Right, because watching Chronos or similar heroes farm in a trilane or neutrals for 35 minutes and then 1v5 an entire team for a gg is SO MUCH MORE FUN than a 40 minute game of LoL where Baron will be fought over at least once, several fights will take place at inhibitors towards lategame...

If you see a chronos in a comp game, then it's not a comp game. The only picked melee carry is Maliken (Hammerstorm is played as a support) If you want to have an accurate view of what top HoN is about you should really watch the Bo5 of MSI vs. DskB (Silhouette has been nerfed)

What is there to debate? People gave counterpoints to what the dude said, but as far as I can tell you never really addressed them.

Man I got trolled so hard that game. Playing ryze, laning against fiddle. They three man gank me not once, not twice but thrice before level 10. Then our tristana in top lane is 8-0-8 so they all buy forces of nature to counter the only magic damage in the team - me. The fiddle ults into four of us simply because I'm low. THEY HATE ME

I love playing Brand. Take mid, get a kill or two, get ganked by jungler and so get two kills, roam around and get more kills, have 15 soulstealer stacks at 20 mins when the surrender.

Co-op games vs. the beginner AI are your friend. A custom game with just you and an intermediate bot mid will help you learn how to solo lane without having to worry about ganking or other interference. Like everyone in this thread has said multiple times, get the basic mechanics of last-hitting, zoning and lane control down first, then worry about the big picture stuff like wards, buff and river creep control, etc. Ultimately, though, no substitute for having to carry a team of completely silent retards in your first match.

But yeah, pick one or two champs to start with, then expand from there. I'm a fan of someone like Renekton or Garen for a beginner, since they can take a lot of punishment. Irelia's also a good choice for tankiness.

I find ranged champs to be good for newbies, as they don't have to get right up next to the minions to last hit for gold. Keeps them a bit further away from the enemy champions while still getting the gold they need. Someone like Ashe is very simple for newbies. Also, Tristana, due to the fact that you can get her for free through facebook and not have to hope that she's in the free champ rotation.
