  7. Do not use provable randomization in this game. Saying that you rolled a dice is fine, using dice tag is not.

Requesting and Using Mod-Given Information / Clarification

  1. You may ask for clarification or information about roles and mechanics on thread or via PM, case by case. However, all "hypothetical situation" questions must be asked via PM only.
  2. Please refrain from saying things like "mod said" unless necessary. Don't drag me into this game.
  3. When using the information I provided, do not quote it word-by-word. Paraphrase it. When in doubt, PM me first.
Voting:

  1. You can vote by either using bold tag([

    ]). However, try to use vote tag if possible. It's kinda hard for me to locate bold votes.

Try to check in at least once a day.
Besides the activity requirements listed in the moderator's original post, it's just necessary for a fun and healthy game that everyone
plays
. If you post very rarely, or only post a little bit at a time, you may get scumread for lurking. Even if you are not scumread for it, what's the fun in playing a game where multiple people are hardly participating?

Site Meta


Meta is the description of how people on Mafiascum like to play mafia. Things can be different on other online mafia sites, or if you play IRL, so it's good to know what's expected of you on this site. These aren't "rules", per se, but if you don't follow these guidelines it is likely things will go poorly for you on MS. Some examples are...

Random Voting Stage (RVS)

Games on MafiaScum almost always begin with what we call the Random Voting Stage (RVS). At this point in the game, we are in a low information game state (except the mafia, which know everyone’s alignment). As a way to provoke reaction, start a discussion, and try to determine alignment, people will usually vote for non-serious reasons. As the discussion progresses, we will eventually get the game moving and progress out of RVS.

Voting, E-x, and Hammers

E-x is a way to convey how far away a player is away from elimination. For example, you should always announce that you are putting someone at E-1 (1 vote away from an elimination) so that someone doesn’t come along and accidentally vote for that player's elimination. This also prevents Mafia-aligned players from coming along and placing the final vote to eliminate (“hammer”) and claiming ignorance about doing so. You may also see E-2 and E-3 (2 votes away from elimination and 3 votes away from elimination, respectively).

Before you hammer a player, state your intent to hammer (usually done in bold) and ask the player to claim their role. This is done to prevent power roles from being eliminated, and can sometimes get Mafia-aligned players to be caught (via counter claiming). It's best to then allow other players to react and discuss the claim before hammering.


Claiming Your Role

It is almost always best to not claim your role unless you are at E-1 and have been asked to claim as part of an “intent to hammer.” This is because, as a town power role (“PR”), if you out prematurely, you are likely to be night-killed (“NK’d”). As a Vanilla Townie (“VT”), claiming early helps the mafia team narrow down the setup and possible PR candidates. An exception to this would be if a mafia player claimed your role, claiming early to counter the false claim (“CC”) would out the mafia player, and would be a benefit to the town.

Do not fake claim a power role as town!
While it may help you avoid getting eliminated, you might cause a real PR to out themselves by counterclaiming - then the mafia will know who the PR is, and you will probably get eliminated for lying to town. Feel free to fake a claim as scum, though, if you think it would help.

ELo

ELo is the shortened representation of “Eliminate or Lose.” ELo in the Newbie Queue is when there are 3 remaining players, 2 of which are town and 1 is mafia; or when there are 5 remaining players, 3 of which are town and 2 are mafia. It is important in these situations that the town aligned players do not carelessly vote like is done during RVS or early days, as the mafia player(s) can organize and instantly provide the necessary votes to eliminate (“quickhammer”) and win the game.

Conclusion

Mafia is hard!
As town, it can be hard to figure things out, and stressful when people think you're scum.
That's okay!
Just share your thoughts on who you think is scum as they come to you, and don't be afraid to change your mind. As scum, it can be hard to lie convincingly, and stressful when people think you're scum. Don't let that scare you! Try to think of what you would post if you were town, and don't be afraid to "change your mind".

hello everyone! i have been working on a strategy so that we can narrow down the initial setup incredibly quickly, and while we're at it, clear a bunch of players and generally make it much harder for scum to beat us.

to execute this strategy, i'm going to ask:

If there is a Tracker, claim now.


once that tracker claims, protective,
be on that Tracker.
Tracker, post results.

if there's no tracker then we have a fairly normal day one.

Can't really say that Cook's play looks very good, though it also seems like a beginner scum mistake which doesn't work with her being SE so I'm not sure that's a scumtell exactly.
I'm inclined to distrust T3 as well since my last game with him showed how much of a hindrance he can be to town, but it's possible he may have learned a lesson (or at least I hope so)

Alright, full strategy, day by day:

Day One

Tracker claims Day One, protectives on the Tracker.
We tentatively clear that player as Town and focus on other people until then. If Masons claim to counter Tracker claim then we eliminate the Tracker. If a Mason doesn't die the night following then we eliminate both Mason claims (as they're scum) and that's game.
If no Tracker claims, we have a normal Day One but now we know we're not in A2, B1, or B3.


Night One

If Tracker has claimed then Doctor/Jailkeeper on the Tracker.
As long as Tracker does something we can then sort the setup the next day.
If no Tracker claims, then there must be a Cop, FN, or Masons.
No strategy or leashing there.

Day Two

Tracker
reports result. If they're roleblocked, then we know for certain we are in A2.
Cop
claims Day Two with result. Assuming nobody counterclaims it then we trust the Cop as an Innocent Child and their clear as a tentative IC or elim target.
If you got a Friendly Neighbor message N1, claim you received one but not who it is until either you or the FN are run up to E-1.
We need at least
two
people to get FN messages, so that scum can't work together to fabricate an FN claim. Also,
scum, keep in mind if you shoot someone in this claim space, that confirms everyone else in the ring as Town. Fakeclaiming you got the message won't help, either, as you'll get run up and get the FN confirmed.

One Mason
, claim Cop with a clear on the other Mason.

If we have a claimed tracker with a result and no claimed FN message then we know we're in B3. If we have a claimed tracker with no result we're in A2. If we have a claimed tracker with an FN message then we know we're in B1.

If we confirm we're in B3,
play Follow the Cop just like in Matrix6, since scum can't block the Tracker.


If we confirm we're in B1, then we
soft-clear the Tracker's result if it's "no visit", and soft-scum the Tracker's result if it is "visit".


If we confirm we're in A2, then we use the
Tracker as an Innocent Child
and solve the game.

Night Two

Cop

target someone. Depending on the setup different things might happen.

If Cop dies tonight then we know we're in C1 and we play the game mountainous with an IC (cop's result).
Scum, if you shoot the Cop then you just confirmed their result. Scum, if you shoot the result you just confirmed the Cop.


If Cop is blocked tonight then we know we're in A1 and treat the Cop like an IC.

Tracker is either blocked or stays alive. Guaranteed we can use them like a weaker Cop since they just got two free results. follow the tracker isn't any better than follow the cop

Masons if the clear is killed then claim Masons with them. Masons if the cop is killed then the clear claims Masons with them. If neither of you die, cop claim blocked (as you probably were) and we'll try to solve the game as if we're in A1, but reveal your true claim if the majority starts getting dicey.
No matter what we always have an advantage over scum if we're in a Mason setup, as they can't find nor "stop" masons (as roleblocker is useless and rolecop can't roll against them.

d2 we have an fn message. protect the message claim.
n2 another vt is killed. 2 prs, 2 vts, 2 scum, or 2 prs, 3 vts, 1 scum.
d3 fn is confirmed no matter who dies or whatnot. jailkeeper never claim here. we either win at this point, nail a scum (2 prs, 2 vts, 1 scum), or mislim a vt, which makes the math really easy.

B3

n2 ... this is the worst setup out of all of them for this strategy.

d2 we do the mason claim thingie. soft clears both of them.
n2 the cop claim might be shot because scum knows there's no protective.
d3 if a mason died the other one claims partners, IC leads the game and publishes a reads list and we PoE from there. math is trivial.

It's incredibly hopeful of you to expect all that to work out with you only telling us bits at a time (at least I assume that's how you planned to do it since fully explaining ruins it). Seems like something that works in theory but falls apart in practice, especially since it relies on everyone falling your lead before we've even had a chance to determine trust

if protectives are really good at crumbing stealthily then this setup does come down to math. there are good and bad setups, but in the end the goal is to publicize as much information as possible to limit scum fakeclaims and to ensure town can come in to the mid-to-late game with as much information as possible to then pulverize scum.

we can still do this. (expired on 2021-08-07 17:34:15) before i assume there's no tracker and we just get on with it.

Isn't that setup also really good for scum to take advantage of though? Only you know the strategy so if you were scum and PRs were gullible enough, you'd know both one of the PRs and what the other one you'll have to worry about is. All you have to do after that is make something up that sounds like it works.

Also if the goal is to publicize as much information as possible, why does your plan rely on keeping everyone but you in the dark? I don't quite understand the logic.

All that said, I have my doubts about how scummy you really are, we're *very* early day 1 and I like to reserve my judgement for when something really feels off to me, but you are starting off with the lowest townvibes this game
