Mini Theme Queue Stats! (YAY, WOO, CHEER)
I have calculated some quick stats for the speed of the Mini Theme Queue since my tenure. The stats start with Mini 1802. This game was the first game not to be a carry over from the end of Equinox's tenure as Listmod. We will be looking at three things. The time it takes for a game to enter sign-ups and be filled, the time in takes for a Mod to enter the queue and the game to enter sign-ups, and the overall time from a Mod entering the queue and the game filling. To make these calculations I simply took the date in which the post was made with no respect to hours. Games that entered the queue or sign-ups but were pulled before completion, or were never assigned a number, were not counted.
Sign-Up Speed
39 games were surveyed from June 7th, 2016 to January 15th, 2017. Games take an average of
9.1
days to fill from sign-ups start to finish with a minimum of 1 day, a max of 35 days, and a median of 8 days. 6 times a game has filled within 1 day.
Game Queue Speed
35 games were surveyed from June 7th, 2016 to January 3rd, 2017. Minis 1807, 1818, 1856, and 1863 were not included in the data set because their games were delayed artificially at some point. Mods take an average of
25.9
days to enter sign-ups after entering the queue, with a minimum of 4 days, a maximum of 57 days, and a median of 20 days.
Overall Speed
32 games were surveyed from June 7th, 2016 to January 3rd, 2017. Minis 1807, 1818, 1856, and 1863 were not included in the data set because their games were delayed artificially at some point. Games take an average of
35.1
days from entering the queue to filling, with a minimum of 12 days, a maximum of 70 days, and a median of 32 days.
Keep in mind that since I am rounding to the nearest day, and sometimes artificial delays are created with my timing, I would arbitrarily put the margin of error at 1.5.
Comments
I'd like to improve on two numbers. I'd like to reduce the amount of time a game is in sign-ups to less than a week, and the amount of time start to finish for a game from a Mod signing up to a game filling to less than a month.
I had to pull a couple of games from the queue for not filling, and I let two games go past the 21 day deadline I have set. I think I need to be more diligent in pulling games when they reach that deadline. Most games don't take more than 15 days to fill. Only 6 out of the 39 took more time. This suggests that I can even lower that deadline to speed up the queue a little bit. Omitting games that take more than 15 days to fill drops the average speed of the queue to 6.6 days.
Our best period was over the summer in July, where games took ~4.5 days to fill, and were only in the queue from start to finish for ~20 days. From the end of Sept to the beginning of Nov the queue was backed up the most. As I recall many games were in the queue at that time, and games took ~58.5 days from start to finish. This is likely due to 10 games signing up in a 32 day period from Aug 1 to Sept 3. Filling speed got a little towards the high end of two weeks at the end of Oct during this period as well. These periods were also likely the height of me artificially delaying things as I was v/la multiple times during those stretches.
Discussion Time
At this time I will invite any open discussion about these stats if you'd like. To make things easy on me, if you plan on signing up for a game currently in the queue, please do that in a separate post from any comments you have.
Additionally I'd like to put the call out for some help with two projects related to this queue. The first project is getting the Mini Theme archives up to date. This project also includes updating the third post of this queue. I am not super organized, and there's a bit of work to be done. PM me if you're interested in being an organization monkey.
The second project is a statistic related project. While I could probably do some other helpful stats for the queue, I know there are users way better at math then I am. PM me if you think you're good at advanced statistical types of things.
I'll also be doing end of game surveys again, keep an eye out for that.
