Mini 207 - Roleswap Mafia! Nightfall lynched, but who's won?

Post Post #0 (ISO) » Mon Jul 04, 2005 6:31 pm

In the small community of Townietown, all seemed to be good in the world... until you woke up this morning to hear a scream come from the mayor's house.

You all run over there, to find out what's going on. Turns out that shock, horror! The mayor's lovely golden chain by which he rules the town has gone
missing
.

"Obviously, having the golden chain is a fundamental part of being mayor!" he says, distraught. "So it would seem to me that, without the chain, I fundamentally cannot be the mayor. Sorry!"

And with that he runs off.

For the fourth time this week, you wonder why you elected him.

His wife is a little more helpful. She explains that some greedy Bad Men have decided to take over Townietown, and have decided that a mix of theft, hording and muder is the best way to do so.

She prepares to leave, with a few final words.

"We don't know who the Bad Men are, but they are certainly among us. Among you."

You look at each other nervously.

"I must leave, to help my husband regain his sanity - well, what's left of it - but in the meantime, I will send out a number of items tonight which should help you in these dark times. But greed is what drives the Bad Men, and I don't want the town to fall to greed. Therefore, I feel it is best if you share these items, sending them out each night to one of your friends."

"What if one of the Bad Men gets one of them?" one of you calls out.

She smiles, taps her nose, and says "Look for the people who hold items for as long as possible, in that case! Ciao."

As she leaves after her husband, you wonder why her parting comment was about food, but shrug and go home, dreading the day to come...

RULES (Blatently stolen from Halo Freak, for the most part...)

Standard rules.

1. Bold your votes and unvotes please, this makes it easier for me. they should look like this
Vote Aelyn
.

2. If you are unvoting, it must be like this:
Unvote
. You do not have to say who you are unvoting. However, you do have to unvote before revoting.

3. Any votes or unvotes not in bold will not be counted .

4. Do not communicate at night unless your role PM says otherwise.

5. Do not quote my PM's or I may have to modkill you.

6. You may vote
No lynch
, and a majority of these votes will end the day without a death.

7. Please do not edit or delete your posts no matter how stupid a mistake you made.

8. Once you're dead, you're dead, so stop posting. Unless you want to say something with no game effect or meaning, but even then, only one.

9. If you anticipate being unavailable for more than a 48-hour period, please post a notice to that effect in the thread. After a player has been absent for 48 hours without posting an alert, I will prod him; 24 hours after the prod, I will look for a replacement.

10. If you have a night choice to make, please get it to me as soon as you can. In extreme delays, I will impose a deadline and simultaneously prod everyone who hasn't yet submitted a night choice.

11. Executions will require a number of votes equal to the smallest number greater than half the number of living players. Once a player has reached the necessary majority, his pleas are useless and any attempts to unvote will be unheeded.

12. Once the final vote has been cast, we are in twilight. You may post freely, but votes and unvotes will be ignored.

13. If you are requesting a mod prod or vote count can you
Bold
your request so that I can see it more clearly.

14. No Swearing. First offence by ANYONE will be punished by a severe warning and an edited post which will make you look silly. Second offence in the game will result in a modkill.

15. HAVE FUN!!!!!

16. Lastly and most importantly: Respect me and the rest of the players.

SPECIAL RULES FOR THIS GAME

In the game, there are a number of items. Each item grants an ability of some nature, be it a night choice or a day effect.

This is the basic Townie PM, before taking items into account:
Aelyn wrote:
Townie

You're just a basic townie, living alone. You don't like the Bad Men, and want them to go away. One problem, though - you aren't quite sure what they look like, so you don't know what to do. You decide your only choice is to talk with the rest of the townspeople and decide who to get rid of each day.

Each night, you may use as many abilities as are granted to you by whatever items you have; however, you cannot target the same person with more than one ability at night, no matter how many items you have.
Each night, everyone with an item MUST, for each item, send me the name of the person they want to send it to. If it is a targeted night choice, they must also send me the name of the person they want to use their ability on.

You may not send me the same name for any two night abilities, whether it is an ability granted by an item or simply the passing on of the item. In other words, you must maximise the number of names you send me each night.

The way the abilities get sent out is as follows.

Firstly, all the night choices are submitted.

Then the night abilities happen, all at once.

Then all living players send their items on, if they can. If they sent them to a player who just died, they get returned to sender - in other words, if I were to send someone an item and they died that same night, I would keep the item for the next day.

Whenever someone dies, all items they had get removed from the game, to mirror normal mafia. So if I had a cap and died, whether by lynching or nightkill, the cap would be gone from the game.

Feel free to ask me any questions about how the game works whenever you want.

You wake up in the morning; well, most of you do.

Some of you admire your shiny new items before heading to the town centre (By the way, feel free to PM me with questions about those); others of you don't have any. But when you all arrive to discuss the occurances, you notice that Save the Dragons is missing.

You head to his house, and hear a quiet - and rather crackly - noise.

You move into his hall, and find him lying dead on the floor, horrifically murdered with a rusty spoon. He was just a plain old
townie
.

In his hands, you find a beaten-up
police radio
, and hear the words crackling out:

"... ocent man. I hope you can use this knowledge to get rid of the Bad Men. Godspeed."

With that, the radio dies...

A quick question: does anyonethink that the bracelet is in fact an item? Because if the Bad Men have the chain, and they are among us... doesn't that mean that the bracelet is an plausable item? :?:

And oh yeah, random
Vote: Splosion

<Insert expression of dismay about loss of police radio>
I'm rather puzzled by the spoon, but on to more pressing matters:
Vote Sineish
because Cosine is cooler than sine.

I have a question about the setup:
Does this mean that all of us (except the mafiosi) are townies, and that all roles are given by items?
Or is there, eg, a cop independent of the radio?
Re: the bracelet/golden chain
I don't think a bracelet is what Aelyn had in mind with the golden chain. I think it's literally a big golden chain with a medal worn around the neck. I think the traditional power that a mayor has is to take people into protective custody, but I haven't ever actually seen that used in a game.

I think it is most likely that we are all townies and our powers are given by the items we have. Thus, losing the police radio was a very unlucky start.

I have no idea what a mayor role would be. I've heard of governor roles that can save someone from lynching once, but not a mayor. But I haven't played in too many games (despite the fact that I've been registered here longer than anyone else in this game, which is a first for me)

Usually, a mayor is able to make a single daytime kill by calling for an execution by Order of the Mayor.

At least, that's the role that I know of as mayor.

vote: MoS
. This would have been retaliation, but I guess I can call it random now ;)

Regarding the mayor chain: I think we need to be more careful with coming forward, as the bad guys might have one daykill with that item. Also a possible double vote is something we should keep in mind.

I will say, I'm the one who sent the Police Radio to STD.

Wait! I just realized something. I chose mepmuff to investigate, so according to the radio, mepmuff is innocent!

In that case, Aelyn made a mistake. I sent the police radio to STD. I investigated mepmuff.

P.S. Aelyn has informed me that the nightscene has nothing to do with the investigation, so never mind about mepmuff.

PBuG, if were in a position to send the radio to STD, then you must have been in a position to use it. Therefore, you
should
have solid investigative results from last night. Is mepmuff innocent?

Actually, there's a chance that Aelyn has not made a mistake. <speculation> There may be two radios and by some odd coincidence, PBuG could have sent his to the only other person with a radio. If there are two radios, given 3-4 mafiosi and no apparent SK(only one night kill last night) we may need to take radio sanity into account. </speculation>
Anyway, here's an issue the town needs to decide:
If Aelyn has indeed made a mistake, then we still have the police radio. Given the sequence of actions (People are killed, then items are sent), the person who has police radio will likely be killed at night. However, whoever has the doctor's kit (whatever form it may take) can save them. This process can theoretically continue perpetually. The policeman's radio can travel from person to person, with last night's policeman informing us of the person to whom it was given each morning. The only problem with this switching is that all investigations need to be made public in order for the radio's results to be useful (since each cop-for-a-night would only have one result). That leaves two dilemmas:
How do we sort out false results given by mafiosi?
If we make the results public, the mafiosi have a list of confirmed innocents to kill. Should we make the results public? Or is there a better way?

Anyway, I'm going to go for a run, I'll think about this later.

Apparently the transimission is delayed so the person who recieves it recieves the transmission.
