Mini 147: Warhammer 40,000 - Game Over!

Post Post #0 (ISO) » Sun Dec 19, 2004 12:56 am

Post by SinisterOverlord »

Against the backdrop of the infinity that is space, the battleship
Righteous Fury
hangs in the air, slowly orbiting the planet Tareanus VI. Resembling nothing more than a several kilometre-long cathedral, its corridoors are walked by quietly humming servitors preparing the ship for the powerful figures of authority soon to arrive. In the control chambers, chanting Tech-adepts perform the rituals needed constantly needed to control the gargantuan ship.

It is upon this ship that twelve figures have arrived to discuss the future of the Imperium. However, as always in the 41st millenium, all is not what it seems...

Rules
(taken from various, mainly Phoebus)

-Votes should be in the format
Vote: JohnCitizen
. If they aren't, they will be ignored. Also, remember to unvote before voting someone else.

-No communication outside the thread unless you are specifically told otherwise in your role PM's - and then, only according to the specified conditions.

-Once a player has reached a majority of votes, the day will end and that player will be killed. Please try to keep discussion to a minimum after this occurs.

-You can
Vote: No Lynch
if you want the day to end without a lynch. As with voting for players, a majority is required.

-If you have died, don't add anything further. You may post once - so long as it contains nothing significant about the game.

-Don't edit or delete posts once they have been posted.

-Don't quote PM's from me, on penalty of death.

-If you don't get in a night choice before the deadline, you will not do anything at all that night.

-Feel free to ask if you have any further questions.

Mastermind of Sin strode down the hallways of the grand battleship, his armoured feet echoing off the metal floors. He glared around himself threateningly... something wasn't right, there was someone else coming...

He unholstered his plasma pistol and flicked the button that would charge up the weapon, ready for the figure who was approaching.

A gargantuan, humanoid figure loomed over him, its weapons humming. Wasting no time, he dove to the side, firing off a volley of charged plasma at the behemoth, the weapon having no effect on it. He took cover behind a couple of crates, before realizing what they contained...

A wave of white-hot energy impacted with the ammunition crates, causing an explosion that rocked the ship.

Mastermind of Sin, Commander Azrael, has been blown up.

-

Meanwhile, Flying Dutchman looked around the shuttle that was carrying him onto the battleship, inspecting it. Normally he would be surrounded by a full Honour Guard, but he had ordered this overridden for this special event. He would have to do this alone, this time...

A hissing sound outside, followed by a dull thud, indicated that the shuttle had docked with the
Righteous Fury
. He stepped up to the door that would lead onto the ship, and pressed the button that would slide open the door.

It obliged, revealing a large hulking figure barely capable of fitting through it. With an oath, Flying Dutchman leapt backwards, trying to draw his weapon, but his foe was surprisingly quick for his size. The figure pursued him as he backpeddalled, swinging wildly at him. A thud alerted him to the fact that he'd run out of space, his only resort being to try and draw his weapon...

But he was too slow. A massive claw grasped him by the chest and squeezed, crushing his internal organs. He collapsed to the ground, as the figure proceeded to mutilate him further...

A short time later, when his assailant had left, he held just enough conciousness to notice another pair of armoured boots stood next to him. A throaty laugh filled the shuttle, before one of those boots was pulled back and slammed into his head, snapping his neck.

Flying Dutchman, Marneus Calgar, has been mutilated horribly.

-

It is Day 1. With 10 alive, it is 6 to lynch.

OK, well the gigantic humanoid figure sounds to me like a Tyranid, perhaps? Certainly not a Marine (of any nature), Eldar (of any nature), Imperial Guard or Tau - I've probably missed a couple, but most armies are essentially humanoid. I'd stake a fair bit that it's either a Tyranid or an Ork, and either way I imagine that it's a serial killer - Tyranids would understand that the Hive Mind would be detected in too great a concentration (perhaps it's a Genestealer Hybrid?), and an Ork would be more than happy to have a chance to fight on its own. Daemons don't have weapons to charge, so it can't be that.

The second death... a hulking figure with an armoured means Terminator armour, and the swinging wildly suggests a sword, or an axe, or something? Either way, you wouldn't swing with a lightning claw, yet a claw is present. The most likely suspect, in my opinion, is Abaddon the Despoiler. I know it's not much, but at least I've begun to narrow down the possible scum - as it's a twelve person game, perhaps we can begin to work stuff out.

Firstly, I imagine there's about three or four scum total - my money's on there being two Mafia members and a Tyranid.

Secondly, I'd imagine there's probably either one or two cops, one of which is dead. I can't think of anyone offhand for whom being a cop makes sense, unless the way it works is that Dark Angels are cops - which makes sense, given the way they act. I'm open to other suggestions, but if there is another cop I reckon it's Ezekiel.

Thirdly, there's probably one Doctor. No-one particularly logical springs to mind.

Fourthly, I'd be surprised if there wasn't a Vigilante - probably Commisar Yarrick, or perhaps a Blood Angel, but there are other possibilities.

Lastly, I'd expect maybe two more pro-town roles, for instance roleblocker (if I'm wrong about Ezekiel, perhaps a psyker as a roleblocker) or something unusual... I'll leave that up to the others to decide.

Oh, and I should mention: I'm highly up-to-date with Dark Angels lore, but I don't know that much about other armies. Just an FYI.

OK, we may as well get this started... Randomly

holy cow aelyn... that's the most theme-based analysis that I've ever seen in my mafia-playing experience. Must be some 40,000 fanatic :P.

Anyhow, looks like it migth be very possible to get quite a bit of info from the theme, and some more research for me to do :(

Aelyn what tyranid's have weapons that need to be charged up. The first killer doesn't seem to be a tyranid as far as I can see. Also it is stated the creature is humanoid. The second killer may indeed be abbadon, but it is by no means certain. Chaos certainly has enough characters to fill a mafia group.

No. Comander Azreal charged his plasma pistol. Would a tyranid have a humming weapon?

Actually, Warpdragon, it does say the gargantuan humanoid's weapons hummed - this doesn't sound Orky to me (they tend to make loud noises or no noise, not hum), but did remind me of the hyperactive metabolism of the Tyranids.

And the double-post was because my computer's messed up.

No. Comander Azreal charged his plasma pistol.
Oops, you are right. Tyranids can have humming weapons. And can be pretty large. So it seems to me that it may indeed be a tyranid. But it can be any other race that have some characters of a larger size.

Well, PBuG, Dark Angels are actually a form of Marine - they're one of the Founding Chapters.

Here's a complete list (off the top of my head):

Tau
Tyranids
Orks
Eldar
Dark Eldar
Eldar Harlequins (kinda obsolete)
Stunts (Obsolete)
Imperial Guard

CHAOS:
- Word Bearers
- World Eaters
- Night Legion
- Iron Warriors
- Thousand Sons
- Plague Marines
- Noise Marines
And a couple others

SPACE MARINES:
- Dark Angels
- Space Wolves
- Ultramarines
- Blood Angels
- White Scars
- Salamanders
- Black Templars
(- Grey Knight) - strictly, they're part of the Inquisition.

There's probably one or two others I've forgotten.

Good choice

Seriously, nothing's really going on here right now. We're making wild conjectures about the setup based on the theme and the two nightkills.

You may be able to tell, as (apparently) the most knowledgable about 40K, I am so far the most active poster by far.
