Price is Right... Mod abandoned

Post Post #0 (ISO) » Fri Oct 17, 2008 2:10 pm

Post by xyzzy »

This is the game thread for The Price Is Right Mafia. The thread title will shuffle through various famous quotations from TPIR, but will always be in all caps. The link for the thread will, of course, not change either.

FLAVA FLAV'S FAV FLAVOR

Eric Angeli peered down at the studio, amazed that any place could have such a huge amount of money connected with it. It was the afternoon preceding the taping of another episode of The Price Is Right Million Dollar Spectacular, though this time the prize was much grander than that --- the Angeli family had millions already. This one was $1,000,000,000, money provided by a clause in Bob Barker's will. They still called it "Million Dollar Spectacular" for reasons totally beyond Eric. California, baby. They did things funny around here.

The contest was rigged, of course. It only worked if these things were rigged. The producers of this show had long stopped pulling names out of a hat, or whatever it was they did before the technological revolution --- Eric couldn't really care less. What mattered was that they now just used a computer, and three months of rigging the program they used confirmed Eric's suspicion that they didn't check the program they were using to see if the names were really random. Hopefully they wouldn't check them this time, either.

Cyber crime. It was the big thing these days, the real way to get things done. Oh, sure, you could make a few bucks shootin' up rich locals, but the real money was in moving around money in bank accounts, waiting for people to stop watching their funds. Finding websites that transferred credit card numbers non-securely, that sort of thing. The difference, however, was that the Angeli family weren't afraid of real danger. All these fat pimply kids trying to pull off big heists from grandma's basement were failing because they were afraid to put their life on the line for the big catch --- when the Feds showed up, they didn't have the gun ready.

The Angeli's had been in the business of theft and money laundering for decades, but they'd learned not to stay visible. Let the big boys run the casinos and the whore houses and the speakeasies; those types were all in prison. The Angeli's had remained strong because they did everything perfectly but didn't do much. Assassination, money laundering, things like that which everyone noticed but none could trace. Moving money around was the most successful industry a man could be in. It was still dangerous, and rigging a game so that your associates could come into contact with a Big One Bill was just the sort of thing that fit that. Someone was going to win that money, and making sure that it was someone close to the Angeli's was discreet but big.

Six of the people in the studio audience would be associated with the Angeli's (though there would be no one from the main line of the Angeli family), and they would be members of a pool of fifteen people who might be chosen to "come on down!" All that was left was to inform the six of who else would be working with them; if one of them won the billion dollars, they'd split the winnings, so it made sense for them to work together if possible.

Two members of the family were put in charge of informing the contestants-to-be of who they were working with; it was decided that none of them should have ever met each other. However, those two people were both misinformed of the details of the scam, and as a result the friends of the family had the same misinformation: all believed that they only had two partners, and as a result they were split into groups of three. However, they'd all been told repeatedly that they'd be in a group of six...

REALLY RIGHTEOUS ROLE ROUNDUP

mafia group 1Hi! You're a member of the first group of Mafiosos in the Angeli family --- actually, you're just a friend of the family. Anyway, you happen to be in a group of three people ([NAMES GO HERE]) trying to win some cash, even though you're absolutely sure there's supposed to be six of you. It just doesn't make any sense! Anyway, you will get a share of the winnings if one of the six people working with the Angeli's wins the money. Capiche?

mafia group 2You aren't really sure what's up with those crazy Angeli's, dude. I mean, they told you three times that you'd be in a group of six people trying to earn some cold, hard cash --- one billion dollars, to be exact. But you were told that your group was just [NAMES GO HERE], and so there's only three people. Go figure, it's the Mafia. They probably went and died or something. Anyway, when you're not Plinkoing or something, you should be trying to get either your buddies or some of those other three Angeli's the money, but that's gonna be hard when you don't have any idea who they are, now isn't it?

random personSo, you finally turned eighteen and got tickets to The Price Is Right! Woo hoo! Well, don't tell anyone I said this, but you're secretly required to help hold up justice's mighty hand, since I guess justice has arthritis or something? I'm sorry for that metaphor. Any way, some how you know that there's some bad people working together, and if they don't get the money, that'll translate to a moral victory for you, which is really the best kind of victory. Good luck stopping... uh... the forces of evil you've magically been informed of.

RAMBUNCTIOUSLY ROTE RULES

rules
RULE ONE: Mechanics.
Each part of this game (for, though this is a mafia game, it's not really accurate to use words like day and night --- this is the fabulous
sixty minute
Price Is Right, after all) will have voting. All fifteen of you will retain your vote for the entire game, and it'll always take eight votes to do something. There's four different things to vote on - "Come On Down", "Contestant's Row", "The Big Wheel", and "Showcase Showdown". At the beginning of the game, four people will be voted on for COD; then one of those four will be voted on to win CR. Then, another contestant who hasn't been voted on for COD will be voted on for COD. This will be repeated until three people have been voted on for CR. Those three people will be voted on for TBW; then the whole procedure will be repeated so there's always four people who've been voted to COD to vote for in CR. Once two people have been voted on for TBW, those two will be voted on by the players for SS. The winner of SS will win the game; so will that person's team.
RULE TWO: Be nice!
Treat each other nicely. Don't complain that others are being mean, or ask to be replaced because of your inability to cooperate with them. Don't yell at me if I make mistakes; this is a no-reveal game, so they're not too hard to correct. Don't talk to other people unless it's pregame and you're a member of the Mafia. Don't insult people or be antagonistic for no reason but to be a jerk. Treat this game as a responsibility; treat all other players fairly, and don't intentionally hurt your team. Play to have fun and hopefully win, and good luck!

Erk! I know I said I didn't want a vanilla game, but I think I might be over my head with all these erratic and unconventional rules.

Well, if there's one thing I've learned in life, it's always to make the best of your situation.

would this be a correct table of how many votes there are and each stage where a player can no longer win?
Red denotes a player cannot reach SS
Cyan denotes a player who advanced
