In the 13 separate, unfamiliar bedrooms, 13 strangers wake up, startled awake by a large TV that takes up the entire wall in front of their beds. The picture is black, illuminated only by a light off screen, and a figure in a mask stands in the middle of the picture.
"Hello. Hi Hello. Is this thing working? Fuck I thought I had fixed it. Oh there it goes. Yes, well. Hello. Welcome to my neighborhood! I have brought you here to play a little game. Much is at stake and we must make sure that everything works properly before proceeding. You might be asking yourselves 'what is happening?' 'where am I?' 'what is going on?' 'who are you?' Those are all the wrong questions. The right question is: how will you survive? Will you work together, or will you be torn apart in the wind. You will be tested over the next few days and nights. If you are smart you will survive. If you are not you will die. As for who I am? Well, that would be telling. You can call me Mr. Rogers for now. Welcome to my neighborhood. On the bedside table next to you there is a phone. On it there are instructions. I expect you to follow them. At exactly 9:32 AM tomorrow morning your doors will open and your task will begin."
The screen goes black, only to immediately pulse back on, showing the following image
The screen flickers, and then slowly fades to black
The next morning at exactly 9:32 AM 13 separate doors unlock in 13 separate bedrooms, allowing 13 bewildered strangers out of 13 separate houses on a neatly manicured street. The street is off, somehow--not quite right. As if it was someone's idea of what a street ought to look like, instead of the real thing. You can't quite place it. Maybe it's the yellow grass, or the purple pavement. Maybe its the fact that no one here knows who anyone else is. People huddle together in groups of 2 or 3 trying to figure out what is going on. A giant billboard blinks and then turns on, revealing itself as a giant TV screen. On the TV screen is a video of an elephant doing an indecent act. Nothing here is making any sense. There is really only one thing to do, read the information on the phones and try to survive.
