We're past RVS at this point so it's time I make some introductory comments. I'm looking forward to meeting each of you newer players! Contrary to what Duck said, I'm playing as I would be even if I didn't know these two. I tend to be an alienating player at times so please call me out if you feel this way during the game. I want to be as welcoming as possible.

I'm also going to be explaining my reasoning a bit more than usual for everyone's sake. I'm serious when I said U2's scum. His suggestion that I'm scum while voting someone else was awful, & I'm skeptical that he'd completely ignore my self-vote as town. I'd appreciate if all of you responded to this read with your thoughts.

I'd normally ignore the question in 29 & 44 but since it's a newbie game I'm going to answer: Me & Duck have been hyped about this game for weeks.

Why is the first thing awful? I'm new to the site and to forum mafia in general, so I'm probably going to show my ignorance here, but it seems like a normal example of the kind of goofiness characteristic of RVS.

I think the purpose of RVS isn't any different than the rest of the game -- finding scum -- so if you're scumreading someone you vote them, regardless however goofy you feel. The broader point is that it's anti-town to prolong RVS.

@Sho just a passing curiosity, if you're taking a more meta-lite approach to the game it doesn't really mean anything.

I'll be taking into account meta when reading you & U2 but I'm not going to treat you special. I hated when people did that when I was new so I'd rather avoid it if possible.

Why is self-voting a town tell for you?

I wouldn't self-vote as scum because I wouldn't want newbies to get the idea that self-voting is scummy or harmful. I self-voted specifically to show them that it's NAI & harmless. I've been making a big deal about this lately in other games & the mafia discussion forums.

If Shoshin is telling the truth here about strongly believing that self-voting is NAI and she is trying to push for this opinion, it makes a lot of sense that she would be less willing to do it as scum in a newb game since it would likely influence the opinions of newer players against her own position. As such, if this is the case, the two possibilities are that either Shoshin is town and that she is attempting to use her personal meta as a way of clearing herself, or she is mafia and she is willing to influence the opinion of newer players in a way that she believes to be detrimental to good play.

Both of these possibilities seem quite dirty (using personal meta to clear self vs encouraging a belief that she sees as harmful).

I think it's okay to consider the possibility that I'm scum as long as you keep your focus on what's probable over what's possible. I don't think using personal meta is "dirty" & I encourage everyone to use it. Why do you think it's "dirty"? What's your experience with mafia?

Identifying the difference isn't guaranteed.

Towns lose for all sorts of reasons.

The best townies consistently catch scum at a rate significantly above random & they do this because players are readable.

You'll also find that players who think nobody is readable tend to be bad players. Don't become one of those players.

Personally, I thought Godmid was playing exceptionally well for a new player. His lynch shouldn't have ever happened, & that's mainly on U2/TW since they're the experienced players here, no offense.

In general, everyone played well.

I wish I had been part of this game but I randomly got busy & overwhelmed with other games and life, and then got replaced just as I was starting to have more time again.
