't Cult) cannot be culted.
  • Neighborizers each have their own neighborhoods.
  • Parity Cop's unmodified ability is "At night you may send me the name of a player. Assuming no interference with your action, you will learn if your target's alignment matches your previous target's."
  • Cultings resolve before investigations. If you investigate someone the night they are culted you will see them as Cult.

The Setup Phase Begins!

flavor
Because only good things can come from rolling dice to determine things, Cook has decided to make everyone use their dice they brought with them to help resolve a dispute of no consequence – "which board game should we play?"

Roll PMs have been sent. Awaiting all 13. (13/13)

All Roll PMs collected! I have generated a setup out of those rolls. Changes
did
have to be made for balance – FIVE different rolls on FIVE different rolecards were fudged to create a more theoretically balanced environment. These changes will be made public at the end of the game.

A reminder that these generated rolecards will be shuffled before the game begins – you may not get your own 3d20 cast back as your role. But it should help you setup speculate :P

All Role PMs sent. Awaiting 10/13 confirmations or 72 hours, of which (expired on 2021-08-22 17:49:57) remains. (9/13)

One more confirm and the thread opens!

"Glad you could all make it!" Cook says to the party, then glares at the tower of boxes on the table. "Glad you could all bring your own games, too..." She cheers up. "So let's figure out what to play!"

The group instantly explodes into discordant argument. Games are thrown left and right, both metaphorically and literally. Chaos ensues.

"Settlers of Catan!"
"Betrayal!"
"Chess tourney!"
"Chinese Checkers is better!"
"Guys! Stop! Let's play Mafia!" Cook exclaims.
"Boo! Survivor!" one particularly adventurous scummer yells. No clear consensus can be had on a game.

Cook eventually picks up a ninja throwing cookie and tosses it at the wall, shattering it and the argument dead in its tracks.

"We're going to settle this the old-fashioned way."

"With guns?" one person jokes.

"Nope. I'm sick of all of you arguing so much. Please, just
STOP!
"
"Instead of asking people to pick on a game, we're gonna pick people to kick out of the house. Once there's a consensus among the others, then we'll play that game."

"Can it at least be something casual?" another person asks. A murmur of consensus, with a few holdouts.

"I want it
universal
, y'hear? No opposition from anyone here about the game we pick. Okay?"

"Alright."

"Now then. Who's up first?"[/color]

Enough players have confirmed. The game begins!

I've lost my lotus tile. Most people think the lotus tile insignificant, but it is essential for the unusual strategy that I employ.

Also in general people should claim if they rolled an anti-town first number.
