general:

- Please adhere to the site rules.
- Do not discuss this game of mafia outside of this thread.
- days will be 10 days long.
- night phases will last 40 hours maximum. on any given night, if all players PM me that they are okay to speed up the night, it will end sooner.
- During night phase, no talking may be done in the thread. Um the thread will also be locked, so i think this rule only applies to listmods and stuff
- Do not quote PM's from the mod at all (real or fabricated).
This includes specific timestamps and that sort of meta-data; please ask me if you're uncertain whether something breaks this rule.
Paraphrasing is acceptable.
- If you have any questions about your role, or the game, feel free to PM the mod.
- "Bah" posts are not allowed.
- i don't like players using the term "lynch" in my game, and i make an effort to provide a bunch of fun and stupid alternatives. i would appreciate seeing that effort returned
- it is also like against site rules i guess

voting / player actions:

- Vote either with vote tags (VOTE: schadd) or with bold (
vote: schadd
). Note that I didn't include the underscore in my username; you may choose to use a string that will uniquely identify a player to me instead of the exact thing.
- Don't try to confuse me with your votes.
- An Execution will occur once a majority decision is reached. if no majority is reached by deadline, then i will flip the person with the most votes (ties are broken via random selection).
- Following an execution, it is twilight. You may continue to post until I lock the thread and declare it night.
- If you have a Night Action, you may submit it from Night 1 and each subsequent Night (or whichever nights are specified by the role).

activity:

- You are expected to post at least once every 48 hours. If you haven't posted for 48 hours, I shall prod you. If you do not respond to the prod within 24 hours (either in thread if it's Day, or via PM during the Night) then I will replace you.
- As well, if you require more than three prods, I will force-replace you.

is my color. Please don't use it. i dont use it either because i think it's hard to read on mafsilver
- No impossible/hard to read text, or cryptography. For example, I would prefer that no font size smaller than the one you're reading now be used.
- The mod may make mistakes - please point out any mistakes gently. Mistakes will be corrected where possible, but sometimes mistakes are made that cannot be reversed. These will stand as final to be commiserated over after the game.
- If you need to get the mod's attention, either PM me, or bold the text you wish to draw to my attention.
- I reserve the right to alter/remove/add any rules as I see fit. You will, of course, be notified if that happens, however.

SETUP:
  • there are 8 town and 3 mafia
  • players start with 2 HP, and die when their HP goes to 0. nobody knows what their HP is other than that it starts at 2. executions occur as normal.
  • all actions emerge from potions, and players may use one each night by default. whenever a player takes an action, they lose the potion that allowed them to take the action (though the potion may be received by another player). there is not a factional nightkill.
  • players will flip with their alignment & the inventory of potions they had when they died
  • players are allowed to claim their ingredients
  • potions will generally not taste very good

reiterating from mini theme 2229 with no changes (other than wording):
  • every player gets: approximately 1 pain potion. approximately 0.65 harmography potions. approximately 0.2 jailkeeper potions. approximately 0.3 doctor potions.
  • every member of the mafia gets approximately 0.4 additional pain potions, and approximately 0.7 potions of Drink More Potions.
  • on day 4, everybody dumps their potions into the Torlet. then a magical fairy brings everyone a new distribution of potions by the same rules that they got them on the first day (which can then be used as soon as night 4); there is one difference, which is that town players get approx. 0.8 doctor potions instead of 0.3. if the game reaches day 7, players will again dump their potions into the Torlet leading to a vanilla nightless game.

minutia:
  • if somebody jailkeeps another player who attempts to use Drink More Potions, only the DMP will fail and the other potions that player attempted to use will not be wasted (naturally they are informed of this).
  • if two players use jailkeeper on each other, both will be protected from harm
  • if two members of the mafia both use Drink More Potions and then attempt to jailkeep each other while taking other actions, both players will explode and die
  • a harmography potion is still able to detect pain potion usages which fail as a result of their target being doctored or imprisoned; however, pain potions that fail because the
    perpetrator
    is imprisoned will not be detected

here's what the potions look like (they appear in this order in role PMs):
potion of Harmography:
at night, you may drink this potion and gaze discerningly at another player. come morning, you will find out each player that enacted a potion action to deal damage to them.

ingredients: brown crud, crud, grey witherments, beargstranous taratonoil, broken magics, mute blue crud

potion of Drink More Potions:
at night, you may drink this potion; it will enable you to drink up to two more potions.

ingredients: peanit oil, grey witherments, slick rot, plastoce, beargstran molecule, baseball, greed drum

potion of Pain:
at night, you may drizzle this on a player's dinner; they will take 1 HP of damage by the end of the night. a player is unable to use more than one Pain potion each night.

ingredients: green crud, grey witherments, tonine, broken magics, mute blue crud

potion of Jailkeeper:
at night, you may drink this potion to temporarily become a jailkeeper (you will not be financially compensated during that time) and Imprison another player; that player's potions will fail to take effect, and they will be immune to damage.

ingredients: brown crud, stink, music, crud, grey witherments, broken magics, beargstran molecule

potion of Doctor:
at night, you may pour this potion on a saguaro cactus (one will be provided to you if necessary) and it will gain medicinal capabilities, able to save another player from 1 HP of Pain.

ingredients: peanit oil, bexynol hoargstanate-5, grey witherments, broken magics, lawsuit

quick poisson primersomething that will be very helpful for you if you're trying to think about the setup probabilities is going to wolfram alpha and typing out e.g. "poisson density function for lambda = 4.2". in that case, it analyzes the outcomes you'd get if i handed out "approximately 4.2 potions" per this setup (i.e., a poisson event with an average output of 4.2).

the x axis here is a certain amount of potions, and the y axis is the probability that you'd get exactly that many. so in that case there would be a 2% chance of getting 0 potions, 7% chance of getting 1, 14% chance of getting 2, and so on.

i chose the number 4.2 because that represents the total amount of potions received by mafia. each one individually receives 1.4 (and you could look at those probabilities by saying lambda = 1.4), and you add those together to get 4.2. normally the probability distribution looks different when you take three random things and add them together, but with poisson it works out like that

I have problem that i read Torlet like Toilet and then wondered why i need pour potions here at Day 4 and why fairy reward me for that.

Either way, if someone got lucky and got two pots of pain, they need say, so we plan our damage output.

Wait, it's not supposed to be a creative spelling of "Toilet"?

As I understand it, multiple players can attack someone with pain pots, we could just use it as a double lim by telling people to use their pain pots on someone the next night. I propose that we use HURT: tags for this.

For what it's worth I'm pretty sure (like 90%) that torlet is supposed to mean toilet.

The mathematics behind the potion distribution made my head hurt. Buttt I'm no evolutionary fuckin' physicist or anything. That's alright though, I've got a simple grasp as to how the game works I
think
