Mod Notes


First and foremost, I had a really good time moderating this game, so thank you to everyone again. I'm going to run through what I thought was good, what I thought was bad, and a few other things.

Replacements
: This really, really hurt. I had to replace twenty (!) players over the course of this game, and this is not an easy game to replace into. If I run a game of this complexity again, I will have to insist on more established players. Speaking of which,

Complexity
: The original idea behind this game is to give everyone something to do, but make every action "imperfect" in some way - Investigates are good, but hard to pull off; Research is good but you go crazy too; Resuscitates are good, but the person you save goes insane and you're bloody; Wards are good, but they only block weak attacks and prevent you hearing Noise; and the ever-present, ambiguous "Noise" that helps the scum cover themselves and heighten tension. Some players found it difficult to scumhunt the traditional way, and I think that is a flaw in this game.

Even simple things like the phrasing of "Equip" confused many players - they already had Occult Books, but wanted to know if they had to Equip them before they could use them. Perhaps "Fetch" would have been a better name.

The fact that you can be "confirmed" via Blood was actually a strategy I assumed the scum would pick up on - in a desperate situation, resuscitate your ritual target and you've just bought yourself a lot of towncred, or just resuscitate your scumbuddy! It swings both ways, of course. Scum should also have equipped RKs - the day after you hear Noise, it's too late!

I'm glad people noticed Chaos, which was a late addition to the game after reading about the "Texas Solution". As far as I know, there isn't a breaking strategy for this game (I crunched hard!), but I'd be happy to hear someone's take on one.

would love to play a game like this, but the complexity was difficult/overwhelming for some players. I think if I ever run it again (and I do intend to), I'll tweak a few things and write a "Player's Guide to Stars Aligned" before the game starts.

Modkills
: I had to do two of these. The first, Knight of Cydonia, came after he threatened to reveal the names of his Cultist buddies. I couldn't even take that chance; misrepresenting a conversation with me was minor, but I didn't want to make his alignment clear. This sucked, as I honestly thought no-one would pick Traitor, and was interested in seeing how it would go, especially with KoC at the helm.

The second was Kise. Insanity Infraction counts were intended to make sure people didn't just take Insanities and ignore them. Twitchy was too onerous in this regard (as it came up every post), thus the signature rule change late in game. I liked the Insanity as it was both public and possible to fake, but I might remove it next game.

Insanity Spread
: Hallucination was the only Insanity that wasn't taken, and I think that's awesome. I'm glad each Insanity appealed to different people.

Murderers
: I was quite shocked at the number of Murderers - I assumed most players would understand just how hard it was to win as a murderer, and I'm further assuming that most players thought "OOH, SK!".

It was also a bit of a shame to see so much scum crosskilling going on, and I think making you wait until your third Insanity to choose Psychopathy (the optimal play, as others have pointed out) may dissuade some people.

Lynches
: Town were amazing. I couldn't believe that there wasn't a single mislynch. Well done!

Flavour
: I'm glad you guys enjoyed it. I didn't get through half of the plot I had planned, so I'll have to save that for another time.

Let's see:

I messed up claiming to Ward RestFermata rather than Res him. That was a slip on my part, though the not matching RestFermata up to Exalt on the noise list was true.

n0, I went with the assumption that a large spread of fetishes would be more useful than grabbing equipment. I'd recommend to the next scum group to go with 2/3 fetish and 1/3 res kit. I simply did not expect 3 stalkings the first night.

I think that if the semioldguy ritual had gone through, things would've been quite different. That right there gave the town two clears (Pablo and looker), with semioldguy either a clear or a half clear, depending upon how you look at it. It probably still would've been a town win, I think it just would've taken longer.

But town not mislynching a single time was pretty impressive. Honestly, I probably cursed you all for that more than anything. =P

Seriously guys, why me? :(

I loved this game for the little that I played of it. I wanted to kill Mastin so I could set up a policy-vig claim later (as I think I breadcrumbed to a bit). I also didn't want him around since long posts = flakage for me most of the time, which was something I didn't want. So yeah.

Town kicked ass. I would applaud, but I converted N1, so yeah. =\

It was an interesting design but I got drowned by all the talk of, "I did this last night," and "We need to match actions with insanity claims." Great game, Percy. Very well thought out, and original.
They have escaped into the mansion where they thought it was safe.

This. *I* was screwed since Night Zero. (My playstyle certainly didn't help, nor the fact that I had flaked, nor the fact that I was overextended, nor the fact that...well, you get the idea. I was incredibly anti-EVERYTHING [no benefit to ANY alignment], it's probably for the better.)
Erik was also screwed day one.

Two down.
Losing the others, however, now that, was really bad. I knew I was a walking corpse, as being cult, I KNEW that I was stalked N0. I was hoping that maybe, just maybe, I could use this to help them, to attract attention to myself. (I think, anyway. 'Twas months ago; I don't remember what exactly I was thinking at the time. But that's what I think I was doing.)

Also, I did nothing N0 somewhat intentionally--I wanted to play the game as if I were a vanilla, 'cause I really didn't want to deal with all that investigator stuff. I figured that doing nothing was the safest claim of all.
I knew day one was coming to an end, so I had a catchup post prepared, but flaked before being able to post it. (The primary purpose of said post was to further Erick's lynch and hope the heck that Zwet would come off looking MUCH better. Or, maybe, *I* would be lynched, *WITH* Zwet, cast suspicion on pro-town players, and spare the much-better Erick.
Either would've helped, but I doubt I would've succeeded.)



I'm definitely counting this game as a failure for me. I know I am capable of good scumhunting. (I did particularly well when I replaced in at Lylo, in one case.) I wouldn't know about faking scum hunting, but probably not (I have yet to win a single game as scum without SERIOUS aid from my scum partner...), so definitely a failure. I just suck that badly. :/

You could have still crafted fetishes and claimed to have done nothing. Also, I really HATED your claiming a list of scum on D1. As soon as you died, your entire scumteam was doomed. If I ever see that in a game I am in I will ask the mod to force replace you or replace me, because I will not stay in a game with that. I also HATED KoC's same idea. I am glad the mod killed him.

I really would've enjoyed this game more had I been in it at the beginning :/
