I think I'll do a study on lynching people primarily "for information", too.

Psyche, how are you so positive that Zoidberg isn't scum?

Right now, he's appearing very scummy to me. And if/when he does flip, it happens to give town a load of info. We're not voting him for the info, it's just a bonus. We're voting him because he's scummy.

No one has presented any compelling justification for a zoidberg lynch besides "oh he said these things that only scum could confidently say".

But this would mean zoidberg has repeatedly forgotten that his faction has information that the town does not. What kind of fool do you take him for?

Zoidberg has identified for the town many instances of actually legitimately scummy behaviors, suggesting to me that he is not only town, but very protown. I'm still mildly surprised that the case on him is being taken seriously.

You guys are suggesting that zoidberg made a certain type of scumslip, was censured for it, and then made that exact same scumslip multiple times thereafter, being censured every time.

This is ridiculous, especially since no scumslip actually happened - what I see is you guys clearly mistaking overspeculative ideation for minority faction knowledge. If you want me to jump on your wagon, you have to explain why I should believe zoidberg's posts indicate evidence of the latter and not the former.

I'm trying to figure out exactly what Zoidberg has done to garner this turn of events as far as voting him goes... I'm going to ISO him to see what's the deal....

In post 324, Zed17 wrote:The whole roflcopter wagon is uninspired and bad, imo.
In post 327, Zoidberg wrote:Unless you're saying rofl reads town to you?
In post 329, Zed17 wrote:Not particularly, no.
Why point it out in the first place then? Surely you had some compelling reason to say so.
In post 330, TiphaineDeath wrote:Right, I think my logic was Zed's first post fails to comment on largest forming wagon and instead tries to start up a counter wagon on a traditionally easy player to lynch under questionable logic.
Is it a Scum tell to talk about other stuff aside from the main wagon? Would you argue that Metal Sonic is an easier player to lynch than Pope?
In post 328, Metal Sonic wrote:VOTE: varsoon

he claimed scum

this guy doesnt lie
In post 331, Metal Sonic wrote:but varsoon claimed scum and he is probably not lying
Okay, so...Varsoon says he's Scum and you totally believe him because he "doesn't lie"? So you're saying that he's Scum and you actually believe something that a Scum player is saying. Can you detect the flaw in this line of thought or should I draw you a diagram?
In post 333, TheIrishPope wrote:Guys
Seriously
Why would roflcopter be scum
Varsoon is scum
HE FUCKING SAID HE WAS SCUM
Your logical leap here makes no sense to me. You're saying that roflcopter isn't Scum because Varsoon is Scum? How are roflcopter and Varsoon related?
In post 346, TiphaineDeath wrote:zoid is still scum but don't use that as a false strike against him, it just gives him more ways to fight back.
Why worry about giving Zoidberg more ways to fight back? If he's Scum, we should be encouraging him to say as much as possible so we'll have more content to analyze.
In post 349, TiphaineDeath wrote:TSO might be scum but only if we are in multiball, and if so he's not scum with TIP.

Zoidberg/TSO/X

TIP/Zed/X
In post 375, TiphaineDeath wrote:I actually agree, would not be surprised if psyche is the third on Tip/Zed/X scumteam.
So now
you're
operating under the assumption that there's a three-man Scum team. Isn't that why you started suspecting Zoidberg in the first place?

I've seen folks say that if Zoidberg flips Scum, that will confirm the game as multiball. Well, he hasn't flipped yet. Either you're thinking of a three-person team because you already know that Zoidberg is telling the truth about that or you're just getting ahead of yourself. Which is it?
In post 362, Zoidberg wrote:Or if there's a vig, TIP would be a primo target. He's the player scum keeps around because he's fucking awful and has no chance of actually finding scum.
In post 383, Zoidberg wrote:I feel like TIP is just a newbie who's uncomfortable now that he's not in Road to Rome. Mostly I'm hoping someone vigs him, because his play has been atrocious but there are better lynches to be had IMHO.
So you're encouraging the theoretical Vig to kill a player who you believe to be Town? Wouldn't you rather have them shoot, y'know, Scum?
In post 365, Psyche wrote:It's only called "lying" if it is done in an active attempt to deceive an audience.
And what makes you so sure that this isn't what Pope is doing? Can you read his mind?
In post 370, T S O wrote:He's one of the leading wagons based really on inactivity and no prod is slowing us down.
The case on roflcopter isn't based on inactivity. The suspicion of him stems from his behavior, not his lack of behavior.

In post 388, T S O wrote:Psyche, is this a program in your mind or some sort of computer? I don't really know what you're on about here.
ooh i'm really excited about this so lemme explain

I currently have stored on my computer the archives of about 300 threads of mini normals. These are all in the process of being processed such that every post is associated with an alliance, a Day, and all the other stuff that posts normally get associated with (username, time, etc.). I am using a program to do this at a pretty fast pace (it takes like 1-2 minutes per thread, excluding the parts where I change thread or take breaks).

Once this is finished, I'll be able to use another program to collect statistics on these threads - how correlated a certain pattern of words, post length, Day, etc. is with a given alliance or player. Using these statistics, I will have a relatively more sound epistemic basis on which to vote and advocate the lynches of players.

Once this basic system is perfected, I'll study more advanced statistics and learn how to predict whole scumteams after inputting the first, say, 20 pages of the game.

***

Since it'll be a long time until I get all of this done, right now I'm merely going to process enough threads to perform an im promptu study on how saying things like "I'm scum" correlates with alliance and use the results to inform my read on Varsoons.

This is a lot like my accusations of flailing study that I did in 2012, except my flailing study was done manually (i scrolled through many threads, recording on a notes app who said flailing and about whom) and was much less ambitious.
NEEEEEEEEEERD!

In post 311, Desperado wrote:Why would it be bizarre?

Zoidberg was asking deliberately obtuse questions that he already knew the answer to, and Tiphaine chose to discredit TIP over engaging him. You would expect townies to just let these things go?

And for all of quote mining you're apparently doing, you aren't even reading any of it. I did vote for Varsoon (in fact, I voted him before everything you're referencing here), and cogent arguments =/= persuasive arguments.
It's bizarre because you're not following up on your convictions that the arguments themselves have merit. That makes me think that your purpose was more to praise TIP himself (and why would town do that? I don't have a reason)

Quote mining?
Those things I pasted were your posts in their entirety.
What content are you accusing me of subverting? And fine, you voted for Varsoon, but that was before you started seconding TIP's arguments.

Also, here's the thesaurus link for "cogent". (spoiler: it says that cogent arguments = persuasive arguments) http://thesaurus.com/browse/cogent

Hello, Mr. E Roll. You might think you're really smart and avoiding everyone's attention, but you're not fooling me. I see that recently, you've done a great job of rolling with a couple popular wagons.

I see you...

a) I'm not sure if he's town or not. I have him as pretty null.

b) He's the kind of player you don't want to end up in lylo with unless you're scum

c) vigging VIs like irish is actually good play for a vig

d) If a vig is in this game, and that vig has a better idea of who to shoot, then fine.

So how many times has roflcopter dodged the question now? 7?

Tiphaine and whoever else I was addressing: I'm not saying you have to lynch him if you'd rather lynch me. But how about you just join the wagon temporarily until rofl actually presents a case.

As the alien ship landed on Earth, it's occupant wondered if the new planet would be friendly or hostile.

Galaxoid smiled as he walked out into the atmosphere for the first time, gleaming at it's mountains and rivers.

It was then that someone walked in front of him and shot him in cold blood.

"TAKE THAT, ALIEN SCUM!" The murderer shouted at the corpse.

Apparently Earth was not friendly.
