I wasn't sure whether or not scum would use it -- on one hand, it's 12v4 (essentially nightless) and they don't get many nightkill opportunities, but on the other it's so early in the game the nightkill effectiveness is lower. The WIFOM element from blocking the executioners choice can be good. It does create a lot of information for town if used wrong though

all in all i think this is a quite good sabotage but I do wish I had worked the game mechanics a little so the executed nobles could do something. I didn't because their decisions might end up being sheeped, and also the death mechanic in this game works so that players can die at any point during events and can't talk, all flips get saved til the end

I wish I had implemented that sabotage more cleanly. It's essentially a night one kill, and scum doesn't really get auto kills with most sabotages, but because this one is so early it's a bit stronger to justify the cost. Killing one townie out of 12 on the first night is really not that good unless you have a good reason.

I dont think it's unbalanced but I do think it's anti-fun. I wish i had thought of a more enjoyable implementation

I think sparing Gamma is the incorrect move there

of his alignment - just having his alignment resolved and known is a tremendous help for the town in dissecting what actually went on during D1 and figuring out the interactions he made with the rest of the game.

It's essentially using a no-elim in standard Mountainous which doesn't make a lot of sense here since you don't even know how many eliminations will be controlled by the town at all!

I really wanted a way for the D1 elim to redeem themself in a way, get a chance in the spotlight to turn themself around. But then later in design i was like, if i were a player, i would definitely just say fuck it and kill both the executioner and the player they killed since info is king

I was hoping the benefit would make it more of a question whether to do it or not, and it seems to have worked (?) I also really like how Gamma went from most suspected to a pretty decently townread player. It's a fun dynamic.

I am not super pleased with the sabotage mechanic for that game. One idea i had after the fact was right before the nobles get executed, they get a last speech/words to post publicly to the thread. This would be after the spare/execute since they could just dictate the spare/execute decision which isn't what i wanted

unfortunately i couldnt implement that system as it was too late when i thought of it. I think that would have helped mitigate how annoying the early kill was, if only somewhat. It definitely would have been fun

I am sorry that I failed you as a moderator, Prism. By the time I woke up that day, the initial events had transpired and you had already repped out.

I made a judgement call that replacing Gamma out as well wasn't going to improve the game. Had I known that Gamma would proceed to bring it up in thread, I would have done so -- I did not think he would. I gave him a lot of benefit of the doubt.

My timezone as well as hesistance towards taking greater action ended up hurting you and replacing you out when you obviously didn't do anything wrong and Gamma did act incredibly rude and insensitively.

Had I been online I would have warned Gamma immediately for his early posts in the exchange and had he continued any further I would have replaced him out. Unfortunately I only dealt with the aftermath and I took what I perceived at the time to be the less destructive option. I'm really sorry that I didn't take action sooner or more effectively, and I understand if you no longer feel safe playing my games.

I can reveal what about the event was determinant without spoiling too much.

Scum knew a secret about the event. If they so chose, a stagehand in the duel could fire the gun 6 times at (any player in the game of their choice / just their opponent). They would then be disqualified and killed. That was not a sabotage, either, that was just a hidden action. If a town executioner is spared, the glass was made bulletproof so this secret action only works on the opponent.

i did not anticipate it being this hard to choose a nominee -- I was expecting there to really only be 1-2 suspects for each team, not 4-5. The contestants are so far apart in thinking that the incomplete info they have right now is debilitating.

The idea behind this event is that changing minds of the opposition is valued more greatly than the opinions of those who already agree with you. The teams are comprised of separate wagons from the previous phase for that reason -- they are more likely to having competing views of the game

Oh boy and they did! Ulyana was considered highly town in one and highly suspect in the other, for example

unfortunately pink didn't really... come together.. at all. But we'll see how that affects the game!

In hindsight maybe could have made the ballot results revealed publicly but that would make things quite a bit trickier for scum. As it is, if you can convince 1-2 townies, then the rest of the scum on that team are free to rock the vote and betray

I don't think scum has the power to secretly influence the outcome against their real reads without raising serious questions -- you'd need multiple scum on the same team for it to work, assuming all the town vote together

If you send the middling townies first, scum has to start sweating. With the right picks, scum will have their hand forced into killing a middle-of-the-pack player. This is the optimal outcome, in theory

The idea for this one was "How can I force the players to have to strike a balance between sending players they believe to be town, but not so obvious town that it'd be a disaster to lose them?"

In other words, can I make the players scumhunt in the middle of the pack

Additionally this game gives scum a rare chance at a nightkill. Scum has *some* nightkills even though this is nightless because nightless is pain. But the catch for them is that town can influence the kill with good nominations.

Also this is the game that culls the players who don't want to play / LHF / scum etc and puts the game in a good spot for the more competitive bits that finish it out

absolutely!

In Event #1 (the chair), scum was aware that the chair kingmaked and then everyone would vote to spare/execute the king (with an incentive for sparing town). The sabotage let you cancel a hammer and also disqualify up to three other players (for four total) from being put in the chair.

In Event #2 (the guillotine), scum were informed about the duel coming up and how the vote for it worked. They also learned they can trade a player for a nightkill in that game. The sabotage was, well you saw

Event #3 (the duel) i went into pretty good detail. They also learned about the next game

In Event #4 (blue and pink teams), I explained the secret ballot immediately and scum also learned exact voting info (who voted what). The sabotage let you publicly attach a player to both suspects who would die alongside the suspect if that one was voted out.

In Event #5 (perfect balance), I told scum the abandoned players would play a shootout, and also explained exactly how the game was intended to be played and how they can counter it. The (public) sabotage was to make it so an extra town player had to cross in order for the instawin to activate.

In Event #6 (shootout), I told scum that the heaven/hell was coming up. The sabotage was roleblocking + auto killing a player.

In Event #7 (heaven or hell), I told scum how heaven and hell worked. The sabotage was to instantly send a player to hell and heaven, but only after at least one hell and heaven vote completed.

In Event #8 (inside heaven and hell), scum can spy on the other chat if they dont have any alive members in it. I explained what the ruler does in event 9 and how event 9 works. There were two sabotages: in heaven you could disqualify players for ruler, and in hell you transform the hell game entirely -- it turns into a group vote to prevent 1 player from leaving hell, scum saves someone, then all others in hell die.

In Event #9 (ruler), i explain the last game, final hour, in detail. I also tell scum how to set up for it. The sabotage was to secretly cause a player to take one less "YEA" vote to die and also die in tiebreakers.

It's pretty simple. You nominate a coalition of town, they're all town, town wins. Otherwise, scum wins. You can also weed out players slowly although with caveats. If scum ever equal town they also win of course.

There are two endings, although they're similar

Event #2 originally had no benefit to sparing town (but i realized that meant the person would always be executed).
Event #3 originally did not have scum choose where the bullet went
Event #4 had a strange ballot mechanic that was terrible and i forget it
Event #5 took the most thinking of any event to get what i was thinking of -- nominate town, but not the towniest of town
Event #6 had no changes ever and was one of the first events designed
Events #7-#8 went through a lot of changes. Scum used to choose who went to hell (oops that was really unfair)
Event #9 is a little boring in my opinion
Event #10 makes a lot more sense with more players, it's just a recoloured Xylo when there's this few

- I created the original idea for this game in september... 2020. It was originally called "Death Party" and i forgot about it for at least 10 months before happening on it and wondering if people would play something like this
- Dead players and spectators originally could vote in this chat to "Boo", "Cheer", and give other audience reactions to certain parts of the game
- the game used to be designed more similarly to SirCakez' jigsaw mafia in that it had a day and night phase, day was games everyone plays and night was games only some players selected by scum would play. In the end though I didn't like the wait times and as we were balancing, we tended to bring the entire playerlist back into each game so i removed the nights
- During pregame, scum could choose a player that the host would wink at in the beginning flavour?? Why was that a feature???
- the final game used to be called "Cataclysm" and basically it was a secret elimination with votes hidden that was carried out over and over again until one team won
- Heaven used to elect a "Ruler" and then they would select a "Councilor" who assisted them
- Split decision used to have RNG in the ballot akin sort of to rock paper scissors where you only get two of the options
- in the second game, scum used to not be able to kill through sabotage
- off the top of my head, Kakegurui, jigsaw, danganronpa, and criminal minds all influenced the flavour

- i never intended to cause suffering it just sort of happens. This was something i was hoping would be a fun experiment at first, then i got carried away having fun with the production value
- Not Known 15 was attentive enough to notice the instant i made a deadline mistake but now hasn't been around to tell me his favourite animal for several days
- event #2 was designed (the flavour) first, event #9 last

this is the first time in a game i've had to write both endings because i wasnt sure which team would win by the last phase

- i was gonna do something ridiculous and write two sets of flavour for the game, and change out the flavour that the players read after the game ended with the second hidden set of flavour. So the players would have one story but anyone reading the game would see a different one. I ended up deciding against this but the ending still uses some of what i wrote
- i believe over just the course of this game i got hired, got my medical marijuana card, became a replacement queue bat, and bought my own car (depending on when the game ends)
