Hush.
You made my mini have 100 pages DAY ONE! We used to be impressed by 100 page games. The whole thing.
YOU SHOULD BE CONFINED TO MICROS.

Was aiming to be in whichever filled first, and it seems Oddrole may well fill tonight, don't want to screw things up if both fill overnight and I have to replace out of one before it even starts.

Aww, be nice to Gin. He was the biggest offender, but it was pretty much everyone. At least Gin kinda nailed the scumteam.

I don't get what she's talking about, I made a Large she played in less than 150 pages :igmeou:

Yeah, but what you're not understanding is that a few years ago, 150 pages would have been one of the all-time longest games. Rolling In The Deep (NY142) was in the 160s or something (a bunch of the pages were eaten in the Great Tiger Attack of '11-'12 - CONSTANT VIGILANCE) and it was I think second longest for a while. Its D1 lasted 84 pages, and was briefly THE longest day on record.

Now, those numbers are unremarkable. A large game's D1 hits 100 pages as often as not, and no one blinks if it tops 200 pages by the end of the game. Now there are D1s that are as long as those epic old games, and some games are topping 500 pages. They're also getting faster paced. Anyone who's been around a while will tell you that most of the really talented older players have been drifting away from the site, or restricting themselves to semi-invitational games like Camn's Revenge.

I have a much longer manifesto about this, and I'm designed a massive large game with an eye towards combating these unhealthy trends.

This is prob not the thread to debate or talk about this, so I'll keep it brief.

I think the recent trend is due to 2 factors:

- Individual game posts are much shorter now. So while it may seem like a page is hitting a huge number of pages unheard of in old timers, a lot of that is due to the fact people break up their posts now instead of being huge walls. I rarely see huge walls anymore, but older games almost everyone used to make much longer posts. So technically, catching up in not that much harder.
- Second point, which kind of ties in to first, is that with smart phones more prevalent now, people can now "play on the go". For example, a lot of people who were in school would probably wait until they got home, people who didn't have office jobs would wait until they got home, etc. Now, people just can interact with a game much more during their daily lives.

In any case, I don't think the recent trend is "unhealthy". Change is always bound to happen, there's not much point in trying to stick to the old ways. Sure if a particular player posts a lot of nonsense and troll posts deliberately and consistently in games, then they should be looked at. But that should be a case by case basis.

The problem back when I was active years ago was word count, not post count. I distinctly remember Zoraster modding a game back in the day where he explicitly placed a maximum character length in the rules.

Multiple infractions were handed out.
