GAME RULES

Stolen and adapted from Varsoon.


SPECIAL MECHANICS:

Spoiler: Civics and Traits
CIVICS
  • Every player must pick two
    Civic
    abilities out of three options within their Role-PM before game start.
  • All Civic abilities are immediately available to a player.
  • Civic abilities cannot be changed once the game has started.
TRAITS
  • Every player starts the game with 2
    Trait Points
    .
  • Different Traits have different values, corresponding with the relative strength of the abilities they provide.
  • Every player must pick one or two Traits equal in worth to your 2 Trait Points before game start.
  • This means you can either pick two Traits worth 1, one Trait worth 2, or one Trait worth 3 and one Trait worth -1 (minus one).
  • All Trait abilities are immediately available to a player.
  • Additional Trait Points can be obtained throughout the game, and can be spent on additional Traits or saved for later.
  • Trait Points can be spent during any Day phase by messaging the moderator with your intent to do so, naming your intended Trait(s).
  • Players' picked Traits will be publicly visible to all in the third post of the game-thread.

Spoiler: Technology
  • Technologies
    can be researched throughout the game to gain additional abilities.
  • Before each Day phase you are provided with three Tech options randomly drawn from a Tech pool.
  • Each time you research a Tech additional related Techs are added to your Tech Pool.
  • All Techs that start within your Tech pool provide no abilities, future Techs will.
  • To research a Tech you must message the moderator with your intent to do so during a Night, naming the Tech you wish to obtain.
  • You may not take any other targeted action in a Night phase if you choose to research a Tech.
  • All Tech abilities are available to a player when the next Day phase starts.

Spoiler: Ascension Perks
  • Ascension Perks are abilities that can be gained by being on a lynch-wagon.
  • When a player is lynched all players voting for them get to pick an Ascension Perk during the next Night phase.
  • Ascension Perks are divided into four tiers, one being the lowest and four the highest.
  • You may only pick a perk of a higher tier if you have already obtained one of a lower tier.
  • You must have more Ascension Perks of the tier below before picking a perk from any tier higher than 1.
  • This means if you have one tier-1 perk and one tier-2 perk you may pick a tier-3 perk, but must obtain another tier-1 perk before choosing another from tier-2.
  • Ascension Perk abilities are available to a player when the next Day phase starts.
  • You may have no more than six Ascension Perks.

Spoiler: Federations
  • Players can gain the ability to form a
    Federation
    with other players throughout the game. Federations are a collective of players that vote as one and gain various benefits.


  • The weight of a Federation's vote is equal to the total number of votes the individual allies control plus one.
  • A federated player votes to lynch in the game-thread as usual, however the Federation will only vote for a player if a majority of allies is reached.
  • If a Federation consists of two players this means both must be voting for the same player.
  • Existing Federations, their respective vote weights, and who the allies within are voting for will be kept track of in all vote-counts.
  • A federated player may not vote to lynch another Federation ally.
  • A federated player may choose to leave the Federation at any time during a Day phase by messaging the moderator, but may not vote to lynch their ex-allies for the remainder of the Day.
  • The above restriction preventing a player from voting ex-allies upon leaving a Federation is waived if the Federation makes up half or more of the player-pool.


  • All players within a Federation have access to a Federal private-topic which may be used during both Day and Night phases.


  • Federations have a Night-ability to
    Embargo
    another player, thus preventing them from taking activating any abilities during the next Day and Night phase.
  • To use Embargo a majority of Federation allies must vote in their Federal private-topic upon the same intended target using "
    Bolded
    " text.
  • Embargo cannot be used on consecutive nights.


  • Unless stated otherwise you may only successfully invite one other player to a Federation.
  • If a Federation falls apart due to its Federated players being reduced to one, players with the ability to do so may form new Federations.
  • All Federations fall apart when only 3 players are alive.

Spoiler: Voting Mechanics
  • If LYLO is reached Plurality voting rules are applied instead of Majority rules. This means that the player with the most votes upon them is lynched at the end of the Day.
  • In LYLO Days last 96 hours.
  • If a player were to start a Day with enough votes upon them to have them lynched they die at Day-start, with the Day proceeding as usual.
  • The above rule doesn't apply in LYLO.
  • All indirect votes are removed in three player LYLO.
  • MYLO counts as LYLO for all purposes in this game.

Don't worry! This seems like a lot but a lot of it will be self-explanatory. :)


CLARIFICATIONS:

ABILITIES
  • There are three Ability types:
    Species
    ,
    Social
    , and
    Technological
    .
  • Species
    abilities consist of all abilities your Traits provide.
  • Social
    abilities consist of all abilities your Civics and Ascension Perks provide.
  • Technological
    abilities consist of all abilities your researched Technologies provide.
  • Before each Night phase I shall send you an updated Role-PM with all abilities currently available to you, sorted into their respective types.
VOTES
  • This game makes a distinction between
    Direct
    votes and
    Indirect
    votes.
  • Direct
    votes are votes that a player has direct-control over and move with a player's vote.
  • If a player has an ability similar to a Doublevoter both votes count as Direct votes.
  • Indirect
    votes are votes that once placed by an ability, cannot be moved by a player.
  • Certain abilities within the game exist that allow a player to place Indirect votes.

Spoiler: Miscellaneous definitions
  • A
    Vote Weight
    is the amount of votes any given player (or federation) is worth when voting to lynch. Vote waits for each player will be recorded in each vote-count.
  • Actions
    are all targeted abilities used during a Day or Night phase.

DURING THE DAY:

Spoiler:
Each Day will have a one-week deadline. Extensions will be given if I deem doing so applicable, always feel free to ask.
A simple majority of all living players must agree on one person (via voting) for a Lynch to occur (simple majority = ½ # of living players +1, rounded down).
If the deadline runs out before a majority lynch is agreed on, the day will end in a no-lynch.
Players may vote for a No-Lynch via voting for 'No Lynch'.
Once a player has reached a simple majority of votes no further unvoting will change their fate.
Once a player is lynched the game enters twilight until I post a death scene; all players may continue to post.
Once you are dead (either via lynch or night kill) you may no longer post except for a brief “Bah!”-type post that contains NO game related information.
Votes should be bolded or tagged or they may not be counted (e.g.
Vote: -Player-
or VOTE: -Player-).
Vote revocations should be bolded or tagged or they may not be counted (e.g. VOTE: UNVOTE: -Player- or
Unvote
). Unvotes are not necessary before changing votes.
Votes/Unvotes must be placed on a line all by themselves to make them easier for everyone to see.
Votes/Unvotes that reasonably follow the guidelines specified above, and are unambiguous with respect to player nicknames/abbreviations, will count.
Vote counts will be posted as often as possible. Other announcements and requested vote counts will receive their own post.


DURING THE NIGHT:

Spoiler:
Night will have a 72-hour deadline. Extensions will not be given, unless a player has to be replaced during the Night.
If you have a role with a Night action, your choices are due to me by the posted deadline. If I do not receive your choice via PM by the posted deadline you will forfeit your actions.
If you expect not to be here to submit your night action during the night, you may send one in in advance.
Roles with Night actions will not be able to submit an action on Night 0 (i.e. during the pre-game stage).

You may not speak of, or otherwise refer to, communications with the moderator outside of mechanical clarification.
You may not quote private Moderator-supplied information (either real or fabricated) of any kind. Paraphrasing (for role claims, etc.) is acceptable.
If you have an issue/problem with the game, please PM me privately. Do not post issues/complaints in the game thread.
If you do not understand how your role functions, feel free to PM me.
If you want to chat about delicious pizza and great vidcons, you can PM me about that, too.
I may make mistakes - please point out any mistakes gently. Mistakes will be corrected where possible, but sometimes mistakes are made that cannot be reversed. These will stand as final to be commiserated over after the game.
Rules violations will be dealt with according to their severity, up to and including a Modkill, as the Mod sees fit. Modkills may be accompanied by a change to day/night and the offender’s role will be changed to Neutral Survivor, which guarantees a loss.
- Just know, it's all about intention. If you genuinely mess up, I'll try to cut you some slack. If I determine you're trying to compromise the integrity of the game though, you won't be too happy with the punishment.
Any situation not explicitly covered above is subject to my discretion and will be handled as I see fit on a case-by-case basis.
I reserve the right to modify these rules at any time, so long as I inform you in thread.

I am going to start sending role-PM's.


Make sure to read the rules and pose any questions you may have now.


Once all role-PM's are out I'll start a 3-day timer. During this time each player must pick 2 Civics as their abilities as well as their wanted Traits once you have received your role. If you are a Mechanical species you may only pick Mechanical Traits, and vice-versa for Biological species.


I also apparently fudged up the link to the game-thread in everyone's role-PM's and had it link to the Mafia-PT. If you're not part of the Mafia you naturally won't be able to see anything, my apologies.

The governors of Strisant stared blankly at the holographic projections flickering ghostlike before them. No words were exchanged for a bleak understanding had crept up on all, numbing their minds and silencing the vigorous debate one would expect to find in the Grand Chamber of Vezoinae. Before them their home, all they once knew, burned. The capital of Strisant had been the last to fall, the invading forces ignoring its presence, instead seizing the easier pickings beyond its boundaries. The authorities had not been prepared, had not expected... and here they were, standing in terrible awe. The heart of the empire they once ruled slipping from their grasp whilst they stood powerless.

Families and labourers fled into the streets under the ruby skies, only to succumb to the swarm of droids that patrolled the ruined city streets. None were spared. Buildings that once defiantly stood erect piercing the skies now lay in shambles as corvettes zipped through the smokes dropping bombs upon the ecumenopolis below. Terror seized the hearts of the Sallian peoples and they knew not what was overcoming them. Neither did they know who their tormentors were. This assault had come out of nowhere, an immense fleet jumping into Strisant territories from an unspecified origin. None of the starships bore markings of allegiance, and the droids were of a make previously unknown to the industrial databanks. Great care had been taken to mask the identity of the aggressor, they fought in proxy.

It was unlikely this was a solo-action: the sheer size of the synthetic armies and fleets was immense and beyond the material capacities of any Sallian neighbour. No, this had to have been a cooperation. Authorities within our galaxy wanted the Sal eliminated, but they wished to be without blame. They had broken a centuries old code of honour, unspoken but followed nonetheless by all parties within the galaxy. This code had lead to an era of prosperity and trade for all. Tensions had naturally always been present, but conflict had always been direct and open. Never had a state resorted to such covert treachery in the living memory of our kinds. Their motives are wholly unknown to us much like their identities, but nothing good could ever come from an evil such as this. A fragile harmony had been shattered, the seeds of distrust sown...

Their are traitors within our midst. We must seek and destroy them, secure the continuation of our legacies.

I think this game is fascinating (great game wgeurts!) so I apologize to Nero Cain for taking you guys out so fast, but never in my mafia career will I miss a chance to do this:

And that's a lynch for today, as far as I'm aware.

If you get an ascension perk tonight, grab the federation one and we will work together with you. We've decided that if you've gone extremely adaptive you want the ability to not be on stupid wagons, so you're likely a town player, so we'll work with you. Joan of Arc is also llikely town based on her picks. Alisae might be scum, just because the "weak" trait implies she has friends keeping her from being lynched, but we're not decided on that at this point in time. Varsoon and Despair Galaxy are probably town based off of their trait choices. Dunnstral is probably scum, because he only gets ascension perks when putting his vote on wagons that don't share his alignment, which is super useful if you're scum.

It seems the fragile harmony of the galaxy may have been a whole lot more fragile than many would have anticipated. Mere hours after news of the Sallian Empire's downfall had reached the furthest reaches of civilisation, the Xanyr attacked. Much like the peoples of Sal those of the Orreian Hegemony were not ready for all-out war, particularly not at such short notice. The plantoid feudal society were of a peaceful, altruistic nature. Despite largely keeping to their own, the Orreian would aid any travellers and offer homes to any who sought refuge upon their homeworlds.

The Xanyr apparently didn't care much for the kind-hearted nature of these folk. A gargantuan swarm of planetary landers filled to the brim with soldiers was dispatched. Cruisers bombed the planets, raining hell from above. The plantoid Xanyr housed themselves in building constructed out of bio-engineered materials. Although these were easily produced and were of sturdy nature, they remained tremendously weak to fire. As such, the entire planet was set ablaze... all sentient plants perishing to the scourge along with any refugees which had shared their home.
