At most of my local dances there's more females than males so the males do not have to sit around nor dance with crickets. IDK if that's regional but I don't think it is.

I was gonna go dancing tonight cause this game got me thinking about it but I got to work 1 hour too late to make it in time :(

Generally they are talking to the partner they attended the dance with. It's often the case the man is not as excited about dancing as his girlfriend/spouse so he dances about 60% of the time. So the idea of guys sitting around awkwardly is still off.

The guys that actually show up stag are actually excited about dancing and dance the whole time.

I think probably most cities have some regular ballroom dancing going on. It pretty naturally has almost no advertising footprint is the thing. If you're interested in it you should look around
