Honestly, I had very few preconceived notions.

I did expect the mafia to attempt to exploit the private messages/extra powers more than they did (perhaps lying about role information when one of the scum received dead player's role and/or not admitting it when they wound up with an extra ability,
especially
the added message one) -- but they seemed as nervous about the set-up as the town did and I guess were worried about being caught out. Might have been better if I gave them full disclosure of how the powers worked, but I'm not sure that wouldn't have unbalanced things.

I laughed every time the subjects of perma-blocking/cult existence/message-stealing came up. To my thinking, the set-up was very vanilla but limited set-up information + intelligent speculation = entertaining reading.

I think we all saw the altered, unknown mechanics as a problem rather than an opportunity. I certainly did.
