True mafiascum newbie here.
Remove my general "in."
If you want to replace into a specific game, you should PM its moderator. (Otherwise you often end up with crossed wires and replacement offers being missed, etc.).
Venmar, you need to post in the relevant queue thread that you want to join (normally using "/in" or "/in to play"). This is the right queue for newbie games, so just post your "/in" here, and then when there are enough players for a game (which can take a week or so, sometimes a bit longer, sometimes much faster if the game is already filled), you'll be PMed with instructions.
↑Wray wrote:So, did I get this right: I can only sign up for one newbie game at a time, but I can go ahead and sign up for a non-newbie game along with the newbie game? I have some experience from other forums so I know the ropes, but I am pretty green.
↑singersigner wrote:If you wish to play another game elsewhere on the forum, you may, but first time newbies will not be allowed to play as a Newbie in a Newbie game if you wish to take that option. This queue is designed for first time Newbies in their first and only game.
Basically, if you're in your very first game onsite, you can play it in the Newbie queue or elsewhere on the site (but this is secretly the best queue), either from the start or replacing in, but if it's here, it must be your only game. Once you have one game completed, you will be able to play multiple games at once, but you can only be in one newbie game from the start at a time. (Once you have one completed game, you can replace into games
as well as
starting a game from the start, rather than doing one or the other.)
As I remember it, the rules changed recently, and there's some confusion as to what they are now. It's probably best to wait for singersigner to turn up and clarify.
↑MisterBoo wrote:How much more until the next game starts?
It'll need enough players to fill up (it must be very close to that now, if it hasn't reached it already), and then singersigner and the mod also need to get online to set it up.
If you want to replace into a specific game, PM the moderator of that game. (Even if you don't want to replace into a specific game, you'll still probably have to end up PMing the mod of the game you end up replacing into to arrange the replacement.)
↑Musical Mettaur wrote:So...this is a thread where people give news about their newbie games?
It's a thread for working out which players should be assigned to which newbie game.
It's mostly full of people saying they want to be in a game, but replacements being needed is definitely relevant to filling games. Games ending is less relevant, but it's still useful information for singersigner, both because it affects experience, and because it often means there's going to be a flood of newbies who've just finished their first game and want to play another.
↑Chief270 wrote:And a general question that was kind of touched on, but would like to ask anyway. I'm very active online during the week(Monday - Friday) but will hardly be on during the weekends. Would this cause problems in most games? Or would the wait from Friday to Monday between posts be too long?
Weekend V/LAs (i.e. periods of no access to the computer) aren't exactly unheard of; several experienced players here have that pattern. Just make sure you declare them in advance, and make sure that the mod isn't using an unusually short prod range (which they shouldn't be doing in Newbie games).
As far as I know, thefts from the queue only happen pre-game before anyone has posted anything but /confirms (so it's still playing from the start). Anything beyond that, the mod's supposed to advertise for replacements.
Just managed to win my last game and i'm kinda gameless so game size/place/other modifiers don't matter
If you want to replace into a game, you'll have the best luck looking for games with players in need of replacement and PMing the mod to ask for one. Replacements are mostly handled via PM anyway.
(I'm genuinely confused as to whether you can pick a particular game type or not. I'm assuming the game type for this part of the year or this particular point is already set? Or that it's just randomly chosen by the host. Regardless I've probably missed somewhere where it states as such.)
I know you figured out the answer yourself, but more generally: all newbie games use identical setups. Outside newbie games, you can choose what you want to play; there are the Normal and Theme queues for unknown-to-the-players setups with varying levels of complexity, and the Open queue if you want to play a game whose setup is known in advance (and in such cases, you get a choice of setup).
↑the Godfather wrote:does anyone know who commands the shots around on this site?
well anyway i was wondering if you could take the option of hiding ur viewing of the forum because its annoying when u dont know if people are lurking or if there just not there. well hope to hear back
mith is in charge, most of the day-to-day running is done by other people, though (Mr. Flay is the most visible member of the people with super access to everything, and the list mods like singersigner handle most of the moderation that can be done without needing such drastic powers).
And yes, there's an option to hide the fact you're viewing forums from other people, although I can't offhand remember where it is. Try looking through the options in your profile again.
on this forum, so you shouldn't be ashamed of it, and nobody will shout at you for doing it (unless you make like ten posts in a row). When playing Mafia, it's important that people can't change the history of what they've said, and the queue uses the same rules so that singersigner doesn't miss an edit.
You can't delete or edit posts because then the list mod could easily miss them. Imagine if singersinger had marked you down as being /in, and missed that you deleted the post; you might end up in a game despite not wanting to be there.
↑HadMatter wrote:So just to be clear: do I have any sign-up restrictions (certain game types only or number of simultaneous games) once I finish my first newbie game?
The restrictions are:
You can only
start
one newbie game at a time (although you can replace into as many as you want to);
You can only start four mini games (mini themes + mini normals together) at any given time;
You can only start three micro games at any given time;
You cannot play in or replace into an SE slot in a newbie game until you've died in or finished your second game (a newbie game, or elsewhere);
You cannot play in or replace into an IC slot in a newbie game until five games you've been in are over;
You cannot join games (typically theme games) which have a specific experience requirement you don't meet.[/lib]
The problem with the on-call replacements list is that people tend to forget about it because asking in the thread is more likely to get a replacement quickly (because it selects in favour of people who are online at the time). So it's better for the people currently inside the game (what the mod is normally focusing on), but worse for the people trying to join.
