Not Allowed to View online list

I am not allowed to view 'who is online' list. Is this a bug or something else?

It's disabled for everyone, as it was showing people that were posting in private topics.

It was originally disabled BEFORE private topics even existed. It's a creepy feature to be able to see exactly how everyone is spending their time.
