My current list:
Champs I am competent with:
Maokai
Caitlyn (somewhat)
Nasus
Nunu (Jungle only)
Udyr (though I'm extremely rusty with him)
Champs I want to improve with:
Caitlyn
Sona
Brand
Veigar
Blitz
Nidalee
Master Yi (Jungling)
If I get in a game with any of you and am not playing one of these champs, remind me of this thread. I want to diversify who I am able to successfully play as, and I won't do that by trying to play every champ.- Mastermind of Sin

S2Nome wrote:Disclaimer: First thing I should point out here is that this is not an attack on League of Legends, but an attack on the poor reasoning I have seen many users, from both HoN and LoL, employ. Second thing is that I am personally FOR denying; this post was made simply to spark discussion. Denying is an integral part of HoN, and will never be removed. I wouldn’t want it to be! With that out of the way, let’s begin.
I actually did read the article, and I don't really agree with what it says. I actually feel that the deny mechanic is a copout that *discourages* PvP play. If I could just sit back and kill my own creeps before the other team can, what incentive do I have to zone them? This is where I feel LoL's decision to remove denying has been most effective. Instead of denying, players now have to actually interact with the other team directly, pushing them away from the creep waves so that they cannot get close enough to get XP as your team's creeps are killed by the opposing wave. I think this takes a lot more skill than denying, because deny is just a last-hit mechanical skill that you can practice over and over, whereas zoning is actually a something that takes strategy and critical thinking to accomplish. Any zombie can deny creeps if they have practiced enough. You could theoretically create a machine that watches creep health and last hits every creep in its wave perfectly. It would be much more difficult to create a machine that could correctly read the opponents moves and maneuver to zone them out of XP. Therefore, I don't see how the deny mechanic adds a desirable aspect to any game, since removing it actually increases the amount of competition between players.Permanent V/LA.- Mastermind of Sin

Ankamius wrote:I main almost every ranged carry and I tend to run Flash+Ignite on the majority of them. Why? Because I'm stuck at the 1150 level and I have to completely dominate my lane. If I don't, I can't carry people. I do run Ghost/Flash on Ashe, but that's only because she has absolutely 0 escapes.
When I play in-houses with my team (and holy shit is it competitive. I would estimate the skill level we tend to play at as around 1500-1700), I generally play the odd role out that my team needs.
My skill with champs in general is:
Ranged AD > Support > AP Carry > Tanky DPS > Tank > Jungle
EDIT: The only champions I have yet to play are Brand and Orianna. I know very well how every single champion works and every viable method of building them.
I feel that ghost is a better spell than flash. I usually run ghost + teleport on Ashe, because full map arrows are the shit. For most of my other ranged carries I use ghost + ignite/exhaust, with the exception of Brand, who needs the flash to set up his stun skill shot.Permanent V/LA.- Mastermind of Sin

I used to play a lot of Tristana, before moving on to Poppy, and facerolling.
I can play a junglewick, jungle/lane yi, and I'm okay with most ranged Carries.
I tend to fail horribly as tanks/tanky-DPS, so need to improve that area of my game.ShowHe'sbaaa-aaack

Meh. there are particular reasons I have things my way, although I've seen a lot of other combos work well. It's more of a personal preference. The reason I pick Ghost/Flash on Ashe is because she has aHUGEreliance on positioning relative to the ability she has to relocate herself. The only ranged AD champion (Kog'Maw is ranged AP, sorry) that has a higher reliance than her is Miss Fortune, and that's primarily because of her ultimate. Having both Ghost and Flash makes her specific role (as a utility-based initiating kiting carry) much more effective than without. I've had to learn positioning throughout the first several months of my playing league, so I naturally put it as my highest priority outside of farming well.
As for Ghost over Flash, I don't like it for a few reasons. Generally, the champions that are able to directly get on top of you and kill you also have slows or a way to keep you in place. If it's Xin, then Ghost probably isn't going to get you away. Flash will. You can also tower dive and use flash to escape, flash out of Jarvan IV's ult, etc.
Ghost is better for kiting; I definitely agree there. I just find Flash to have more uses inside an actual teamfight to stay alive, which is why I take it on every ranged carry.
For mages, it depends a lot upon the champions. Flash/Ignite is a nobrainer on Annie. Flash/Ignite is a nobrainer on Malzahar. Flash/Clairvoyance is great on Morgana. Flash/Teleport is excellent on Kennen if you have a team that can place enough wards. It's far too dependent on the champ in question to accurately give a "best" setup for a group.- Nightson

When you're just starting out in LoL you don't want to switch around champions, you want to focus on one till you can use all their moves fairly proficiently, then you branch out and try other champions."Faust complained about having two souls in his breast, but I harbor a whole crowd of them and they quarrel. There's no real point to build AD on him. You don't build straight AP either, but his primary source of damage is AP.
I'd say hybrid. About half of his damage comes from physical right click damage, and about half of it comes from physical magic damage. Aka, his w, madreds, wits end. People don't realize that you actually get around a bf's sword worth of damage from a madreds. (Pickaxe + regular madreds razor).Untrod Tripod (7:27:18 PM): you enjoy whoring

I have a small stable of champs I'm competent with who I rotate through, I also don't like playing the same champ for many games in a row.
Roughly in order of how good I am at each character: Amumu, Maokai, Lux, Caitlyn, Sivir, Morgana, Tristana, Master Yi
In terms of skill sets, I probably go Tank -> AP Carry -> AD Carry -> Jungle -> Support
I have spent zero dollars and have one whole skin thanks to the free RP Riot gave out after some outage or another.- Chronopie

On Kog. I'd say he's more a magic oriented DPS than a ranged AP DPS.
My full Kog build generally includes:
Madred's Bloodrazor - 30 AD + 4% enemy max HealthMagic Damage
Malady - MR shred +Magic damage
Wits End - 42Magic Damage
and my other items are usually Zerks, Frozen Mallet, and Banshees Veil
So it's magic damage dealing DPS items, rather than AP items.
Taking into account his W deals %based magic damage too, M.Pen is a viable rune choice. Between his W and the MBR, you get 10% enemy health per hit, + your AD + your [wits end + malady] procs.ShowHe'sbaaa-aaack

I think my skill sets lie in the support and tank areas more than anything else. I'm a pretty good Mao and a pretty good Zil most of the time, as long as I can aim my cursor accurately (need a mouse, not a trackpad). I want to try jungling, but I have been advised by several people not to bother until I can get runes for it at level 20. I've also tried out a few carries, both AP and AD. I think I like AD ones better, typically, such as Teemo, or Noc (though he's more hybrid, probably) since I like being able to eat towers alive and waste enemy champs without huge mana use / necessity to purchase mana-building items.Current Avatar: Kronk. Why spend 250 $ on a average game when you could have a better one for only 30$ ? Masochism or plain attraction for everything new and shiny ?
It's almost as high as playing WoW ...

Because obviously LoL games are very ganking oriented. That's why every team has a jungler and that the sole concept of roamer is beyond your imagination. LoL would be a great game for chinese DotA team, I wonder when they will enter and completely crush the scene by ricing all game long.
Removing the mechanics of denying was a good idea but it wasn't followed with satisfactory results because PvP wasn't encouraged. Even the low (understatement) on skills isn't sufficient to promote a fast pace laning. I have been watching *aAa* stream lately (certainly a top 5 team) and it's all about mind games and less about fighting. You may consider that this is better but eSports are here for entertainment and nothing else. And frankly zoning isn't interesting, kills are.- scotmany12

Gosh, it's almost as if he wants to support the devs for making a free game! It's almost as if that's LoL's business model!

Okay, that's bullshit right there.
a) there are several Chinese/SEA teams, including two at the Season One finale at Dreamhack, and theyfarfrom dominate the scene.
b) There are champions such as Janna, Alistar and Evelynn who are played as roamers, for several different reasons - Janna can fly around the map, is largely non-creep gold dependent, and can afford to spend more gold on wards and covering solo lanes. Alistar can push hard with his AoE heal, passive and tankiness. Evelynn roaming forces every lane to spend 125 gold on their lane ward instead of 75, and forces at least the tank and usually the off-tank too to buy Oracle's, as well as being an excellent way to initiate and smash down a glass-cannon carry.

Right, because watching Chronos or similar heroes farm in a trilane or neutrals for 35 minutes and then 1v5 an entire team for a gg is SO MUCH MORE FUN than a 40 minute game of LoL where Baron will be fought over at least once, several fights will take place at inhibitors towards lategame...-

I can't even tell what Otolia is trying to say, but it looks like he's trying to say that a jungler+roamer aren't the meta right now and that it should be.
EDIT: I epic failed my wording. My meaning was that jungler+roamer is the current high ELO meta, and that Otolia is saying it isn't and should be.Last edited by Ankamius on Fri Jun 10, 2011 10:39 am, edited 1 time in total.- TheButtonmen

Uh.
A) Not every team has a dedicated jungler.
B) Roamers are incredibly common, watch any decently skilled game with a Eve, Allistar, Janna, Poppy, Katrina, Xin, Teemo and there is other heros that can roam depending on team comp.Routine day with a dirt cheap brush
