yeah, pretty sure we are looking for far left; here are some random algebra questions from an end of seventh grade test:

to alleviate some of the downtime for the team that is not active at any given time we could adjust the psychic to be like
both teams send a psychic for the same spectrum, each with their own number they are cluing for, they send clues to datisi
then datisi presents both clues without any indication as to which is which, as well as the wavelength spectrum
and then each team has to figure out which clue they believe was given by their teammate and where to place it on the spectrum
and then we can also eliminate the left/right and just give the point each round to whichever team was closesti do not know for what this pebble is useful but it must be useful. for if it is useless, everything is useless. so are the stars!- gelsomina

actually i think maintaining the 1-4 point spectrum is best, but would still eliminate the left/right portion altogetherIn post 278, gelsomina wrote:just give the point each round to whichever team was closesti do not know for what this pebble is useful but it must be useful. for if it is useless, everything is useless. so are the stars!- Datisi

bump?I will straight up disregard all reason if you have a PR dream again. You can come back and be like, “I dreamt that Locke is a N2 Bulletproof Multitasking Cop and Self-Targeting Doctor,” and I will go, “Okay, Locke kill it is then.”~M- gelsomina

i think it is okay for sirius to lock in left at will; xalxe probably correct in that it is not extreme (< 10) due to being specified as seventh grade as opposed to earlier but that probably moves it from 5 to 15 or maybe(?) even 25 as sirius suggested but the questions themselves seem too trivial for the intended target to possibly be to the right of 40i do not know for what this pebble is useful but it must be useful. for if it is useless, everything is useless. so are the stars!- gelsomina

is okay morning, I should have figured you maybe meant "difficulty for me in solving them" instead of "difficulty for average person" and didn't think you'd have like a clear idea of exactly what the questions would look like instead of cluing it in a more abstract sense"we knew everything... And we knew nothing."- Menalque

here's the card foreight and a xalxe:
easy to kill hard to kill
and the clue that your psychic, Xalxe, provided is:A fly that keeps buzzing around and evading your grasp
your team has (expired on 2021-08-15 18:45:00) to guess where the target is. it’s now up to you to discuss and determine whereA fly that keeps buzzing around and evading your graspis on the spectrum from 0 to 100. 0 represents “easy to kill” and 100 represents “hard to kill".
gelsominais your team’s current representative. remember to provide your final answer in this format:guess: xwhere x is between 0 and 100.I will straight up disregard all reason if you have a PR dream again. You can come back and be like, “I dreamt that Locke is a N2 Bulletproof Multitasking Cop and Self-Targeting Doctor,” and I will go, “Okay, Locke kill it is then.”~M- Menalque

ooooh this is a fun one
my initial thought is, flies are quite kill-able, they are orders of magnitude easier for us to kill than the big bois like Bears, Hippos, Elephants, etc. But they can be hard to kill in the sense that they're quick little fuckers, and I think Xalxe is trying to point us towards that with the additional "evading your grasp" clause. I'd say this is left of 50, my gut instinct is in the upper 20s-30s range, but curious to hear what others think.
I could imagine worlds where this is like 40s-50s if he was focused on how annoying it can be trying to actually kill the damn things, but I wouldn't want to go any higher than 55 as I think by that point you'd be thinking of larger/deadlier things that are actually difficult to kill in a literal sense. You might be running around your kitchen for a bit with a flyswatter but usually you can kill the fly more often than not.
also any time killing flies comes up it makes me think of this throwback
"I think I no longer believe in monsters as faces in the floor or feral infants or vampires or whatever. I think at seventeen now I believe the only real monsters might be the type of liar where there's simply no way to tell. The ones who give nothing away"- gelsomina

so step one seems to be to determine where
a fly
would be on the spectrum
and step two would then be to adjust it to be
a fly that does not stop flying and cannot be grasped
which is basically to say
how much harder to kill does a fly become if you need to buy one of those bugzapper things in order to kill iti do not know for what this pebble is useful but it must be useful. for if it is useless, everything is useless. so are the stars!- gelsomina

okay so
100 would be like, a rock
90 would be like water bears
80 would be like cockroaches (a single cockroach would probably be much lower, but cockroaches as a collective are like, known for surviving)
70 would be xenomorphs
60 would be something mobile that was also dangerous to you as cannot kill if dead
50 would be like something mobile and difficult to kill but not a threat to you
40 would be something immobile but large effort
30 this probably about where the fly would go
20 would be like a snail that is cute so the difficulty would be in never wanting to (though i guess for me that would apply to the entirety of the list so perhaps this is a bad example)
10 would be like mosquito
0 would be like something with extremely short lifespani do not know for what this pebble is useful but it must be useful. for if it is useless, everything is useless. so are the stars!- gelsomina

so now how much to adjust based on the effort required to acquire a bugzapper thingIn post 294, gelsomina wrote:30 this probably about where the fly would goi do not know for what this pebble is useful but it must be useful. for if it is useless, everything is useless. so are the stars!- gelsomina

well actually how do we keep the specific fly located while acquiring the bugzapperIn post 295, gelsomina wrote:so now how much to adjust based on the effort required to acquire a bugzapper thingi do not know for what this pebble is useful but it must be useful. for if it is useless, everything is useless. so are the stars!- GuiltyLion

I think using your logic 35 feels like a pretty good spot - definitely not Super Low, but not too far either. I'd put a fly in a vacuum at like 20-30 so maybe adjust around 5-10 for evasiveness. I could go as far as 40 perhaps but that's definitely where it starts to feel high to me."I think I no longer believe in monsters as faces in the floor or feral infants or vampires or whatever. I think at seventeen now I believe the only real monsters might be the type of liar where there's simply no way to tell. The ones who give nothing away"- GuiltyLion

i think 40 feels good-ish to me; i was starting to think about whether trapping the fly by any means would be considered 'grasping' it in order to be able to keep trap of it for long enough for a bugzapper to be shipped and looking into how long that might take and if that would be considered grasping it other means of keeping track of a fly when i realized i should probably take a few small steps backi do not know for what this pebble is useful but it must be useful. for if it is useless, everything is useless. so are the stars! - gelsomina
