You can gank from the riverbush, it really doesn't take much brainpower to realize that in his kit of 3 abilities you only need 2 to gank.

The only time I've taken E before 13 in the last few months was as lane Skarner v Cass. Only took one point for the sustain. >_>

You need a champion with hard CC to really complement him well, and if your mid laner or top laner don't have any CC, tough shit, unless the enemy just SUPER overextends. I did buy sheen, actually. I was just underwhelmed with him. I think he is outclassed by a lot of other champions who do exactly what he does, only better (Maokai comes to mind).

I don't really think Skarners kit and Maos are remotely comparable.

Mao has a minor knockback, a 1.5-2.5 second root, a sapling "Free ward" and the ult shield/damage after the fact. Passive heals after x spellcasts
Skarner's passive is a CD reduction, q is a aoe damage+slow, w is a shield+move speed buff, e is a health boon on kill, and ult is a 2+ second suppression

They aren't remotely close, Skarner is FAR better about shutting someone down. Both have their uses. its really team comp dependent.
