if you don't think you can make better decisions with more information, you don't have to ward.

Remember the tournament I casted last weekend? One of the prizes was scrimming a pro team.

I'll be live, casting the 2nd place finishers (My Little Pony) vs. Velocity eSports, in about an hour and 45 minutes.

http://twitch.tv/lrss0

I'm also now a casting coach for LRSS, so anyone who's ever had the interest in casting but never had the chance, please let me know and I will do everything I can to try to get you on-air.

Also if you are bot-lane and on the
blue
purple team, you prooooobably dont need that many wards if you are playing well.

IMO wards in the lane bushes are most important in that case.

Edit: purple.

What? If you're on the purple side, that Tri bush is super important to you.

On blue side you need to ward river and maybe tri. If your mid or jungle doesn't ward on bot side, the jungler can sneak around behind dragon pit and jump on you from behind. If you don't have a ward there it's a guaranteed kill.

On purple you need a ward in both river and tri.

On both sides you might need a ward in the side-brush instead of river if they have a jungler that can jump over the wall into the brush like shaco, sejuani, or jarvan. Also, if you are pushed to your turret, then the river ward is less important, and it might actually be dangerous to ward there. However, you do give up dragon control, but if you are pushed to turret bot lane you've probably lost that dragon control in anyway.

I'm starting to think that warding around red against super ganky mids on blue side is a really good idea. Mid laners can completely bypass river and tri-bush wards pretty easily if your mid laner isn't keeping the jungle entrance warded.

Plus it helps against invasions.

I HAVE NO "CONTRACT" OR COMMITMENT SAYING I DO.
You actually do. It's called the Summoner's Code. When you sign in to the client, you agree to follow("commit" to following) the rules, which includes not leaving during a game.

On wards, if you can't beat the guy in front of you 1v1, placing wards is only going to set you back farther. Freeze the lane just outside of turret range and try your best to keep it there until you need to back, and play safe so the guy who is better mechanically can't kill you on top of out-farming you. If you're winning your lane and pushing it, then you should be warding. Just saying "buy and place a shit load of wards" is terrible advice. This obviously doesn't go for supports or junglers. Junglers need to ward objectives so the team as a whole doesn't fall behind, and supports need to ward because it's one of the few things they can do to protect the most important(and probably squishiest) player on the team.

If the enemy jungler is playing Maokai, Jarvan IV, or another similar type of jungler, you have no business not warding.

Here you're assuming a specific condition that makes your opinion right. (sort of)
If you're winning your lane and pushing it, then you should be warding.
Here you're agreeing warding is helpful.
Just saying "buy and place a shit load of wards" is terrible advice.
And no one ever said this.

I understand your perspective where all this theory crap we talk about in this thread isn't as important as just
being better
than the person you're playing against and I agree, but when the question is "what can I do to be better" saying "get better" isn't good advice either. There are right and wrong times to ward and good and bad ways to do it. I don't think anyone was trying to say otherwise. But if we're just talking about basic things a person should know about the game to improve, I still think using wards is good advice, and beats the hell out of never using them.

In post 21570, CF Riot wrote:3. Wards, Wards, Wards: Buy them. Use them. Wards give vision of the map which give control and keep you safe. Not only that, they keep your idiot team mates safe! Wards in bushes and high traffic areas can give you the advance warning to avoid a gank, prevent you from walking into a bush filled with opponents, or help you spot an enemy out of position that you may be able to pick off. Wards near objectives like jungle buffs, Dragon and Baron will let your team respond appropriately if your enemies make a move. You should encourage the person in the support role to provide many of the wards during the game, but realistically every player has the opportunity to buy them and you will find the impact they provide is well worth the small cost of 75 gold.

They don't always keep you safe, it takes at least two wards to keep any lane safe, so 150 per 3 minutes. If you are losing lane 1v1, playing a way in which your opponent can skimp on wards, or playing against a jungler who can dodge wards then this means the wards just set you back and didn't help you. They hardly ever keep your idiot teammates safe, cause your idiot teammates are probably not looking at the map, not in a spot where it helps yoour other laners that much, and/or losing 1v1. Also how many times has a member of you team went to ward a bush cause people might be standing in it and died/gotten your team killed because people were standing in it? It's much more effective to just pack a champ that can bush check. How many times have you warded an objective and your team ignores it while it is taken while you have vision? I'm not saying wards aren't helpful. I'm saying there are a lot of situations in which wards aren't helping you and the better you and your team is, the better. Wards don't help bad players, and a lot of times they hurt them. Paying 75/125/150 gold to die anyway or give up the objective anyway is worse then not warding.

If you don't consider yourself an idiot and you look at the map, then make really damn sure your team knows.

Mid pings Top to be careful
An Ally has been Slain
Top: Hey mid why didn't you call mia?
Mid: I did and I pinged.

This sound familiar? I'm pretty sure every one in thread has had this happen to them hundreds of times.
