I don't own Hecarim, and that wouldn't help even if I did.

I don't feel like Zed has counterplay because all he does is poke you until you're at about 75% hp then all-ins you and kills you. You can't beat him in anall-in with ANYTHING.

His earlygame is complete bullshit, his midgame is bullshit, his towerkilling is bullshit, his assassinating is bullshit, his waveclear is bullshit, etc. And to top it off it's impossible to cc him because shadows need to be on a 1 minute cooldown at least with the bonus AD it has.

I remember beating him with Malz a lot but I don't recommend him as a straight counter. I just was tanky enough to take the poke and had enough poke myself to make my all in more threatening.

Plus I was pretty quick about putting my aoe down along with ult if he jumped on me.

You can deny zed kills, but you cant really counter him. Just make sure he cant peace lane and he will fall off late

I think Vlad is really strong into Zed. You can sustain through or match his harass, his range is short enough that he can't zone you out of cs very well, and you can press W to ruin his ult. If he pushes and roams, you can counter-push really quickly. If he's not ahead by level 7, you start to outscale. Playing Vlad into AD also lets you build an early Zhonya's comfortably, which is both what Vlad wants anyway for another round or two of spells each team fight (if you also rush 40% CDR) and yet-another way to ruin his ult.

Akali, Lissandra and Lee probably work as well, but I dont play them much.

Anyone who can reliably disengage or counter-engage him can do fine and make it a skill matchup.

Annie works well against Zed. Annie works well against everything.
Her shield allows you to avoid a lot of his damage, and if you build RoA first he'll never be able to burst you. Just make sure you don't try to stun him with Q or he'll dodge it with his ult and you'll be fucked.

Regarding counterplay, in addition to building whatever item is appropriate to counter his ult (Zhonya/QSS for AP/AD), you can dodge his non-ult abilities.

I think if I had a better sense of his cooldowns I could harass him more in lane and do even better, but I feel like against a typical Zed I can basically never take advantage of his weakness windows as Vlad and still go even and then outscale.

The main issue is always if he pushes and roams, everyone ignores the missing ping, and he gets a double kill in botlane.

I feel like as Annie you should just keep your stun up and he'll never engage.

tbh I've never really had a problem vs Zed even as something like Lux b/c there's only so much he can do

like

as long as you aren't completely stupid and constantly let him w-e-q over and over again there's pretty much no reason for you to lose health vs Zed as a ranged champ

he has nothing but Q at level 1
he has nothing but W and Q at level 2
he has too little damage with rank 1 E at level 3
He has to wait until level 4 to reliably try to kill anyone

His earlygame is only less horrible than say, Talon's in mid

Living Shadow has a 18s CD at rank 1, which will stay that way until level 13 or so. Gonna be around +-14s with CDR?
It lasts 4s. You have a minimum of 10 seconds of no W when you see that shadow disappear.
That's 4 seconds out of 14 that he can effectively pose a threat to someone standing out of melee range.

Talon's early game is not amazing, but it's hardly horrible.
If you know how to manage your engages, slow and gap-closer at level 2 is strong.
