General Rules

  1. 1. Obey all site rules, which can be found here.
    2. Do not, under any circumstances, quote your role PMs or any other PMs sent by the moderator. Paraphrasing is okay.
    3. Do not contact other players to discuss the game outside of the game thread. This includes both PMs and offsite communication.
    4. Play to win this game, not your future games.
    5. Do not use extremely tiny text, cryptography, invisible text, or anything of the sort. Everything you post should be public info.
    6. Do not use provable randomness. This includes dice tags.
    7. Do not impersonate the moderator.
Bolded #D972FF
is my mod colour. Don't use it!
8. Once you have died, you lose the ability to post. Do not make a “bah” post.
9. When in doubt about the rules, do not hesitate to ask me for clarification.
10. Morning Tweet is the moderator, Not Known 15 is the backup moderator and setup reviewer.[/list][/size]
Voting and Deadlines

  1. 1. All votes and unvotes must be put in bold or with VOTE:   tags. Vote tags are highly prefered.
    2. Votes made in spoilers will not be counted.
    3. Abbreviations and nicknames in votes are acceptable, as long as I can clearly tell who you are referencing.
    4. When a player reaches a majority of votes or a phase otherwise meets a condition to come to an end, all votes are frozen and all effects, such as eliminations, are resolved. All players may continue to post up until the thread is locked.
    5. No eliminations or no votes are not permitted. You must make a decision each time one is presented, unless otherwise noted.
    6. Deadlines are highly variable, however-- day-like phases tend to have around 5-10 day deadlines. Night-like phases tend to have 48-hour deadlines.
    7. If all living players participating in a phase agree to it via PM, I will end any phase deadline early.
Activity

  1. 1. While participating in an active event (that is, one that has not yet reached a decision), you are expected to make at least one game-relevant post every 36 hours. Players who go 36 hours without posting during such a time period will be prodded.
    2. Prod timers are reset at the beginning of each event.
    3. If you are prodded, you have 24 hours to post in-thread. Prod dodges do not count. If you do not respond within 24 hours, you will be replaced. Additionally, if you accumulate more than 3 prods, I may force replace you.
    4. If I have not yet found a replacement for a player being replaced and they post in thread, they may retake their slot. If I am force replacing a player, this rule does not apply.
    5. If you are going to be V/LA, please announce it in thread or PM me. Players on V/LA are exempt from the prod rules for the duration of their V/LA. V/LA banners are much appreciated.

SLAUGHTER HOUR

Greetings, contestant! Our gameshow today functions in ways similar to, but also distinct from a normal game of mafia. Please read all of the following rules carefully.

The Main Events

This game has no daytime or nighttime! Instead, we will play through
event phases
. There will be at least five, but no more than ten events played!

Events
are like mini-games and typically involve all living players making a big decision or many small ones! If the game doesn't involve all living players, the deadlines will be made as short as possible as to mimick a typical night-phase.

Stagehands

The stagehands (scum faction) have access to greater knowledge surrounding the events than the uninformed individual might have from reading the public thread. What this private knowledge may entail... that's up to you to figure out.

Addtionally, the stagehands have a two-shot factional ability to
sabotage
an event. This will typically bend the rules to their favour, and it may cause the game to contradict its previously stated rules.
An event being sabotaged may or may not be publicly announced!

Promises and Disclaimers

Our show today is bastard! However, there are no cults, mid-game alignment changes, or secret wincons. There's no direct moderator influence (including before the game), and I will never tell ridiculous lies!

However, some sabotages may cause moderator info to become inaccurate or not include the full details in some capacity. There are also elements of randomness and misdirection within the setup, but they are very uncommon and are also influenceable by the players despite being deceptive or random.

Serious Content Warning - Unintentional self-harm/suicide is a component of one game. It's not described in detail.

A Final Note

Always remember to have fun and makes lots of laughs!
I look forward to the performance...

Role PMs are being sent out. The game will commence when 14/16 players have confirmed, or in 24 hours.

Presently, 0/16 players have confirmed.

IMPORTANT NOTICE FOR ALL CAST MEMBERS:
There are exactly four scum. They have daytalk. Don't make me have to repeat myself, now!

14/16 players have confirmed, so the game may begin!

A curtain lifts to reveal a grand cast-iron throne covered in restraints from the back of the headrest to the bottom of the legs.

"It's time for the first event! Let's make it a great one, everybody!"

Not counting yourself, there are fifteen contestants in total. The emotion on their faces range anywhere from pent-up excitement to a dull sense of dread.

"Listen up! Four of you are not really true contestants, but fake implants sent by the studio to steal all the prize money! Gasp!"

You don't remember hearing anything about there being prize money.

"This will never do! Therefore, I have gifted you a way to deal with them. Behold.. the 'Chair of Execution'!"

You like where you're sitting currently. This grand metal chair doesn't sit well with you.

"Ta-da! Don't worry, it's all a part of the show!"

She flashes you a warm smile, before leaving center stage to greet members of the crowd.

You figure the show has truly begun!

GAME SECRET #1
In event #1, you are going to be nominating a player to sit in the "Chair of Execution". Now, you might think that such a chair executes the player sitting in it -- but no, no, no!
The one who sits in the throne becomes the Executioner themself! After being nominated, they then select any other player to kill in the next game. Don't get on their bad side, am I right?! Haha!
Oh. But after they kill someone, the rest of the game will vote on whether or not to execute the Executioner. Highly ironic, I know. There's an incentive to spare town executioners.
[/mech]

GAME SECRET #2
Aren't you glad I gave you a warning about the chair in advance?
Speaking of warnings, in the next game there are going to be two nominees! The first-place and second-place wagons in the next event get to participate in a duel to the death!
It's a little based in chance, but what's life without a little suspence, hey? The second-place wagon gets to go first, so that's something!
If one of you saps is unfortunate enough to be eliminated in that game, you'll have an opportunity to trade them off for a nightkill.
More on that later, but for your information, if a town executioner is spared in this game, that'll affect your nightkill power!
[/mech]

GAME SECRET #3
We're here! Oh, how I've been waiting for this one!
During the duel, the players will take turns firing the gun at themself, firing the gun at opponent then self, or spinning the barrel to reset the odds.
You all can pick where the bullet starts initially in the gun
. Type: "
Bullet: Number
" in this chat to choose. But here's the real kicker:
THIS -> If one of you is forced to play, you can avoid the game entirely! Say: "
Rapid Fire: Name
" during the duel and you can shoot
any player in the entire game!

OR ->If one of you is forced to play, you can speed up the game. Say: "
Rapid Fire: Name
" during the duel and you can
kill your opponent automatically
.
You will be killed too for breaking the rules, though. The current location of the bullet will still be revealed if you perform this action, so if no one spun, keep that in mind!

By the way.. during the next game, players on the largest wagon from this game will join a team, while everyone else will join another team.
If teams are uneven, I'll add players at the end of the biggest wagons to the smaller team.
Then both teams will nominate a member of the opposing team for possible elimination.
[/mech]

GAME SECRET #4
Where are we.. oh, yes! This one!
After both teams make their nominations, a secret ballot will be held. Players can vote once for their own nominee, twice for the opposing nominee, or pass.
The player with the most votes will die. No voting info is revealed. That is... except to you all. I'll tell you who voted for what, just because I like you.
[/mech]

GAME SECRET #5
Isn't this a tricky game? I've given you the power to kill a player.. but town gets to have a say in who!
If I were you, I'd downplay whoever you feel are the biggest threats. Trick everyone into sending them across the board early. Then.... yank!
For your information, the four players who fail to make it across are going to be forced to play in a shootout. They'll all be firing guns at each other. I don't expect many to live.
So..... try to get across.....? That's all I got for you there.
In order to select your kill target, post "
Kill: Player
" in this chat. You'll want to do this in advance. You add as many targets as you want and can change them at any time.
You will automatically kill a player if that player crossing would cause you to lose the game.
[/mech]

GAME SECRET #6
I hope you all followed my advice! What? No I'm not prerecording these messages!
I'm just not paying enough attention as to keep track of which of you are stagehands! Sorry!
I can't help you with this game. However, the next game is a public vote that alternates between nominating players for Heaven or Hell.
I shouldn't have to tell you that you do NOT want to be sent to Hell. It's very hard to save more than one scum player from Hell, if even that.
[/mech]

GAME SECRET #7
Greetings, stagehands! I write to you bearing important secrets.
In Hell, should you not choose to sabotage it next game, players who are sent Hell can only get out of hell if another player in hell sacrifices for them. They DIE otherwise.
However, if no one sacrifices for anyone, and there are multiple town in Hell, then scum gets to save any one player from there. You see, this is okay, because it is never revealed what happens in Hell.
In Heaven, the saints get to vote on a Ruler who performs an important function in Game #9. If you get Ruler, well.. you've got so much power!
[/mech]

GAME SECRET #8
Hello once more! I hope you did well to not get sent to the dungeon, I mean Hell.
If you have no players in one of the dimensions, I'll let you send a spy to listen in on the other dimension. Just say "
(Playername) spies on Heaven/Hell
" in this chat. Only one of you can go.
AS THE SPY, DO NOT SAY ANYTHING IN THERE! YOU MAY ONLY LISTEN! GOT IT?

In other news, I'll let you in on what the Ruler is for.
In Game #9, the Ruler chooses who is eligible to be eliminated. Half of the players rounded down. Then everyone votes "YEA" or "NAY" to eliminating them. A majority decides to eliminate or spare.
If the majority say "NAY" to all eliminations, one player must die at least, so the one with the most "YEA"s will die.
[/mech]

GAME SECRET #9
We're nearing the end of it all. The following game is typically much easier for scum than this one, should you survive until then!
Essentially, the group nominates a coalition of players, and if any are scum, scum wins! If the group isn't comfortable with a coalition, they may weed out players via eliminations and scum nightkills.
The game is more complicated than this, but that explanation should suffice.
I'll give you a little bonus tip, why don't I?
The coalition in that game starts with 50% of the players + 1. If an elimination occurs, it goes down to 50% of the players -- but the eliminated player doesn't have their alignment revealed.
What I'm saying is... try and keep a particularly suspicious townie alive, eh? Let them get cocky and send one of you after thinking they eliminated scum.
[/mech]

GAME SECRET #10
I just want to say, I am so, so proud of your performances. Take a bow.
You've served the show brilliantly. Whether or not you come out alive, just know the journey has been a spectacle to us all.
There is nothing left for me to say to you. Our show approaches its climax. How does the story end?
In order to select your kill target for Tick Away, post "
Kill: Player
" in this chat. You'll want to do this in advance. You can change it at any time.
[/mech]

GAME SABOTAGE #1
After a wagon is hammered, the chair will malfunction and refuse the nominated player.
A new vote will be called. The previously nominated player cannot be chosen, in addition to up to three other players of your choice!
This sabotage must be activated before a wagon is hammered.
[/mech]

GAME SABOTAGE #2
After the executioner selects a player to kill, the guillotine refuses to activate.
A guillotine of your choice specified in the sabotage will activate instead. Afterwards, the Executioner must pick a different target.
This sabotage must be activated before the executioner selects a player.
[/mech]

GAME SABOTAGE #3
Spinning the barrel will not reset the bullet's placement.
In other words, if the bullet is in chamber 3, spinning the barrel will do nothing to change that.
This sabotage must be activated before the duel begins. This sabotage is kept a secret.
[/mech]

GAME SABOTAGE #4
Two different players of scum's choice are attached to both team's nominees.
In other words, if Suspect Pink is killed, Attached Player Pink dies. If Suspect Blue dies, Attached Player Blue dies.
You cannot attach the suspects to each other or themselves.
This sabotage must be activated before the secret ballot begins and will be publicly announced.
[/mech]

GAME SABOTAGE #5
An additional town-aligned player must make it across before scum is forced to kill.
In other words, if three players must make it across for scum to lose, that amount is changed to four.
This sabotage must be activated any time before scum kills a player and will be publicly announced.
[/mech]

GAME SABOTAGE #6
A target player's gun will be filled with blanks.
That player will also be guaranteed to die.
This sabotage must be activated before the shooting deadline. This sabotage is kept a secret.
[/mech]

GAME SABOTAGE #7
Instantly decide the next two phases.
For example, if we are in a Heaven phase, you may instantly send a player to Heaven, then another player to Hell.
This sabotage must be activated after at least two group decisions have already been made.
[/mech]

GAME SABOTAGE #8A
The hell game is altered. All players will vote to bind a player in chains, preventing them from ever escaping hell.
Scum votes secretly do not count for this vote. Then, scum selects one or two players to save from hell.
However, there are two restrictions: 1.) At least half the players in hell need to die, and 2.) only one scum maximum can be saved.
This sabotage must be activated before the current Hell event concludes and is publicly announced as a change to the game's rules.
All previous progress in the Hell game is reverted once this sabotage is activated.
[/mech]
GAME SABOTAGE #8B
One player in Heaven is disqualified from becoming ruler. If there are five or more players in Heaven, then two players may be disqualified.
This sabotage must be activated before a ruler is chosen.
[/mech]

GAME SABOTAGE #9
The nominee at time of sabotage requires one less "YEA" vote in order to be eliminated at the end of the event.
In other words, if they reach # votes, they will be dead and not even know it.
Additionally, if no nominees reach a majority of "YEA" votes, then this sabotaged player will automatically be chosen as the tie-breaker, regardless of how many "YEA"s they got.
This sabotage must be activated before the nominee is hammered one way or the other.
They will not be announced as eliminated or sabotaged until game #9 concludes. The sabotage is only announced if it directly causes an elimination.
[/mech]

Spoiler: alternate pregame flavour
Image
Creeeaakk... the girl slowly drags out a metal chair covered in restraints from the headrest to the legs.

"It's time for the first event! Let's make it a great one.."

You take a moment to observe the others on stage. There's twelve of you in total, some bound in chairs, some chained to the stage itself.

"Listen here. I've invited some guest stars to join us today. Friends of mine. Play nice, you four.."

Guest invites? Friends of hers? You don't like the sound of that.

"So... go ahead.. nominate someone for the 'Chair of Execution'! Don't be shy, now."

Somehow, the iron chair gives off an even more sinister feeling than your current restraints.

"Good luck.. everyone.."

She flashes you a crooked smile briefly, before exiting the stage to walk amongst the nonexistant crowd.

This is ridiculous.. but you're not sure what other choice you have.

"Welcome one.. welcome all."

Something knocks you hard on the head as a flashlight is shone in your face.

You notice a dusty VHS camcorder mounted on a tripod and aimed in your direction. You hear a click, and an LED on the front begins to blink red.

"and.... action! We're on the air!"

A small figure dressed in an oversized coat faces rows of empty chairs, before turning around to address you directly.

"Ready, everyone? I hope you're as excited as I am! We're going to have a great time."

The host hurriedly ushers Gamma Emerald to the chair, bouncing up and down with excitement all the way.

"Well?! Come on then, we haven't all day!"

He gingerly walks up the obvious trap, pausing briefly, before finally sitting down.

Clink!

Iron restraints clasp over his hands and feet. You wonder what this "Throne of Execution" has in store.

"Time for the fun part! Ooh, the anticipation!"

You spin around in response to a shuffling noise from behind. A shroud moves away to reveal a rusty guillotine.

"You're going to love this one!"

Spoiler: original sabotage #2

After a period of consideration, the executioner makes their choice.

"Ah, PookyTheMagicalBear! Yes, of course! Off we go, then..!"

The crowd positively roars with excitement. Cheers and boos echo loudly off the theatre walls. Total and utter confusion sets over the cast members' faces.

The executioner shakes their head and voices their protest amidst the din, but it's in vain. The host already has her back turned and her mind made.

Is it possible your game has any of the following: cults, mid-game alignment changes, moderator lies that cannot be reasonably anticipated (for example, Godfather, Tailor, Miller, Ninja, and mechanics like that are generally fine. Telling someone they are a reflexive doctor when they're actually a PGO is not), secret win conditions, un-divulged non-randomness in player role/alignment generation, direct moderator influence during the game? (Yes/No)
    - Yes. There are minor elements of randomness as well as deception in the form of going back on previously stated information. However, there are no ridiculous moderator lies, mid-game alignment changes, cults, secret wincons, or direct moderator influence.

Spoiler: notes on flavour
It's meant to be a demented show that treats itself lightheartedly
The narration takes place from the host's PoV, not the contestants I think
So it's not going to focus on how it's horrible
The horrible stuff is more of an undertone
It primarily focuses on being theatrical
However maybe when the game ends it'll break away to the player's PoV for a brief moment to reveal that the narrator has been unreliable
Basically my current idea is that the game is told from the host/audience PoV which more or less isn't real

The stagehands are fictional characters in the narrators mind. If all contestants are eliminated, then the flavour cuts to the narrator looking over all of the dead bodies. If all of the stagehands are eliminated, then the narrator loses control of the game in real life

Perhaps use a different colour when the game reverts to real life

The tenth game isn't planned. If Crash the Party wins out, the host kills the contestants, and if Ring the Bell wins out, then the host is stopped. May change the exact names

Game Features

Spoiler: Welcome to the Show!
- No day and night or power roles. Instead, our show progresses through a series of events! At least five, but no more than ten.
- Events are like mini-games -- and you've gotta stake your life on the line to play!
- Our legal team has notified me that we are obligated to remind you this is all just a part of the show.
- Events typically involve a group decision, many small individual decisions, or perhaps something else entirely!
- Every game will almost always involve all players.
- If they don't, players who are waiting for a game to end will likely not have to wait much longer than a typical night phases' length.
[/spoiler]
Spoiler: The Stagehands
- Four of you are not contestants, but rather greedy stagehands coming after the prize money! Gasp!
- The stagehands have access to secret info about the games. What this secret info may be is also a secret.
- The stagehands have a two-shot factional ability to sabotage the games in their favour.
- Sabotage may cause the rules of the game to be deceptive, add new rules, or go back on previously-stated rules.
- Sometimes sabotage is publicly announced, sometimes it isn't. It all depends!
[/spoiler]
Spoiler: Our Promise to You
- Our show is bastard; however, it is guaranteed to not contain any of the following:
- Cults, mid-game alignment changes, or secret wincons.
- Ridiculous moderator lies.
- Direct moderator influence, including during the pregame.
[/spoiler]
Spoiler: The Fine Print
- Our show does, however, include the following:
- Minor elements of misdirection.
- Sabotages may occasionally cause additional/different effects to happen than were previously stated by the moderator.
- There may be elements of randomness within the confines of some games, but they are influenceable and uncommon.
[/spoiler]
Spoiler: Note to Aspiring Actors
- Actor health and safety is guaranteed!

- Any injury, physical or mental, will be compensated for.

- We believe the set is perfectly safe some of the time!
- More importantly, always remember to have fun out there! Go make tons of laughs!

Events
are like mini-games and typically involve all living players making a big decision or many smalls ones!

There's no direct moderator influence (including before the game), and I will never make ridiculous lies!

Tl;Dr

  1. 1. Hydras are not permitted.
    2. This game is bastard, although only to a small degree.
    3. One event phase has a content warning (
    unintentional self-harm
    )
    4. Balance was strived for but cannot be guaranteed.
