Mish Mash Movie Mwatch Mnight

Post Post #0 (ISO) » Mon Jun 15, 2020 10:24 am

Post by VashtaNeurotic »

So last week I had an idea. I was looking at Haschel's Bracket Night Thread while also reminiscing on CC's Movie Mwatch Thread from last spring. One of my favorite times from the latter was when we watched films together in the Official MS Discord (previously in the Mish Mash Discord) voice chat. So, given my major time sink just ended and my love of movies in general (but lack of watching any recently), why not try to start up something that combines them both. As such here's my idea:

1. Post in thread or DM me with any movies you want to watch, it's perfectly fine if they've been suggested before.
2. Every other week I'll select a number of films (randomly but trying to make sure no one's suggestions dominate) and we'll go through a bracket, seeded randomly. Each bracket will last 2 weeks.
3. Each weekend we'll watch one of the top 2 films of the bracket via the voice channel in the MS Discord (IMPORTANT NOTE: You need the movie night role to see the voice channel it takes place in. Just type ?rank Movie Night in the tv-and-movies channel of the MS Discord to get it). I'll make a when2meet to figure out the best time.

Hopefully we'll all get the joy of arguing about/sharing some fun films with each other. Feel free to make any suggestions you think will make this easier/more fun, there is already part of the form that allows new categories to be suggested since if this is a success we will eventually run out of movies.

Also feel free to fill out the form more than once or update your list, the "8 movies per category" is just an arbitrary restriction early on so one persons suggestions don't make up the entire list.

Same... Haha.

I think maybe group all categories into one?

Hmmmm....Yeah we can just have one list and make the categories afterward, or make the brackets a random selection. Sounds fine. In that case feel free to just put suggestions in thread. Will make an edit.

Okay updated the list fully. Gonna nominate some more movies in thread and randomize the first bracket on Monday or Tuesday evening. Hopefully by next (not this) Friday we'll have that one complete.

I found filling out the form was a much easier way to organize some of my thoughts, so I am glad you still have the list there. Movies are just fun, and more fun with friends <3

The Arrival (2016)
The Mirror Crack'd (1980)

Both not movies I've seen, but on my list

Actually if we're doing Agatha Christie adaptations, might as well do Murder on the Orient Express (1974) to purge the 2019 version from our minds

I'm suggesting Batman and Robin, if nothing else, then to watch you guys suffer.
Also, bookmarked.
Edit: Also Ratatoing and The Incredible Bulk. The latter gets pretty amazing near the end in what I call the "Stock Animation Chase Sequence".

Okay so going to start the bracket on Tuesday around 8 PM EDT. It will have 32 entries and each vote will last 2 days via a challonge link. This should mean we'll have the final 4 by Monday and the movies to watch on Wednesday. I'm going to make sure everyone has some of their films in the bracket and try to have a roughly equal distribution of submissions by person, as such if there are some films you'd rather see in a bracket sooner rather than later, notify me. Seeding will probably just be random since going through any attempt to rank films will probably be more effort than it's worth.

Hopefully everyone is fine with next Friday being the first night but I'll set up a doodle on Sunday just in case some other day works better for people (though I can't really do Saturday or Sunday regularly).

Now that I've had time to think on it, I got one more: Disaster Movie.

Oh, and Titanic, because I have to do SOMETHING decent.

Besides, if I didn't say it, someone else would.
