Mini 609 - The Kingmaker's Revolt - OVER!

He brought up alot in post 381 that definately stirred some interest and he confirmed where you said it in 386. I questioned him on it which is what you quoted (again pretty selective reading) and his reply to mneme in 393 was enough to sway my thinking on it the other way. I've already said theres a few things that would make me suspicious of you, but if the 3 in a scum faction bit stands up then the people Ythill linked you to should all be dead! You've put forward the idea of 3 in a faction which does seem balanced to me I admit but because you said it and because of your past actions I'm still not convinced. That the post you're nailing me for had reference to 4 in a faction makes me all the more suspicious. The only reason you arent my main suspect is because I think its more likely that there are 3 in a faction but it would be very foolish to rule it out until its confirmed.

I find ZONE and Seth far more suspicious at this point, ZONE for being an ass who has never posted anything that would lead me to believe he's town and Seth for refusing to give any kind of defense or input despite repeated requests to do so.

I'm tempted to ask for a deadline but there no real point as I think this day is after getting as much activity as its going to from yourself, pug and ZONE!

To the farthest corners of the kingdom, silence fell.

For a lynch had been made.

Who was the knight in black armour that rode the streets? Beneath the helmet, who was this man? This warlord? He rode, slowly, to the gallows.

And the Prince of Mardonia was dying.

But was his line?

As his last breaths sputtered out, he gazed balefully over the crowd.
"My cousin," he gasps. "Where is she? My pretty, my wife to be?"
He stares at each face in turn, then attemppts to break free of the gallows, lunging forward.
"NO! NO!"
A swift punch to the stomach silences him, as the crowd turns to see two figures linking arms, the princess and her lover at last free of the war around them.

"Traitor..."

He was gone.

Wooooooooot! Five scum and no mislynches. We're smart or something.

I consider this my best game as town so far and, damn the survival win condition, I really feel like this should have been a win for me. Oh well, all you townies owe me a favor next time we play together.


FTR, I could have sat back and been inactive but my role PM hinted that there was more than one scum faction and I figured that the best way to survive was to kill them all as fast as possible.

Afterstory

Mardonia was to become, as a repubic, the foremost state in the battles against the goblins in the years to come. All the major players in the revolt became important in that fight, but that, as they say, is another game...

For now, celebrations were being held in every tavern in the country... and Berthred decided to go and take a look in.


Ethelred became the foremost stesman of the new realm, being elected president in later years. He was the most popular leader Mardonia had ever known.


Guthred was to be heard from again as well, becoming a templar knight who led the wars against the goblins.


Jubal defended his country in the months following the invasion, and a statue was erecyed in his honour. His horse, Bavieca, was given free stabling for life by order of the republic.


Jessica of Mardonia was happily in love with Jubal, and was at the forefront of diplomacy with Mardonia's often less than friendly neighbours.
However, a year after the revolt ended Jessica and Jubal disappeaered and have not been seen since...


For now, though, we shall laeve these characters at peace, and it is peace indeed that reigns as the sun sets over Mardonia.

You are a scum roleblocker. You win when all the House of Larec’s enemies are dead, or if both Pra a Funkee Homo Sapien and Empking die you become town aligned along with ashmite84. If ashmite84 dies for any reason, you will commit suicide the following night. At day you may talk to influence the King.

Lord Jacob de Ghrain

The house of de Ghrain has been the most powerful after the royal house in Mardonia since time immemorial. De Ghrains have led conquering armies, bought and sold lesser lords like cattle, and trampled the peasantry into dust for nearly 500 years, since Larec the Good founded the realm. However, Lord Uhtred of Darchester has been getting more and more powering the last few years. He is now a man who can make and break Kings in this realm.

You want that power… and you want Uhtred’s head on a pike.

You are the Lord Jacob, lord and master of the House of de Ghrain (scum), with Sir Harold Fortain (Gimbo), your loyal vassal, and Christopher Fastolf (mneme), your family huntsman, as your partners. You and your fellow conspirators will win when everyone else is dead. However, to complete your victory, there is another thing you must complete; taking Uhtred’s head and hanging it from the walls of Ghrain Castle. As well as the conventional victory condition, you must make sure the Kingmaker dies before endgame.

YOU, personally, must send me the NK each night, along with who will carry it out (Gimbo will if you die, and mneme will if both of you die). You may discuss this with your fellow scum at night. Also, you have a role cop investigation, where you may use your contacts in Mardonia’s dark underworld to find another player’s role. Laslty, modnotes;

I was really pleased with this game. Running wise, we had one replacement the whole game, which is quite good going, activity was excellent, and everyone except Gimbo played thoughtfully and well.

Balance wise I don't think the scum had a disadvantage despite how the game went for them. Town had 2 teams to face off against, both quite powerful (GF+RBer+Goon, and a bunch of cops on the other). Town particulalry had the problem of losing one doctor randomly after a correct lynch if they lynched lulu (which they managed not to).

Ythill did his best in a hard job. Survivor is hard, particualrly survivng when you're as talented, contributing and incisive a player as Ythill (to the point when ALL the scum wanted him dead at once).

This has to have been one of the best town wins I've seen though, all credit to all of you.

And all that remains for me is to say that my next planned game is TIMEWARP; MAFIA IN THE CONTINUUM, which will feature hilarious rules changes (imagine finding on day 6 that you hadn't been lynched on day 1 after all...)

@ythill: We saw u as dangerous day 1 but since u had a town read on lulu we figured we'd let you live. You were spot on with just about all of your analysis as well so once you pegged lulu we figured we'd try and kill u before u nailed any more of us. We knew ash was the doc so we blocked him to make sure we'd get u. U are a hell of a player man, tough to stay out of your sights! Any slip at all and u nail people for it. Why couldnt u hav been on our team?

@ lulu: I frickin knew u would do me, u gave up on Emp too quick for my liking at a point where we were sitting pretty and i said as much to Jenter and Pra. It crossed my mind to kill u knowing i'd take ash out too and no longer need the blocker role but since i looked suspicious after emps death i thought i'd be the next lynch and u would be scot free if u put in a vote for it. With the other faction dead u were in a better position than me to dodge the lynch if that happened! I was right too, figured u and ash for masons or something and that kinda bit me in the ass in terms of our faction winning! Had to chance it all the same on the off chance. Well played, next time i'll get u, lol.

at that point it would have been suicide to not be on emp's lynch, i didn't think there was any way to save him. going against the lynch would have looked horrible. i really am very sorry though. if mneme had come up town i would have tried to win with you. =(

Zone was great to watch in this. He was aggressive, caustically nasty at times, blunt, loads of people though he looked scummy... but he got the scum correct every single time...

It was before the Azim death, but I thought you were both scum and I felt like I had a better chance of convincing Ash to kill him.

My biggest mistake was making Azim the king. Not because he was scum, but because as soon as I sent the PM I posted in the thread that I had played with him before and then I said, to myself, "That was stupid, everyone is going to know you're the kingmaker."

I think my best move was the Gimbo modkill request. It really drew out the scummy reactions.

Best scum performance was Rob. Most valuable townie, IMO, was ash. All in all, a great game! I'll be looking forward to Jenter's future projects.

@ Seth: I thought if i stayed on zone i was screwed for definate so i gambled on you and it cost me. I knew i'd b a sittin duck after it but the thinking behind it was lulu might switch vote to u but alas that didnt happen. Worth a go though, didnt have much other choice at the time!
@lulu: Ye we had to shaft Emp i think. I thought mneme was town, i wouldnt have killed him otherwise. Once he came out as scum any chance to pin zone as scum went up in smoke. To be honest i'd have done the same thing as u if i had a win condition like that though, well played.

i was sort of hoping he'd follow my vote on you, but he didn't. i didn't talk to him all game because i was still scum up until the last day-- i thought mneme was town too, remember? that night i was playing as scum. but as soon as he came up town i knew i should probably change my play.

grrr. Good game. So annoyed at Rob for killing me; I'd managed to get Empking lynched without revealing my cop status (because having a guilty on Emp? In a game where two of my buddies had been scumcops? Even though I did? No, thank you).

I'd probably not have bussed -both- my partners if I'd realized there was an entire scum opposing faction (pretty unusual in a Mini game; 6 town isn't a lot); I -knew- there was another killer, of course, after our kill failed night 1.

Re Ythll: He had to die. He was either opposing scum or confirmed town, given the way he'd managed to take out Az, (and force me to stick to my bus). Or he was kingmaker (presumed town; I didn't know about km=survivor, and that didn't matter given that we lost if he was alive at endgame (hmm. Ghrain + Ythll at endgame = all loss?). I'd actually not bothered to recheck my partner list when we "voted" off Gimbo -- but it didn't matter; it was -right- to kill him; if he'd not gone looney, it wouldn't have been necessary.

Well, that couldn't have gone worse, could it? Seriously, between the unwanted spotlight of being king Day 1 and having Gimbo as a partner, I'm surprised I almost survived Day 2. At least I thought mneme had survived without much of a problem...until he didn't. Sigh.

I'd like to point out that barring my specific name and title, everything I said in this game was the truth. So much for

that

strategy.

Other thoughts:

--As soon as I was chosen king, I was 90% certain that the Kingmaker was Ythill, given our recent history. That's the main reason I wanted him dead, because he had to die for me to win. Maybe he should have chosen a random target? Still, it helped get me in trouble, so he helped the town win by choosing me.

--Ha, I should have killed PaFHS after all!

--While I thank our mod for a very interesting and exciting game, I really wish he had either modkilled Gimbo or not. Leaving any of that choice up to me (i.e., whether to kill Gimbo or a second person, etc.) just made things tougher.

--Interesting that there was so much behind the scenes; too bad we didn't see much of it until after the game was over.

All in all, a fun game, even if none of my plans went right. Thank you Jenter Brolincani!
