The origin of this variant seems to be the German Mafia website http://mafiaspiel.de. At least that is where I read about it.

Again, forgive me for not having many details to present to you guys, but would anybody be interested in a Command & Conquer mafia? It would be based on the Tiberium universe (and possible Red Alert and Generals in the future.) I would use GDI, Nod, and perhaps Scrin. Units, vehicles, and special ablilties will probably from throughout the whole series (though then again, I could base it only on one of the games.)View my new PC gaming blog at: http://poorpcgamer.blogspot.com- Untrod Tripod

I was thinking about posting restrictions while planning my current game, and I couldn't really think of a lot of reasons where they'd be distinctly appropriate, but I had some ideas for theme games.
How would this game tickle your fancies?
Poetry mafia (mini)
you are given a type of poem and you may only post in the form of that kind of poem
I had another, more fun idea, and that would be Author mafia, where everyone has an author they must post in the style of. Would anyone be interested in this? Would it be a better idea for everyone to pick a writer on their own and tell me who they would be writing like and I would assign alignments randomly, or would it be better if I picked writers for the players? What do you guys think?- Nobody Special

I strongly think that you should let the players choose their own writers. If I were to play, and you chose for me, (as an example), Harper Lee, I'd /out so fast your mockingbird would spin.
That said, I'd be totally up for this (down for it? you kids today) if it ever comes to fruition. Consider this a pre-in.- Untrod Tripod

My concern is that the whole posting restriction thing is kind of bunk if everyone picks someone who is like, a post 1950's writer.
My picks would be more like Philip K Dick, HP Lovecraft, Faulkner, Hemingway and Paul Gallico. Not Harper Lee, James Fennimore Cooper and Nat Hawthorne. I wouldn't pick people that write in a totally unfamiliar and impenetrable style. The idea would be to kind of get people out of their comfort zones and remove some of the meta reads from the game. Also it would make contributing a lot more fun, if you're into that sort of thing. Also I would want to pick authors of various styles. Poets, playwrights, prose, novelists, 1st person, 3rd person, comedy, horror, etc. I worry that if I let folks pick their authors, we would end up with an unfavorable and homogeneous collection of flavors.
Also there's the issue that I would want the authors to be a secret, and I wouldn't want to turn people's suggestions down for authors. Besides, if someone asks for, say, Stephen King and I have to say "nope, someone is already Stephen King", it gives some players a priori knowledge of people's roles (and possibly alignments). There are too many issues of players knowing what roles are already in the game, I think. I'm sure it could be worked out somehow.
Possible solutions:
a. Each player is given a few options for an author. If none of them work for that player, I could let them choose their own.
b. I have a pool of about 40 writers that everyone picks from- AurorusVox

Untrod, I would SO be down for that game, so if you ever run it, please let me know.
How about you let people choose their own, and then had some sort of criteria to judge it by, to determine whether you would let it be their official author or not (kind of subjective)? Or had everyone send in one or two (or even three) choices, and then you either distribute one of them randomly between the players or pick one of their selection for each player.
It's probably easier for the players to pick so that they actually have an idea of what sort of writer the person is. I'm sure some poor sap would send in Shakespeare or - god forbid - James Joyce :p

I've been trying to come up with ideas for either a Diablo, Peggle, Plants vs Zombies or Geometry Wars theme (not that I've ever modded anything, but I like thinking up ideas lol). The Diablo one worked out alright, the others...not so much.

Actually, I've just made a quick theme over The Wire;

Yeah that was the problem with them lol.
I have also finally come up with a Peggle idea though - every time you lynch scum, you get another lynch that day. Lynching a certain number of scum in a row gives you increasingly good PRs for one or more of those people on the scum wagon. Scum are mostly "orange", one of those is "pink" (it changes each lynch) which boost your PR level, and one is always "green" which gives you some sort of super PR if you lynch him, regardless of the combo line. Bonus points for going from a colour to a colour without hitting any blues :p
I have no idea if it's feasible, but I was imagining VTs make good "blues", and just seeing that little pinball bouncing off the scum made me chuckle >:)THE LEMON LIVES! - Cabd- Twomz

Would anyone be interested in aHouseof Leaves game? I'm sure there's been one run before, but I might try to run a mini theme if enough people show interest."It's not a logical inconsistency. I'm not one to go into casual games (don't like them; I prefer hardcore gaming.) But I know what Peggle is and have heard it's quite addicting. However, considering I'm still the hardcore gamer, I'd perfer Diablo.AurorusVox wrote:

@Aurorous: There was a Mafiascum Mafia Mafia game about 5 years ago... does that count (probably still one of my favorite games that I've been in)?
@ bv310: Unless I decide to bastard mod the fuck out of the game I wouldn't put Johnny or Zampano in it... it'd take place 'inside' theHouse."It's not a logical inconsistency. I'm still looking for some input on my large WWF theme game. Grimmy's on board now and I'd like at least one other person to bounce around ideas with, preferably someone who understands a bit about mechanics in large games and how to balance them. I've got a QT set up for discussion so anyone who would like to help out - even if it's just to suggest a cool idea you have - send me a PM and I'll give you the link.
For anyone who didn't see what my idea was the first time around, I'm planning a WWF/E Road to Wrestlemania themed game, naturally based around the run-up to Wrestlemania. Characters will probably be a mix of old and new wrestlers and the game rules will most likely be similar to Porkens' mini theme Royal Rumble game ie. BaM ruleset (or similar), word count restrictions on posts and the use of wrestling moves for votes. If ya smell what The Locke is cookin'!

Would anyone be interested in a game that allows dead players to talk after death? It would be called something like Dead Men Tell Tales, about 9 players or so. Upon lynch/night kill the player loses their ability to vote and their night ability (if anything), but can still try to scumhunt and participate in discussion. Roles would be fairly normal, such as doc, mafia roleblocker, etc., and the main goal is to keep players actively participating for the duration of the game, (though they will not be prodded or replaced unless they ask to be).- Narsis

wouldn't that give the town an advantage? i highly doubt a dead and outed scum would continue to post anything.smashbro_of_the_SSS wrote:Would anyone be interested in a game that allows dead players to talk after death?
