An important lesson to take away from this can be gotten by looking at my build/score and looking at Veigar's build/score. If you are an incredibly bursty caster type (like Veigar),

do not blow your entire arsenal on the tank Nocturne with a FoN and a QSS every fight

. They could have easily won that at that stage because Veigar could have insta-gibbed any other person on our team. Instead, Veigar blew all his CDs into me every fight (which is how he got so many assists; we lacked a good initiate beyond me yellin stuff about darkness and jumping on someone) and we just beat their faces in.

How do you recover as amumu when the enemy team steals your blue?
I lucked out in my last game because our Wukong and Irelia were bauwse as fuck and carried us but I started off without blue since we were invaded 5v2 in our jungle and I decided that Nidalee and Amumu isn't enough to counter Jax Kat Amumu Nocturne Twitch so I left it as opposed to trying to steal blue and then dying.

The result was me floundering around in our jungle securing creeps in possibly the least efficient way I know how as amumu (golems, wraiths, wolves, b)
Like, wtf do you do at that point lol?
It turned out fine in the end, I was just lucky that Nocturne took his superior path and stayed in his jungle until 6.

Recovering from blue theft as amumu is roughly the same as recovering from counterjungling as any jungler. You're missing two things - firstly, a sustainable source of mana, and secondly you're missing an important source of experience. As a result, the jungle itself will be stronger than you're accustomed to.

The key is twofold - firstly in your runes and masteries, and secondly in how you respond. The more defensive your jungle page, the more leeway you leave yourself in terms of how much health you end the jungle with on a normal route, the easier it will be to recover from counterjungling. I run a very tanky amumu page, specifically because he has some issues with blue theft (and also because his role is primary tank heh.) If you want to profile stalk me, the page is called magicbruisermark2. My masteries are 1-17-11.

(Philo stone openings can still recover perfectly fine from counterjungling, but it is a bit harder. I tend to start cloth/5 pots)

Ideally if you KNOW you are going to lose your blue, the optimal skill to take level 1 is tantrum, not despair. As a result, wait til the last second before leveling up - if you see the enemies in lane, you can just go ahead and take despair. If you see them invading, tantrum is actually stronger in a level 1 teamfight anyway - but it will mess up your jungling a bit if you just take it. I take despair first 99/100 times.

If you have despair, start your jungle at the little golems. Kill them without using smite, take wraiths (smiting the big wraith), wolves. This will use up all your mana and you'll be level 3. Bluepill, get some items (w/e, it doesn't really matter) and start taking the small camps again. Te key to recovering from the loss of a big exp camp like blue buff is taking the small camps - many junglers do these routes as a matter of course anyway. You need to be hitting these camps as they respawn, just farming farming farming. Its pretty key at this point that you dont gank until you're firmly established back into the game again - level 5 or so is a good rule of thumb (after the second clear) - it's honestly acceptable, though, to not gank until you have your ult in this situation as amumu. A failed gank will put you even further behind, and since you're underleveled to start with is more likely to fail anyway. If someone needs to bluepill early and you get to hold their lane and take a bit of exp, that's pretty much all you need to be back in the game in and of itself.

If you have tantrum, do roughly the same thing but start at wraiths, smiting the big one. From here take wolves, golems and bluepill.

You also need to manage mana appropriately given you dont have blue buff. Dont spam despair against little camps - its a very mana inefficient spell, and will leave you dry pretty quickly if you're leaving it on while fighting, say, wraiths. Keep it for buff camps and maybe little golems. If you really need to, a mana pot or two is not a bad investment, but remember you're already behind and the investment of gold is another half a creep camps worth, so be sure you really need it before you buy it.

I can't watch the replay since I'm on a Mac, but from the sound of it I didn't handle it too poorly.
I ganked at level 4 but there were already 2 mid and I was in the area so I figured I could help and I did.

I ended up running 1/21/8 that game in masteries and my basic Mpen/armor/Mres/Flat AP rune page

We were literally 3 to 20 and had lost 3 of our outer turrets with them losing none of theirs.
It was looking absolutely abysmal.

Jax and Nasus laned together, fed GP and Lee sin, me and akali had top, and didn't really get any kills, but didn't feed.

Graves got raped by leblanc mid. He was 0/9 a little bit after the laning phase.

Jax tried to surrender 3 times, the rest of us all said no.
I didn't really believe we *were* going to win, but I wanted to at least try.

And then suddenly, Our Nasus started doing what nasus does, late-game raping.

And then suddenly we were getting kills, and pushing towers.

It was about 10 to 40 by the time we started doing better.

Then we got baron (they had already gotten baron once... and we had also missed out on 3 dragons, finally got 1 dragon towards the end)

We made a ridiculous come back.

It was awesome.

Really? I'm pretty surprised that there's not a single ap carry you would enjoy apart from cassie. AP carries in this game are by far the best designed and most diverse class of characters; pure point and click nukers (annie, malz, leblanc...), aoe specialists (Annie, Brand, Gragas, fiddlesticks...), lane dominance (cassie, brand...), skillshot dependent (lux, gragas, cassie, brand...), frontline bruiser mages (swain, ryze, rumble, morgana...), spammy champs (cassie, ryze...), early game (leblanc...), late game (veigar, karthus...) They can be highly mobile like kassadin and leblanc. They can be sustained damage like heimer or burst damage like veigar. They can be high utility or low utility. Short or long range. All the ap carries are distinct, unique and 90% of them are viable.

AP CARRIES: akali, anivia, annie, brand, cassie, fiddles, galio (can be built that way), gragas, heimer, janna (can be built that way), karma, karthus, kassadin, katarina, kennen, leblanc, lux, malzahar, mordekaiser (can be built that way), morgana, nidalee, orianna, poppy (can be built that way), rumble, ryze, sion, swain, twisted fate, veigar, vladimir, xerath, zilean

Of those champs, you'd only play 2?

Hmmm. I don't like Anivia, Annie, Katarina, Nidalee, Ryze, Twisted Fate, Veigar, Xerath, or Zilean.

I do like Morgana and Kassadin, but generally Morgana gets banned/picked before I can get to her, and Kassadin isn't fun enough to warrant me purchasing him.

I tried Galio/Akali back in the day when I was still really low level and terrible, so maybe they deserve another shot.

The rest of them I just haven't played.
