i think it's that high mainly because unicorns are like the poster child for fantasy

I think because of this reason it's in the 35-45 range. Due to it only being a little bit of fantasy and not too much like a dragon for example.
If it was above 50, surely the clue wouldn't be something which can be attributed to fantasy at all?

As you can see we're not getting lots of discussion but I think this is an interesting clue and it'd be a lot of missed opportunity not to discuss the strategy of it more.
Hectic's terse comment makes me think he's just kind of on the level 1 understanding of a unicorn being given as a clue just because unicorns are a real animal (which is definitely the best and safest reason to pick 100). But there's other factors that xtoxm used to help make this not just a 100 but a
safe
100.
One is that a unicorn is a bit of a combination of a narwhal and a horse, and a narwhal and a horse are each individually real things. Unicorns also might make you think about the word realistic because media that depicts them will have to choose how to deal with blood caused by unicorns in the rare instances their horns are used for harm, and showing what happens in a way not appropriate for younger eyes is the "realistic" approach. Unicorns are also sometimes included in stories and legends that include other creatures that are actually fictitious, this draws more emphasis to how realistic the unicorn inclusions are. Last but not least, unicorns are pretty popular in early cave drawings, and most archeologists believe that mistakes in proportion in cave drawings were accidental and that unlike, say, the Egyptians, prehistoric peoples tried to draw animals exactly how they saw them - an approach that, opposed to abstract, is "realistic". This kind of hunt for the best clue from amongst a pile of possible great clues really strikes me as signature Xtoxm

I think unicorns are a strong, sturdy, safe, solid, sound, secure, sure 100. Therefore, we should be going Right.
Isis' interpretation was a little flawed however. Unicorns are actually a cross between a Komodo Dragon (also has 4 legs), a Werewolf (also has fur), and a Cyclops (also has at least 1 eye). As all of these creatures are real, this should be fine.
if i were someone who was less concerned with being added to isis' foe list, i might be inclined to suggest the possibility of the intended target being 45 or so, but as it is it seems that the most likely target is 100, and thus right seems like our best play in this situation.
this clue was quite interesting to think about as it does not make sense to me that a real animal would always be considered a 100 nor a fictional creature a 0, so mentally placing animals such as a platypus (51) or a cat (95) or a black cat (75) or salem (a specific black cat, from sabrina the teenage witch, which is both magical and portrayed by an animatronic puppet which was particularly not realistic, 25) or a dragon with four legs and wings (unlike a unicorn, the musculature needed for functional wings and front legs is impossible, so one must assume their flight is based on magic, so while both are fictional the four-legged dragon is more fantastical, 15) proved an enjoyable exercise.
